The 2014 Stallions Are...

The 2014 Stallion Poll has been closed, and the winners are: Blame, Eskendereya, Lookin At Lucky, Quality Road, and Summer Bird. Thanks everyone for voting. Lookin At Lucky has the most registered 2-year-olds with 173 (including Southern Hemisphere offspring), followed by Quality Road with 113, Eskendereya with 106, Summer Bird with 95, and Blame with 77. The current named 2-year-olds are listed on their stallion pages. Many have not been named yet, and I will update the lists about once a week. These stallions will be the focus of the blog, and will help determine which races are previewed. As usual, however, I will give detailed information about each entry in the race, not just those by this year's stallions. I will also note works by our 2-year-olds, especially first works or new works by horses not mentioned previously in the blog. If your favorites did not make the list, I would encourage you to follow them on your own, and post updates in the comment section.

Until the 2-year-olds, start running, I will continue to preview Maiden Special Weight Races featuring 3-year-olds by the 2013 stallions (Colonel John, Dunkirk, Einstein, Pioneerof the Nile, and Sea The Stars).

Mambo At the Gym (Bernstein - Mambo Queen by Kingmambo), Into the Forest (Tapit - Lady Lumberjack by Forestry), Rare (Fusaichi Pegasus - Xylophone by Dehere), Follow Your Soul (Perfect Soul (IRE) - Follow by Seeking the Gold), Oration (Spring At Last - Miz Betty Grace by Matty G) and Knight of Valor (Candy Ride (ARG) - Joustabout by Apalachee) were scratched. Hertzalot (Smart Strike - Megahertz (GB) by Pivotal (GB)) was made the favorite of the remaining 8. Two Jacks Wild (Colonel John - Waltzing With Deb by Robyn Dancer) was 9-2. The start was decent, although Captain's Game (Officer - Lady Libby by Sea Salute) broke outward. I Will (Yes It's True - Chacana by Forest Camp) went to the front, with Hertzalot after him. English Deputy (English Channel - Spanked by Deputy Minister) was next, followed by Two Jacks Wild. These four separated from the rest of them. Hertzalot moved even with I Will, with English Deputy just off of them. Two Jacks Wild had a great spot on the rail behind these. Captain's Game was the best of the rest at this point. Hertzalot put his head in front as they entered the turn. English Deputy began to retreat, and Two Jacks Wild was switched to the outside for his run. As the entered the stretch, Two Jacks Wild moved on by. He rolled home for a 3 1/2-length win. It was close for second, with I Will getting the the nod. It was 8 lengths back to One Touch (Macho Uno - Zarrin by Maria's Mon) in fourth, followed by Atlantic Spring (Stormy Atlantic - Spring Season by Seeking the Gold), English Deputy, D W's Warrior (Majestic Warrior - Peig Sayers by Fusaichi Pegasus), and Captain's Game. Bern' James Bern sprinted away from the field, building up a several length advantage. Teniente Coronel led the rest, running far off the rail, He was followed by Giacullure. Teniente Coronel moved closer to Bern' James Bern while maintaining a wide path. He wore down the pacesetter in the stretch, and pulled away for a 2 1/4-length win, despite continually trying to drift out. Bern' James Bern kept second. It was a long way back to the rest, led by Just the Tap, who finished well, a weakened Giacullure, Royal Guardian (More Than Ready - Ruby's Prize by Elusive Quality), Fort Reps, and Dewey Lake (Fort Prado - Itsagimme by Hennessy). Tapiteao Lets it Go

The track was good, and all eight ran. Tapiteao (Tapit - Black Tea by Orientate) was the heavy favorite, and Grace of the Nile (Pioneerof the Nile - Grace Happens by Aptitude) was 3-1. Cha Cha Ridge (Sky Mesa - Reduced Sentence by Broad Brush) reared in the gate before the start. The break was good. Fancy Ticket (Even the Score - Deputy G. G. by Silver Deputy) and Country Woman (Street Cry (IRE) - Summer Colony by Summer Squall) battled early, with Fancy Ticket displaying some rankness. They were followed by the trio of Cha Cha Ridge, Fredette (Teuflesberg - Golden Tour by Lac Ouimet), and Cowgirl in Love (Cowboy Cal - Rich in Love by Seattle Slew). But, the field was pretty well-bunched and it continued to get even closer together as the race progressed. Grace of the Nile was having some traffic issues. Fredette put her head in front, but Country Woman came through on the inside to take the lead. Storming home on the outside was Tapiteao, and she went by them all for a 1 3/4-length win. Country Woman took second over Grace of the Nile, who finished well. She was followed by Fredette, Cowgirl in Love, Cha Cha Ridge, Piper Jade (Harlan's Holiday - County Fair by Mr. Prospector), and Fancy Ticket. Watch the Replay.
