Pacificator Drops In

Sea of Enquiry ran off in the post parade, but his jockey stayed on and he stayed in the race. Pacificator broke well and went up with the leaders. Then, he backed off a bit and let Do Drop In and Sea of Enquiry fight it out. Do Drop In put away Sea of Enquiry, but Pacificator was coming.  It was close at the end, they studied the photo for so long that I thought it would be declared a deadheat. But, turns out it was Pacificator by the smallest of margins.

A Breakaway for Water Edison

In Speight of It did not get in off the AE list, so it was up to Audible to represent Maiden Watch. However, this one was pretty much over at the break as Break Water Edison went right to the lead and didn't look back. In the end, he was victorious by more than 4. Precursor came wide to secure 2nd, while Western Legend, who was ignored at the windows, closed well for 3rd. One that caught my eye was D C Tapit who looked impressive in the post parade and got involved late to finish 4th. Audible lingered at the back of the pack and hopefully learned something about racing.

A Good Day for Gooday

Sugaree Gold was off a step slow, but was soon up with the leading pack of Goodday, Track Majesty, Sorry Baby, and Brewha Baby. Goodday soon emerged from that pack to take a clear lead, while Track Majesty and Sugaree Gold tired. Kalapana was closing at the end, but Goodday was long gone. Goodday established a new track record on the Del Mar Polytrack for 5.5 furlongs, but I'm not sure how impressive that is.  Del Mar track records have been falling all over the place since they have significantly quickened the track this year.

Light Green Goes Softly; Tiger is Lawless

Softly Spoken Overtakes Light Green

To the surprise of many (including Tom Durkin who called her by her stablemate's name first call), Light Green went right to the lead. She was soon headed by the experienced one, Softly Spoken. But, Light Green refused to give in and fought on gamely to come up just a head short. She may have been aided a bit by Softly Spoken who bore in slightly, as if she was trying to bite Light Green. Tiger Shark went right to the lead, pursued by Mr Missile, Silent Count, and Premo's Success. But, Tiger Shark was too much for the gang and drew off. Pattie is the Singing Heir

It was starting to get a little scary, as Singing Rose (Congaree), Heir to the Stone (Birdstone), and Passum Pattie (Peace Rules) rolled off three straight wins for Maiden Watch. Reality returned with thirds for Texas Birdstone (Birdstone) and King Congo (Congaree), but overall it was a good day for our first-year stallions. Only one entry for July 11, Audible (Congaree) who is a main track only runner at Belmont. Anyone know how to do a rain dance?

Rose Sings over Karma

Naturally Bold went to the lead in this one, closely followed by Singing Rose who finally ran the leader down in the stretch. She then had to hold off the oncoming C Karma who came wide. Singing Rose dug in and prevailed, scoring a well-earned victory to become the 4th winner for Congaree.

Texas Stone Can't Catch Danger

Texas Birdstone was bumped on both sides at the start, but was not discouraged and made his way up to the middle of the pack. Meanwhile, up front, Tres Dangereux was having things his own way, while Nun Like Me applied token pressure. Texas Birdstone went way wide on the turn, but put in a bid and I began to believe that the Maiden Watch winning ways would continue. But, Texas Birdstone tired a bit and could not sustain his bid, as Mercury Express closed well to take 2nd. Still, a promising debut for Texas Birdstone who overcame trouble and beat 9 horses.
