Since we have no entries for August 1 and only one result for July 31 (Stone Skipper), I thought it might be a good time to review how our boys are doing so far.

Go Smarty Go; And Many More Works

Go Smarty Go (colt; Smarty Jones - Sarah's World by Holy Bull) worked 3 furlongs in :37.44 at Belmont Park.

He Run Away and Hid from Tiger Rules

The Smarty Jones' colt Keefer was on track at Churchill Downs on 4/18, working 3 furlongs in :39.60. Keefer is out of the Seattle Slew mare, Shootforthestars.

Two-Year Olds Under Tack; Smarties, Speightstowns and more.

The other Smarty Jones was Hip #35, a bay colt by Alaska Queen, a Time for a Change mare. Alaska Queen is the dam of 4 winners including stakes winners Keats and Fairbanks who finished 2nd in the Gulfstream Park Handicap (gr. II) earlier this year. Hip #35 worked a quarter in :21.4.

It's a Sly Storm; Plus Workouts

Smart Sugar, a chestnut Smarty Jones filly out of the Deputy Minister mare, Ashraaf, worked 2 furlongs at Hollywood Park recording a time of :26.20. Ashraaf earned $137,480 and won as a 2-year old. She has had one previous foal, Just Regal, who finished 11th in her first and only start on February 23, 2008 at Gulfstream.

Gabby's Golden Gal Causin' Havoc for Dr. Smarty Jack - 2-Year Olds Work

Dr. Smarty Jack (Smarty Jones – Hoh Buzzard (IRE) by Alhaarth (IRE)), a chestnut colt, worked 4 furlongs in :54.00 at Sunland Park on 3/5/08. Grade II stakes winner Hoh Buzzard earned $319,839 and included the Mrs. Revere (gr. II) among her victories. Dr. Smarty Jack is her first foal.

The First of the Smarties, but Speightstown Steals the Headlines.

The star of the first year stallions was Speightstown with 4 horses selling for an average of $751,250. The top-selling Speightstown was hip #254, a colt out of the Holy Bull mare La Comete. He brought a final bid of $1.7 million.

Here Come the Smarties

First opportunity to see offspring of Smarty Jones in motion came at the Fasig-Tipton Calder Selected Two-Year Olds in Training Sale. Three Smarties were in action, 2 colts and 1 filly. Hip #144, a bay colt out of a half-sister to Unbridled’s Song (Bells Are Ringing) worked an eighth in :10.3.
