Five to Go on Sunday

Five Maiden Watch horses are entered on Sunday June 8, in two races. 

First up, is a battle of the Saarlands, as veteran Katolak Cowboy (Saarland - Tide Cat by Storm Cat) takes on debut runner, Sargon (Saarland - Cherished Jewel by Private Account) and 8 others.

Katolak Cowboy finished 7th in his first start of April 20 and improved to finish 3rd on May 9. Katolak Cowboy's dam, Tide Cat, was unraced and she has produced one winner who earned $43,143 and finished 5th in one 2-year old start. Tide Cat is a half-sister to Ide winner of the Southwest (gr. III) and Rebel (gr. III) stakes. Ide was a very good 2-year old, earning $243,780 that season including wins in the Iroquois (gr. III) and Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (gr. III).

Sargon's dam was a winner and she has produced 4 winners, 1 of which was a 2-year old winner. She is also a full-sister to grade II winner, Private Man who earned $287,280.

First-year sire Alke has two runners in the race, Broadway Al (Alke - West Broadway by West Acre) and Dublin Lane (Alke - John's Love by Chief's Crown). Both horses have run twice, most recently they met in a race at Woodbine on May 18 where Broadway Al was 2nd and Dublin Lane 3rd. Alke has had 4 starters and 2 winners (Broadway Al and Dublin Lane are the two non-winners) in his short stud career. Broadway Al sold for $120,000 as a 2-year old.  He is the first foal out of an unraced dam. She is a half-sister to 8 winners. The dam of Dublin Lane earned $86,417 and finished 4th in one start as a 2-year old. She has produced 2 winners, one of which won his 2-year old debut.

Another who ran in the May 18 race with Broadway Al and Dublin Lane was Silver Rocket (Mutakddim - Launch the Rocket by Forest Wildcat) who finished 5th. This was Silver Rocket's debut. Silver Rocket, who sold for $94,000 as a yearling, is a half-brother to Kid Sparkle who has earned $77,977 through 2008. Kid Sparkle had one win and 2 seconds as a 2-year old including a 2nd in the Fanfreluche Stakes.

Tin Pan Alley Cat (Roaring Fever - Rose City Music by Mt. Livermore) is a familiar foe, as he ran 5th in Katolak Cowboy's debut. Tin Pan Alley Cat also finished 4th in a 2 furlong race on May 9. Tin Pan Alley Cat is the only starter so far for his sire, Roaring Fever. Roaring Fever was a stakes winner who earned $219,655.  As a 2-year old, he started 4 times, recording a first and a second. The second-place finish came in the Cowdin Stakes (gr. III). Roaring Fever is also a full-brother to Raging Fever a millionaire who earned $598,500 during her 2-year old season.  That season included wins in the Adirondack (gr. II), Matron (gr. I), and Frizette (gr. I). Another full-sibling to Roaring Fever is the grade III winner and sire Stormin Fever.

First-year sire Candy Ride is the sire of El Brujo (Candy Ride (ARG) - Enchanted Spell by Devil's Bag) who makes his debut. Candy Ride has had 6 starters so far and no winners. Candy Ride was a grade I winner who earned $749,149, but he did not race as a 2-year old. El Brujo's dam was a winner who earned $19,831 ($18,661 as a 2-year old). She is the dam of 5 winners.

Storm Seeker (February Storm - Fun City Lady by Jeblar) is by first-year sire, February Storm who has had one starter. A son of Storm Cat, February Storm was a stakes winner who earned $203, 971. He is a half-brother to grade I winner Blushing K. D.

Judith's Event (Wild Event - Angelsaver by Siphon (BRZ) is a half-brother to one winner.

Becky's Express Hopes for Tranquil Times in the Cradle of Peace

Three of the eight horses in this race are Maiden Watch horses, two by Peace Rules (Cradle of Peace and Tranquil Times) and one by Congaree (Becky's Express).  All three are unraced.

Becky's Express (Congaree - Becky Virtue by Strodes Creek) is out of a stakes winning mare who earned $101,990. Becky Virtue is also a half-sister to the stakes winner Try N Express who earned $174,206 and won the Great Arizona Shoot-out Futurity as a 2-year old.

Selling for $80,000 as a yearling, Cradle of Peace (Peace Rules - Cat's Cradle by Flying Paster) is out of the grade I winner, Cat's Cradle. Cat's Cradle won or placed in 17 stakes including victory in the Acorn (gr. I) and earned $807,808. As a 2-year old, Cat's Cradle won 3 races including the California Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Stakes. She also finished 3rd in the Landaluce (gr. II) that same year. As a broodmare, Cat's Cradle has produced one winner, Stray Cat Blues, who earned $84,932 and won one race as a 2-year old.

Tranquil Times (Peace Rules - Lake Leman by Meadowlake) sold for $155,000 as a weanling. Tranquil Times is a half-brother to 2 winners, one of which won as a 2-year old. His dam is a half-sister to grade III stakes winner, Wild Gale who won the Kentucky Jockey Club (gr. III) as a 2-year old. Wild Gale also finished 3rd in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and the Belmont Stakes (gr. I).

The only experienced horse in this race is Join in the Dance (Sky Mesa - Dance Darling by Devil's Bag) who finished 2nd in a 5 furlong race at Churchill Downs on May 14 (in the slop). Join in the Dance's dam was unraced, but she is a half-sister to 11 winners including stakes winners Darling Danzig and Misnomer.

First-year stallion Friends Lake is the sire of My Pal Richie (Friends Lake - Fleet Pact by Afleet) who sold for $100,000 as a 2-year old. Friends Lake has had three starters and one winner, Screen Your Friend. My Pal Richie is a half-brother to 6 winners, 2 of which won during their 2-year old season.

Breaking News (More Than Ready - Shuko by Defensive Play) is out of a mare who won 3 races (and placed in 2 others) as a 2-year old. She has produced 2 winners.

Selling for $33,000 as a 2-year old was Big Al Cordes (Smoke Glacken - Hondo Creek by Private Terms). Big Al Cordes is the first foal out of the winning mare, Hondo Creek. Hondo Creek is a half-sister to 5 winners.

My Dominick James (Dance Master - Smiling Mindy by Robyn Dancer) is out of a mare who earned $40,839 as a 2-year old. She is the dam of 2 winners including Nereus who was a 2-year old winner and who has earned $134,509 through 2008.
