All I have to say is watch out Curlin, Curly is on the rise!
Busy day on Saturday May 31, as 4 horses are entered. First, Birdcaper makes his debut. Then, we find out if the third start is the charm for Curly. Finally, Renda and Aerin She Lovely square off as they both make their first starts.
Results for Rachel Alexandra and Halo Beauty. Plus workouts by Curly and 2-year olds.
Trifecta King's results, a winner for Speightstown, Pleasantly Perfect's first starter, plus works from 2-year olds and Curly.
What are you going to do after the Derby's over? Here is the perfect solution, cheer Curly on as he makes his second start.
Go Smarty Go (colt; Smarty Jones - Sarah's World by Holy Bull) worked 3 furlongs in :37.44 at Belmont Park.
Curly was devoid of early speed, spending the early part of the race hanging out in the back of pack (strangely enough with Curly Cameli). But, he did make a nice middle move, passing a few before tiring.
The long-awaited debut of Curly occurs this Saturday at Oaklawn Park. Regular readers will recall that Curly is just 2 letters away from being horse of the year. That alone was enough to endear him to our hearts.
The first notice of a Speightstown 2-year old working out was received as Pick's Express (Speightstown - Program Pick by Peterhof) went 2 furlongs in 26:00 on 3/21/08 at New Episode Training Center.
First-timer Acoma was off a little slowly and lingered at the back, before making a nice run in the stretch. A number of the Empire Makers seem to be slow starters and this one should definitely improve next time.
First-Timer Certifiably Royal showed brief speed before fading to last. The other first time starter, Fuencia, ran 6th the whole way round. Wesley and Posse Cat (who went off at odds of 115-1) dueled through the stretch, but Ready's Echo outfinished them both. However, I think this is the last time you will get 115-1 on Posse Cat.
Only one first time starter in this race, but it’s a good one. Kip Seville (Kipling – Klondike Kaytie by Encino) is a full-sister to Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Kip Deville. Their dam has produced 2 additional winners, including the stakes winner Gotthard who earned $286,645.
