One of my all time favorites - not only a very handsome horse but gutsy and fast. His recovery in the Preakness was a miracle.

A great horse!  I followed him from his first works at Saratoga as a 2 year old  through to (sadly) watching his last race in person, the Belmont.  Early on as a 2yr old me and my racing buddies all knew he was going to make big noise.  Timely to remember he also won the Arkansas Derby on the way to the triple crown trail...he's one of the ONES that paved the golden path through Oaklawn to the first Saturday in May.

I am really looking forward to Saratoga this year...I want to see Tim Ritchy in the paddock hoisting a saddle on one of these babies and being there when they take down the Sanford or better yet the Hopeful once again.

What a stunning picture of a truly great stallion! He's my favorite from that crop of 3 yo's. I still have his poster hanging in my living room and yes, I bought the Breyer model. Alex, my love, I hope you have a long career at stud like Storm Cat. And I hope you are still getting those peppermints you love!

Alex belongs to a family member of mine. Took the triple crown race circuit along with them and wow!what an experience. Know a lot more about horses and racing now then ever before and I Am Hooked.Alex is a calm, funny horse who loved peppermints and we went to almost all his races and even had the pleasure of meeting him in the stables after his races. I hope all his babies do well and am looking forward to someday visiting Alex at the Gainesway farm in Kentucky.

Look at my post for June 3rd. Two months later and I am correct Dublin is on his way.  Nice win in MSW at Saratoga 8/1.

Brian 04 Aug 2009 10:38 AM

Brian - Dublin sure did look good. May be the one to take D. Wayne Lukas back to the Derby Winner's Circle.

I am a fortunate fan to know the owners and visited Afleet Alex at Gainesway Farm. What a thrill. Afleet Alex has love in his heart because his owners have that same love. They have helped so many children with cancer and I truly believe Afleet Alex's legacy is someday his foals will win the Triple Crown. How can they miss with little Alex Scott in the saddle from heaven.  Go Alex!!!

We interrupted our vacation in the Adirondacks to go down to Saratoga and see Dublin's race.  We went right the rail where I said to my wife and daughter - this is where Alex passed the field, lets see if his boy does it too....sure enough, right where we were standing he took the lead, it was AWESOME.  He looks like his daddy, but a bit bigger I thought.

Alex's Army is growing.

Dave 17 Aug 2009 4:54 PM

Dave - thanks for that firsthand account of Dublin's win. He certainly looks like a promising colt.

Blood-Horse Staff 17 Aug 2009 7:56 PM

I am so thrilled to see my all-time favorite racehorse get his first grade 1 winner let alone his first stakes winner. May he have many more stakes winners to come!

Classic Fool 07 Sep 2009 8:34 PM

Hmmm, let me go check my post above from 2/18...yes sir, check that win the Hopeful off the list...now when does the first Saturday in May fall next year??

Dublins Hopeful was sooo much like Alex's it is uncanny.  The drifting, the winning, the cashing...wonderful. The way he entered the paddock everyone knew, he's the one.

Anyone hearing anything about his next race?
