Zapped at the Finish

The race was taken off of the turf, and run at a mile and 70 yards on the fast main track. However, Lukie Joe (With Distinction - Southern Fourty by Sweetsouthernsaint) was the only scratch. Hot Zapper (Ghostzapper - Hot Talent by Alphabet Soup) was favored by just a tick over Lori's Darling (Yankee Gentleman - Gentilly Sunrise by Imperial Falcon). Hail to the Nile (Pioneerof the Nile - Takeaway by Fly So Free) was 11-1, but he looked good in the post parade. Blue Forty Two (Forefathers - Blue Guru by El Prado (IRE)) and Foreinfinity (Forefathers - Dontstealmythunder by Thunder Gulch) were the first to show, while Drewssasin (Freud - Woodman's Prize by Prized) was away slowly. Hail to the Nile was on the outside, and a little rank. Blue Forty Two set the pace, chased by Foreinfinity and David's Honor (Decibel - Ms. Mx Two Honor by Glorious Bid). Next were were Hail to the Nile and Pummill (Art Museum - Intractabie by Sandpit (BRZ)). Foreinfinity and Blue Forty Two continued to battle up front. Hail to the Nile was still right there, and Hot Zapper was beginning to move up. Hail to the Nile joined the leaders on the outside, as they entered the stretch. But Hot Zapper was motoring on the outside, and he went on by, despite running on the wrong lead. It wasn't the prettiest victory, but he was 5 3/4 lengths in front at the wire. Hail to the Nile outfinished Blue Forty Two for second, with Lori's Darling back in fourth. Razorback Blend (Invasor (ARG) - Double Blend by Double Honor) was eased at the wire, but walked off of the track. Interesting that the top three were coming out of the same race. Watch the Replay.

Twenty Three To Be

There were no scratches, and the track was fast. Four-year-old Twenty Three Darby (Elusive Quality - Debbie's Assault by Belong to Me) was favored. Emma Lushka (Pioneerof the Nile - Legendary Stacey by Include) was 31-1, but she made a favorable impression on the track. The start was good, although Emma Lushka was shuffled back to trail. There was a bit of a scramble for the early lead, Costamar (Tiznow - Distant Roar by Storm Cat), Concert Pianist (Any Given Saturday - Glorificamus (IRE) by Shinko Forest (IRE)), Twenty Three Darby, and Bluegrass Gin (Bluegrass Cat - Gins Majesty by Go for Gin) were all involved. Emma Lushka was a good 4 lengths behind the rest of the field. Costamar went on to set the pace, pressed by Twenty Three Darby. Carnival Kid (Broken Vow - Majority Whip by Gulch) took advantage of her rail spot to move closer, with Concert Pianist and Not My Tap (Tapit - Stake by Boundary) staying in touch. Twenty Three Darby got by Costamar in the stretch. Carnival Kid was finishing strong, and Emma Lushka was out of last and gaining on the front runners. Twenty Three Darby continued to hold off Carnival Kid to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Carnival Kid was secure in second, three lengths in front of the others. Probably moving best late was Emma Lushka, who grabbed third. Costamar tired to fourth, followed by Bluegrass Gin, Not Be Forgotten (Tale of the Cat - Forgotten Secret by Secret Slew), Not My Tap, and Concert Pianist. Watch the Replay.

Hartford As Advertised

The track was fast. Pacific Image (Mr. Sekiguchi - Dixie Image by Halo's Image) and Mo's the Man (Quiet American - My Belonging by Belong to Me) were scratched, leaving 6 to run. Hartford (Tapit - Tempting Note by Editor's Note) was the overwhelming favorite. All That Brass (Colonel John - Grecourt Gates by Dixie Union), who was debuting in blinkers, was 15-1. Borseggiatore (Hard Spun - Streetwiseandtough by Street Cry (IRE)) was a bit on edge in the prelims. H Town Brown (Big Brown - Elbow by Woodman) looked good warming up. Slip By (Curlin - Fortune Pending by Fortunate Prospect) came out of the gate slowly, and was at the back. Borseggiatore and H Town Brown went to the front. The next three were All That Brass, Hartford, and Againsome (Awesome Again - Orate by A. P. Indy). H Town Brown left Borseggiatore to set the pace. He was soon joined by Hartford and Againsome. Borseggiatore and Hartford were together going into the turn. Hartford took a short lead, and H Town Brown moved into second to mount a challenge. But, Hartford began to pull away, running easily, he crossed the line 5 3/4 lengths in front. H Town Brown was safe in second, and Borseggiatore held third. They were followed by Slip By, Againsome, and All That Brass. Watch the Replay.
