Passing the Grade has a Divine Heart for Raspberry Delight

As we move into 2014, we soon will be determining which Freshman Sires to follow this year. As usual, we will decide this through a poll. The stallions included in the poll, will also be determined by you, so please indicate your suggestions in the comments of the blog. You may also want to include why you think a stallion is a good pick, to try to get other folks to support your choice. Any first-year stallion is eligible for inclusion in the poll, although I would encourage readers to concentrate on North American-based stallions, as they are easier for me to follow more completely. To find stallions whose first crop race in 2014, go to the Stallion Register Online, and under "Stallion Search" enter "2011" in Year Entered Stud. Prominent names include Blame, Eskendereya, Lookin At Lucky, and Quality Road. I will collect the suggestions, and we will vote on them before the end of the month.

I am not going to update all the results missed when I was out on vacation, but I did want to note that E Equalsmcsquare (Einstein (BRZ) - Prairie Spring by Conquistador Cielo) finished 2nd, just a neck behind winner Senza Fina (City Zip - Ragtime Doll by Smarten) in Race 6 at Santa Anita on January 2, a 6.5 furlong Starter Optional Claiming Race. E Equalsmcsquare had the lead before being nipped late. Watch the Replay.

befitting my screen name, I must nominate Plan & Geste

my unbiased choices would be Jonesboro & Malibu Moonshine, while not superstars, both were durable, raced well past the age most 'stars' are sent to stud, and were honest as the day is long, which is what should be supported in the breeding business, IMHO, not two and three year olds who only make a small handful of starts with a GI or 2, and then charge tens of thousands of $ for the right to create more flashes in the pan who get hurt before most people learn how to spell their names

OT, I miss the link to your blogs being easily seen and accessible on the new BH.com front page layout :(

I would suggest Blame, as the only horse to ever beat Zenyatta.  Looking at Lucky was a classic winner and off the board only twice in 13 starts.  Also, SuperSaver for his Ky Derby win.  Here's where it gets interesting.  I would like to follow the offspring of Belmont winner , Summer Bird.  I know he was standing in Japan when he died, but he stood his first crop in the US.  Who can forget the story of the 2 "Birds" in 2009.

He had very limited opportunity for his first crop in NY but Marsh Side was Gone West's top winning son and I look for his foals to replicate his record. Maybe later rather than this year but...

Other than the usual biggies:  Marsh Side, Musket Man, Not Bourbon and Big Bad  Bob .

I would also like to see what happens to Hold Me Back, Quality Road, Smooth Air, Jonesboro and Youmzain.  (I typed some of these names several times, thanks to autocorrect!)

I'm more for the working persons' horse too -- same as Gulchfan.
