Dont worry about the negative Nellies. I like your headlines and love the blog. Thankfully someone is even printing this information. I'm grateful for what you do and maybe some other folks can see that someday.

Im a Birdstone fan myself and we all know what he did to SJ. Thanks for the blog....Keep up the good work.

this blog has gotten me looking at first year sires for the very first time. While I am bit disappointed in Smarty Jones - Birdstone, Medaglia d'Oro, and Speightstown have been pleasant surprises. In addition, many sires have offspring that aren't their best until 3 or 4.

Cgriff - Me You and Her was the headline because there were only two horses running and Moving Violation finished last. It's not just Smarty, any horse that wins usually gets a headline - unless there are multiple wins. And regardless of the level, it was a good race.

Take heart. We will soon have new sires and new 2-year olds.

The perceived negativity might be simply because a low level claiming race would hardly seem to warrant a trumpeted headline as lead on the blog.

I have tried in the past to post my thoughts that Smarty Jones may not prove to be the sire his fee warranted - but have always been censored - even though I never said anything mean spirited or innapropriate.

I might be edited again, who knows?

But it seems to this reader that you work extra hard to build up average performances from every SJ foal who runs.

Anyone who voices scepticism is either not posted or called "being negative." It's a puzzlement!

Bottom line, until SJ gets some real runners winning in at least allowance level races - people are going to look at the stats and say he's producing workmanlike runners. He wouldn't be the first good racehorse who couldn't transfer his talent - but let the readers decide without the hype.

I'll be the first to cheer his progeny if they start to really shine. But until then - don't call it a diamond when its really just a cubic zirconium performance.

Actually saw Be Smart win at Saratoga & cashed a ticket on her. Wagering aside, we love this sport & Smarty ( along with Afleet Alex) will always be our favorites. Just want to see their babies do well.

Bill - you got me curious, I went back and watched the replay. Back far early, running greenly, on the wrong lead, and he still wins by 5? Definitely one to watch.

Bill - I missed that one. Anyone else see it? I just looked up his dam (Affirmed Class), she's produced nothing but winners. No stakes performers (yet?), but some $100,000+ earners.

keenelandcat - Don't forget about Be Smart, second in the Alcibiades (gr. I). But, yes it is possible they are late bloomers. He's already had 2 winners in 2009.

Lauren - Did you see the race? It was an impressive performance. Impressive performances can occur at all levels. I never said that she was the next Oaks winner. Not sure why everyone has the need to be negative.
