Gabriel Outfinishes the Queen

Pirita (Invincible Spirit (IRE) - Spinamix (GB) by Spinning World) was scratched, leaving 16 on the good to firm ground. Snow (Galileo (IRE) - Secrete Marina (IRE) by Mujadil was favored, but Calorie (Sea The Stars (IRE) - Sugar Free (IRE) by Oasis Dream (GB)) was given a good chance as well. Patty Paige (Haatef - Big Swifty (IRE) by Intikhab) was acting up before the load. Lisnagirl (Alhaarth (IRE) - Global Tour by Tour d'Or) was unsettled at the break, and soon lost her rider. Fly to The Moon (Holy Roman Emperor (IRE) - Royal Ballerina (IRE) by Sadler's Wells) and Patty Paige were off well, but Calorie went by to set the pace. She was chased by Muileata (Diamond Green (FR) - Buiochas Mor by Mr. Greeley) and Ballybacka Queen (Hurricane Run (IRE) - Zankara (IRE) by Linamix (FR)). Also close up was In The Kab (Intikhab - Kallithea (IRE) by Dr Fong). Calorie continued to lead them. Ballybacka Queen made a move to draw even, and Avenue Gabriel (Champs Elysees (GB) - Vas Y Carla by Gone West) was gaining on the outside. These two went by Calorie, who had no answer. Avenue Gabriel and Ballybacka Queen battled to the finish, with Avenue Gabriel getting the victory by a neck. Calorie was no match for the top pair, but she was secure in third, the first placer for her sire, Sea The Stars. Avenue Gabriel is the first winner for freshman sire Champs Elysees. Making a Sensation

All eight ran, including the entry of Aledo Bling (Too Much Bling - Trinity Bluffs by Gilded Time) and Slewie's Bling (Too Much Bling - With a Splash by Baron O'Dublin). The track was fast. Yes It's a Fact (Yes It's True - Genesis Effect by I'm a Lyre) was the heavy favorite, and Unbridled Retreat (Dunkirk - Dancin Up a Storm by Stormin Fever) was 4-1. He was full of pep as they headed to the track. Several horses were looking a little wild in the post parade, including Slewie's Bling and Mac Witt (Penitent Man - Soda Queen by Vicar). Louies Flower (Flower Alley - Tembisa by Johannesburg) was reluctant to load, and Yes It's a Fact balked a bit. He was off slowly, as was Slewie's Bling. Louies Flower went to the lead. H an F's Sensation (Unbridledsensation - True Babu by River Keen (IRE)) was his closest pursuer. Unbridled Retreat was in third early, but then began to retreat. Mac Witt came on to join the top two, and Yes It's a Fact recovered from his poor start, and moved up on the rail. Louies Flower continued to lead as they entered the stretch. The only competition left came from H an F's Sensation and Yes It's a Fact. H an F's Sensation was reluctant to change leads, but he put it together late, overtaking Louies Flower for a neck win. Yes It's a Fact had to settle for third after steading late. Unbridled Retreat came home in 6th. There was a steward's inquiry into the stretch run, as well as claims of foul by the rider of Yes It's a Fact against both H an F's Sensation and Louies Flower, but the results stood.
