Euphrosyne is Queen

The race was taken off the turf, and run at a mile and 70 yards on the fast main track. Oh Wise One (filly; Dunkirk - Wise Ending by End Sweep), and Nighttiming (Pioneerof the Nile - Razzi Cat by Storm Cat) were scratched with the change of surface, but Jazzy Genius (Einstein (BRZ) - Jazzy Dancer by Dixie Union) stayed in. Also scratched were Attainment (Broken Vow - Sweet Science by Diesis (GB)), In My Time (Scat Daddy - Irish Starlet by Irish River (FR)), Cautiouslyoptimstc (Tiznow - Secret Thyme by Storm Cat), And You Can (Istan - El Fasto by El Prado (IRE)), Sugar Pie (Candy Ride (ARG) - Mumbo Jumbo by Kingmambo), and American Beauty (U S Ranger - Majestic Beauty by Diesis (GB)). MTOs Mary Rita (Distorted Humor - Possibility by A.P. Indy), Light Striker (Afleet Alex - Lacie Girl by Editor's Note), and Curlins Queen (Curlin - Catbaby by A.P. Indy) got to run. Euphrosyne (Harlan's Holiday - Three Graces by Doneraile Court) was favored, and Jazzy Genius was 98-1, but she had a little pep in the post parade. Curlins Queen looked good on the track. Euphrosyne was the first out of the gate, and she went on to lead them. She was chased by Radiant (Sky Mesa - Luster by Touch Gold), Warrior Elite (Majestic Warrior - Adalgisa by Spinning World), and Mary Rita. Euphrosyne continued on an easy lead, as Radiant moved closer. Mary Rita was still involved, but Warrior Elite began to lose ground. Gaining some was Curlins Queen. As the entered the stretch, Euphrosyne pulled away. She went on to post a 6 3/4-length win. It was tight for the minor awards, with Curlins Queen taking second by a nose over Radiant, who was a nose better than Mary Rita. It was some 16 lengths back to the others, who were led by Jazzy Genius in 5th. She was followed by Light Striker, Warrior Elite, and Madewell (Horse Greeley - Sister Sporty by Evening Kris). Watch the Replay.

A Home Run

Brimstoned (Unusual Heat - Diversified by Broken Vow) was scratched, as well as AE entrant Cowtownmary (Cowtown Cat - Post Marked by Stop the Music). AE entrant Cronut (Broken Vow - Arjunand by Diesis (GB)) drew into the race. The grass was firm, and Melatonin (Kodiak Kowboy - Yanquee Reign by Yankee Victor) was the lukewarm favorite. Relative Time (Einstein (BRZ) - Lila Hope by Sharp Victor) was 8-1. Home Run Kitten (Kitten's Joy - Grand Slam Girl by Grand Slam) was showing some spunk, and Distillery (Dixie Union - Strawberry Sense by A.P. Indy) looked good. Relative Time made a favorable impression. Arctic Code (Desert Code - Artica by Frosty the Snowman) got a late equipment adjustment. The start was decent. Arctic Code and Footstepsinbronze (Footstepsinthesand (GB) - La Sibilla (GB) by Fantastic Light) led the way. Relative Time was among those showing early speed, along with Home Run Kitten and Wicked Heat (Unusual Heat - Miss Boomtown by Smart Strike). As they crossed over the dirt, Home Run Kitten came through on the inside to take the lead. Footstepsinbronze set after him, and closing stoutly was Melatonin. But Home Run Kitten continued to hold off Footstepsinbrownze, registering a 1/2-length win. Two and a quarter lengths behind Footstepsinbronze came Melatonin in third. Friendswith K Mill (Flashy Bull - Tight Lipped by Kissin Kris) checked in in fourth, followed by Arctic Code and Distillery. Relative Time tired to 11th after being involved for much of the race. Watch the Replay.

Paganol Shows the Right Strategy

There were no scratches, and the track was good. Flat Irish (Flatter - Irish Connection by Mr. Greeley) was favored, and Denali South Peak (Colonel John - Serena's Sister by Rahy) was 53-1. Peace Offering (Giant's Causeway - Light of Dubai by Gone West) caught my eye early. Denali South Peak looked decent, and Brewing (Maimonides - Fifty Mil Short by Johannesburg) looked ready. Discipline (Sky Mesa - Spread by Coronado's Quest) looked better and better as they warmed up. Sollozzo (J Be K - Miss Beekman Place by Yes It's True) broke on top, but Brewing and Denali South Peak were also showing speed. It was Brewing that took the early lead. Denali South Peak chased after the pacesetter, with Discipline coming up to join him. Brewing continued to lead them. Discipline took over second, as Denali South Peak began to lose ground. Gaining on the outside was Paganol (Tiz Wonderful - Glittering Tax by Artax). Also started to come on was Street Strategy (Street Sense - Spoken Softly by Notebook). Brewing still held the lead as they entered the stretch, but he was having trouble keeping a straight course. Paganol and Street Strategy moved by him as a team, and finished that way. It took a photo to reveal that Paganol was the winner by a nose. Long Station (Smoke Glacken - Westline by Gone West) came on to get third, and Brewing finished fourth. However, he was disqualified and placed 6th. So, the official fourth-place finisher was Late Night Lu (Midnight Lute - Luhoo by Luhuk). Denali South Peak was basically eased late. Hopefully, he'll be able to carry his speed farther next time. Watch the Replay.
