I was at Belmont that Sunday to specifically watch him run. He was extremely impressive. As I ran toward the winner's circle to watch the celebration I was thrilled that "Smarty" has a real runner. However it quickly became apparent that Go Smarty Go was not returning. My heart sank as I focused him through my binoculars standing in obvious distress with the jockey dismounted and holding him steady. I'm thrilled to hear he is recuperating and wonder if there is anyway to get updates on his condition. I love the game but the health and safety of the horses and riders is most important.

I fully agree with psd. Why are they running these babies when they're far from being mature and subject to so many injuries? Our colt didn't start until he was three but that was only because he got hurt in the paddock and was out of training for a while as a two year old. Lucky for him.

He was so much mature at three and won his first time out. I hope so much that Go Smarty Go makes a full recovery and goes on to make his daddy even prouder.

I really hate racing 2 year olds. I can see training, but these are still baby horses. They should not set foot on a track till 3- how many 2 year olds have to be injured or worse for the right thing is done and let these animals mature!! There are a lot of trainers that aren't in any hurry to get them on the track, so I know I'm not the only one that feels this way.

I appreciate all your concern about Go Smarty Go, I'll let you know as soon as I learn anything. Don't read anything into the delay, I'm not in the office for the next couple days, plus I'm on jury duty and Tuesday is my birthday.

looked like his daddy with that

Smarty already has 4 (including Go Smarty Go) that broke their maiden on their first start. Keefer, Smart Coco and Be Smart are the other 3. There's only a few that have started, but he's got a good start with his offspring.

I, too, am looking for news for Go Smarty Go, and that he's ok.

I too was sad to see the colt pulled up after. I very rarely play first time starters but the quick works, recent fast bullet plus my perhaps irrational belief that Smarty is going to turn out to be a first class turf sire caused me to play this one. That was a very quickly run race and the colt worked out a good trip through a large field. A very impressive performance. Looking forward to this one's next race, hopefully soon.

Please let us know how Go Smarty Go is. I was so excited to see one of Smarty's babies do so well, then my heart sank when I read that they vanned him off the track after the race.

Nothing worse than a two year old getting hurt. I one time saw a two year old go down in his first race ever. I got sick to my stomach. Lets hope this colt is okay.

Thanks for your write-up of the Smarty colt. It's worrisome that he was vanned off after the race; please do let us know how he's doing when you have a chance.

Also, if you've seen Smarty's offspring "up close and personal," would you kindly comment on why they're selling at such a low multiple -- only 1.5 times for his median foal -- of his stud fee of $100K? My guess is that they're smallish, for one thing, and the market rewards size, and that he might not be "stamping" his offspring with his looks. This particular foal sold at the 2007 Keenland Sept. sale for only $35K, so at an appreciable loss to his breeder.

Relatedly, have you heard anything about whether Smarty J's stud fee will fall or whether it's privately being discounted?

He needs a really good juvenile to prove himself at stud. Go Smarty Go could be "the one" and will, I hope, recover soon!
