Commissioner Gets Souper Lucky

Aslan (A.P. Indy - Satin Kiss by Seeking the Gold) and Bold Visionary (Rockport Harbor - Freshwater Pearl (IRE) by Alzao) were scratched, and the track was fast. Commissioner (A.P. Indy - Flaming Heart by Touch Gold) was favored, but Souper Lucky (Giant's Causeway - Slewfoundmoney by Seeking the Gold) also took some play. They both looked good in the prelims. The start was good. Flying Joe (Sightseeing - American Flier by Quiet American) and Tall Boy (Tale of the Cat - Quiet Now by Tiznow) went for the lead. Souper Lucky was off the rail in third, followed by the trio of Commissioner, Lieutenant Seany O (Bluegrass Cat - Lady Lightning by Birdstone), and Gaining Ground (Saint Anddan - Fair Lee Quiet by Real Quiet). Flying Joe continued to show the way, chased by Tall Boy. They weren't going overly fast, :23.48 for the quarter, :47.65 for the half, and 1:12.81 for 6 furlongs. Tall Boy pulled even with Flying Joe, as Souper Lucky also moved closer. As they went into the turn, Souper Lucky took a short lead. Commissioner came out of the pack to make a run at him. Commissioner got to the front, but Souper Lucky did not go quietly. The two finished together, with Commissioner just getting his head in front for the victory. It was more than 22 lengths back to Gaining Ground, who did gain some ground late, in third. He was followed by Lieutenant Seany O, Flying Boy, and Tall Boy. Watch the Replay. Commissioner is the first winner from A.P. Indy's final crop.

Miss Narcissist Draws in and Draws Off

Cryptic Comet (Greeley's Galaxy - High Falutin Gal (IRE) by Silver Deputy) was scratched, allowing AE entrant Miss Narcissist (Freud - Mighty Good by Good and Tough) to run. The other AE entrant, Longride to Wisdom (Harlan's Holiday - Clever Idea by Matchlite), was left on the sidelines. Sleek (Bernadini - Satin Smooth by Giant's Causeway) was favored, and Molly Jordan (Pioneerof the Nile - Charleston Springs by Capote) was 23-1. Lady Rhubarb (Wild Desert - Ravishly by Gold Case) acted up in the gate, and brushed with Talk to Me (A. P. Warrior - Deer Berry by Deerhound) at the start. Also making contact at the start were Sleek and Molly Jordan, who broke inward. These two fillies were at the back early. There was a scramble for the early lead. Miss Narcissist emerged with it, and quickly streaked away from the others. Lady Rhubard, Talk to Me, and Canal Six (Noble Causeway - Prom Dancer by Touch Gold) were the closest pursuers. Miss Narcissist continued on top, extending her lead to better than 6 lengths. Selenite (Cosmonaut - Offhand Remark by Western Expression) and Canal Six broke out of the pack to take after Miss Narcissist. They reduced the margin, but Miss Narcissist had too much of a headstart. She crossed the line 2 1/2 lengths in front. Canal Six took second by the same margin over Selenite. It was more 7 lengths back to On a Snowy Evening (Frost Giant - Rhubarb Red by Carson City) in fourth. She was followed by Talk to Me, Lady Rhubarb, Sleek and Molly Jordan. Watch the Replay.

Rivers Run by Kristo

All nine ran on the Polytrack. Kristo (Distorted Humor - Capote's Crown by Capote) was the 3-5 talk of the town. Quick and Silver (Dunkirk - Royal Confection by Candi's Gold), who was adding blinkers, was 7-1. He had some bounce in the paddock, and looked good on the track. Melatonin (Kodiak Kowboy - Yanquee Reign by Yankee Victor) was a little on edge. I thought Papa Turf (Yes It's True - Wadena by Saint Ballado) was a little interesting. Toowindytohaulrox (Harlan's Holiday - Im Classic Quality by Elusive Quality) was a litle reluctant to load, going in sans jockey. Papa Turf outbroke the others, but Quick and Silver, who was off a step slow, came up the rail to join Papa Turf. These two battled, followed by Melatonin and Kristo. Quick and Silver ran out of steam as they went into the turn. Papa Turf was still involved, as well as Melatonin and Kristo. Also getting closer was Rivers Run Deep (Ready's Image - Music Miss by Prospector's Music). Kristo hit the front, but was having trouble keeping a straight path. Rivers Run Deep had no such troubles, as he rolled on by the favorite, and went on to post a 1 1/4-length win. Kristo was safe in second, followed by Melatonin, Papa's Paisley (Pomeroy - Clever Me by Not For Love), Papa Turf, Toowindytohaulrox, Roundupthelute (Midnight Lute - In Secure by A. P. Indy), Quick and Silver, and Muck N Grind (City Zip - Izzy Kate by The Cliff's Edge). Watch the Replay.
