Follow the Rules Outfights Sarina's Feistycat

Heavy favorite Follow the Rules (Peace Rules) went right to the lead, but was hounded by Faith Restored. That one got his head in front, but Follow the Rules fought him off. Sarina's Feistycat came running in the stretch, but Follow the Rules had enough left to hold him off and secure the maiden win.

A Clever Move Secures Victory

Madison Heights went to the lead with Retriever nearby. Thats a Good Thing was just off the pace and made his move in the stretch to gain the advantage. But, Yes I'm Clever got through on the inside and outfinished Thats a Good Thing to take the win. Madison Heights stuck around for 3rd. Frosty Diamond (Medaglia d'Oro) broke off-stride, but secured a good spot on the rail. But, he started faded backward and it looked like he would finish in the back of the pack. However, he did manage to pick up 5th while racing very wide and green.

Triumph for Evita, Trifecta King Checked

Cosmic Queen, Dash Dot Dash, Trifecta King, Emmy Darling, and Glitter City were all up on the early pace. On the turn, Trifecta King checked hard and was forced all the way back to last. That was end of story as far as this race was concerned for her, but she finished the race ok. Cosmic Queen also tired after a half. This left Glitter City and Emmy Darling on the lead. However, both Evita Argentina and Stardom Bound (who was off slow yet again) were coming.Iin the end, Evita prevailed by a length to become the first stakes winner for freshman sire Candy Ride. As she had in each of her starts, Glitter City lugged in a bit impeding Emmy Darling and was dq'd from 3rd to 4th.

That Bird Finds Peace in Paradise with the Playgirl

Not a bad day for Maiden Watch on Monday, August 4 with 3 straight wins. That streak was broken by Dance the Cha Cha's antics at Thistledown. Precious Beans was scratched out of his race, a race which ended in a dead heat between Skipadate and Ninth Client.

Mine That Bird Gets the Trip

Wise Honor and Trip Permit battled on the lead in the early going. Mine That Bird (Birdstone) broke well and secured a good spot on the rail in third. There was a moment of doubt whether he would find a way through, but, the jockey swung him outside and he wore down the leaders to win going away.

Pacificator Drops In

Sea of Enquiry ran off in the post parade, but his jockey stayed on and he stayed in the race. Pacificator broke well and went up with the leaders. Then, he backed off a bit and let Do Drop In and Sea of Enquiry fight it out. Do Drop In put away Sea of Enquiry, but Pacificator was coming.  It was close at the end, they studied the photo for so long that I thought it would be declared a deadheat. But, turns out it was Pacificator by the smallest of margins.

A Breakaway for Water Edison

In Speight of It did not get in off the AE list, so it was up to Audible to represent Maiden Watch. However, this one was pretty much over at the break as Break Water Edison went right to the lead and didn't look back. In the end, he was victorious by more than 4. Precursor came wide to secure 2nd, while Western Legend, who was ignored at the windows, closed well for 3rd. One that caught my eye was D C Tapit who looked impressive in the post parade and got involved late to finish 4th. Audible lingered at the back of the pack and hopefully learned something about racing.

A Good Day for Gooday

Sugaree Gold was off a step slow, but was soon up with the leading pack of Goodday, Track Majesty, Sorry Baby, and Brewha Baby. Goodday soon emerged from that pack to take a clear lead, while Track Majesty and Sugaree Gold tired. Kalapana was closing at the end, but Goodday was long gone. Goodday established a new track record on the Del Mar Polytrack for 5.5 furlongs, but I'm not sure how impressive that is.  Del Mar track records have been falling all over the place since they have significantly quickened the track this year.

It's late, so I'll update the workouts tomorrow.

Jojo goes by them all

It looked like our two horses, Medaglia d'Onore (colt; Medaglia d'Oro - Always Ready by Dixieland Band) and Persian (colt; Peace Rules - Lady Cheryl by Williamstown), took the match race reference to heart as they finished just a head apart.  Unfortunately, they finished 4th and 5th respectively and did not threaten the top three. The early part of the race was dominated by a speed duel between the filly, Mine All Mine, and the high-seller, Bullion Cache.  Mine All Mine put away Bullion Cache, but she couldn't hold off the oncoming Theregoesjojo who closed rather impressively to win going away.
