News and Notes

Two-year-old colt Conquest Two Step (Two Step Salsa - Homesteader by Pioneering) was part of a fast pace in the fourth race at Churchill Downs and hung on to win the 5.5 furlong Maiden Special Weight by 2 lengths, becoming the first winner for Two Step Salsa. But, keep your eye on Ride On Curlin (Curlin - Magical Ride by Storm Cat), who was left at the break and closed with a purpose to finish second. Watch the Replay. True Blue Winner

All six ran on the fast track. Candy Kitty (Lemon Drop Kid - Worthy Cat by Tale of the Cat) was favored, but also getting a lot of play was Chase My Tail (Tale of the Cat - Celestial Star by Kissin Kris). She looked good in the paddock. Both halves of the entry, Aldara (Street Cry (IRE) - Lady Pegasus by Fusaichi Pegasus) and Palestrina (Medaglia d'Oro - Maiden Tower (GB) by Groom Dancer), were acting up a bit in the paddock. Predicate (Congrats - Pelicus Affair by Pentelicus) looked nice warming up. True Blue Nation (Bluegrass Cat - Truly Spectacular by Yes It's True) broke running and took the early lead. Chase My Tail was sent after her, with Aldara in third early. Predicate, who had settled off the pace, began to gain. True Blue Nation continued to lead, extending her advantage as they came out of the turn. She went on to post a 5 1/4-length win. Predicate lost second late to favorite Candy Kitty, who finished well. These were followed by Chase My Tail, Aldara, and Palestrina. Watch the Replay.

Showing Some Magic

Oliver Zip (City Zip - All of Her Twist by Forest Wildcat) was scratched, leaving 6 on the fast track. Favoritism jumped around a bit, finally settling on None Like Nolan (Malibu Moon - Green Lyons (IRE) by Green Desert). Jake's Magic Hat (Tiz Wonderful - Tico Breeze by Carson City) looked ready for action. Zalmon (Jump Start - Dyna Two by Dynaformer) is a very nice looking individual, but I thought 5 furlongs seemed way too short for him. Aslan (A.P. Indy - Satin Kiss by Seeking the Gold), the first runner from the last crop of A.P. Indy, was green in the post parade and got away slowly. Permanent Campaign (Sky Mesa - Trophy by Grand Slam) grabbed the early lead, but Solemnly Swear (Yes It's True - Sala de Oro by Expelled) soon joined him. Just off this pair was Jake's Magic Hat. These three were soon lengths in front of the others, who were led by None Like Nolan. As they moved into the turn, Jake's Magic Hat loomed on the outside. He was a bit green, but soon got his mind on business to post a 2 1/4-length win. On the scene late was None Like Nolan, who finished well for second. Pacesetters Solemnly Swear and Permanent Campaign had to settle for 3rd and 4th. Neither Zalmon nor Aslan did much running, completing the field in 5th and 6th, both should improve going farther.
