Someone mentioned that Afleeting Lady was deserving of broodmare of the year ( I believe this was Ray Paulick). Maybe this is for 2013/2014.

Something to consider anyway. Great list and deserving winner. And the most beautiful name.

Good thing you didn't ask me to write a mare biography this year. I am currently on my fourth antibiotic for a sinus infection and my brain has been on half-pay for quite a while now. That plus the crushing blow from the death of my one and only broodmare with her foal in February, leaving me disinclined to think about mares for a few weeks.

Scot's reply: Anne, I was heartbroken for you when I heard of your loss. I'm sorry you had to suffer one of the saddest breeding experiences.

Word is Zenyatta gave birth to her Tapit Filly late last night or early this morning.

Kitty, Could be that she isn't due until April, I was just repeating what her Facebook page said. While we wait for Zenyatta to reveal her newest project, Local news and Sagamore Farm's facebook page is reporting 2010 Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf winner Shared Account has delivered her first foal, a healthy bay Bernardini colt. There are a couple photos up on their FB page. He's a of lovely foal. Congrats to Sagamore on all their new babies.

Zenny didn't foal until March 8th last year. It's about 5-6 weeks after that date that she would have been bred back, at the earliest. I don't believe she was due until the first week of April.

Speaking of Broodmares, Shouldn't Zenyatta have had her Tapit foal my now ? Her FB page posted March 11 said any day now. That was 11 days ago and nothing. I sure hope everything is OK.

Very accomplished group you offer, and all are deserving of recognition. Of those listed, I chose Arlucea as the #1 using the following criteria:

Temporality/level of talent of 2012 runners, total body of "work", opportunity (relative merit(s) of sires of 2012 runners), consideration of overall pedigree (and its recent produce), since this bears on the luck vs true merit angle. So, the stallion, E Dubai, was a factor, as was the highly talented, Izarra, and aside from the family's other more obvious strengths, there was the promising, Patriot's Pass. That said, I think you may have forgotten to include what is, perhaps, the best broodmare alive-MATLACHA PASS (dam of Point Of Entry, Pine Island, etc.).
