A Glowing Win

The turf was good to firm. Babyfact (Piccolo (GB) - Pennyspider (IRE) by Redback (GB)) and Whispering Star (War Front - Eclisse (FR) by Ski Chief) were scratched. An Chulainn (Tamayuz (GB) - Livius Lady (IRE) by Titus Livius (FR)) was favored, and Placidia (Sea The Stars (IRE) - Palmeraie by Lear Fan) was 10-1. She made a good pre-race appearance, and Asyad (New Approach (IRE) - Elle Danzig (GER) by Roi Danzig) caught my eye. Petale Noir (Mount Nelson (GB) - Apple Blossom (IRE) by Danehill Dancer (IRE)) acted up a bit before the race, and was away slowly. An Chulainn went to the front. Spirited Silver (Proclamation (IRE) - Real Emotion by El Prado (IRE)) was chasing, and Placidia was close up in third on the rail. An Chulainn continued to lead, with Placidia sticking close. Lustrous (Champs Elysees (GB) - Tamzin ( GB) by Hernando (FR)) came up the rail to join the fun. Spirited Silver couldn't keep up. An Chulainn lasted longer, but then she dropped back as well. Placidia chased Lustrous home, but the latter filly could not be caught, winning by 2 lengths. It was a nice effort from Placidia, who was a length better than An Chulainn. Asyad started slowly, and was green, but finished well to claim fourth. Lustrous is the 5th winner for freshman sire Champs Elysees.

Blazing a Gold Trail

Mount Logan (New Approach (IRE) - Vistaria by Distant View) and Yaakooum (Cape Cross (IRE) - Anna's Rock (IRE) by Rock of Gibraltar (IRE)) were scratched, and the ground was good to firm. Snow Sky (Nayef - Winter Silence (GB) by Dansili (GB)) was the heavy favorite, and looked nice in the prelims. Asteroidea (Sea The Stars (IRE) - Speciosa (IRE) by Danehill Dancer (IRE)) was not given much of a chance at 50-1. Longshot Sea Monkey (Sakhee - Northern Bows (GB) by Bertolini) was reluctant to load. Snow Sky broke running, but Caridadi (Invincible Spirit (IRE) - Charity Belle by Empire Maker) was right with him. Also near the front was Tahadee (Teofilo (IRE) - Queen of Lyons by Dubai Destination). Asteroidea was at the back early. Gold Trail (Teofilo (IRE) - Goldthroat (IRE) by Zafonic) and Tahadee (Teofilo (IRE) - Queen of Lyons by Dubai Destination) challenged in the stretch. Also coming on was Rangi Chase (Lawman (FR) - Tirunesh by More Than Ready). Caridadi couldn't keep up. Snow Sky stayed involved for awhile, but his jockey was working hard. Gold Trail finished best, getting the victory by 3/4 lengths. Tahedee held second by the same margin over Rangi Chase, who nipped favorite Snow Sky for third. Asteroidea didn't do much running, defeating 2 to finish 10th.

I will be rooting for James T to be beamed up from Maiden in his Enterprise to become a Winner.

(Couldn't find any Star Trek reference to connect with the other horses in the race -- except, wasn't there an episode dealing with an "Omega"?  I'm gonna hafta look it up)

I AM a Trekkie.

"The Omega Glory" - Season 2 (the captain of the Exeter ignores the Prime Directive and is helping the Komms fight the barbarian-type Yangs -- and then it turns out that the Yangs venerate a bastardized version of your Declaration of Independence.

Remember, it was in 1968.
