A Compendium of Winning

The track was fast, and there were no scratches. Rage Riot (For Glory - Sneaky Quick by Hennessy) was favored. James T. (Dunkirk - Sephora by Newfoundland) was 34-1. I was liking Alpha and Omega (Omega Code - Holy Belle by Holy Bull) a bit, but favorite Rage Riot had some spring in his step. Spotinthedistance (Mr. Nightlinger - Timely Reflection by Yankee Victor) was a little reluctant to load, and James T. planted his feet, but was persuaded to enter the gate. Ithinkicandoit (Bandini - Shu Biz Annie by Jaklin Klugman) backed off once, twice, and then the jockey slipped off. He loaded quickly without the rider. Compendium (Evansville Slew - Flame Stitch by Saint Ballado) sprinted to the lead. Countless Offer (C'Mon Tiger - Laurentide Ice by Intidab), Daring Artax (Artax - Daring Icon by Magna), and Rage Riot were in pursuit. James T. was a little slow to start. Alpha and Omega started making up some ground, but Compendium continued to lead. Alpha and Omega took a run at him as they came out of the turn. He seemed as though he would overtake the front-runner. Alpha and Omega drifted out in the stretch, however, allowing Compedium to get the victory by 1 1/4 lengths. It was 2 1/2 lengths back to Save the Gold (Save Big Money - Sunny and Gold by Strike the Gold) and Track Warrior (Borrego - Cherokee Made by Cherokee Run) in 3rd and 4th. James T. didn't do much running, finishing 12th (last). Watch the Replay.
