It would be something if one of Z's offspring, or an immediate family member, was ready to make its first start before the Triple Crown was long past.

I was happy for Gary and Lucas. You are never too old for this sport. That being said, I think the ticket for a triple crown winner was punched last year when I'll Have Another's owner pulled his "cookie" from the final leg in the quest for the crown. Now we wait, and wait, and wait some more. Doubt I'll live long enough to see it happen, but you never know. Wouldn't it create a frenzy if one of Zenyatta's "pups" sealed the deal and won the triple? Now THAT would be worth the wait. If dreams keep us alive, I'll live to be 110, so maybe I will get to see that 12th triple crown winner afterall.

Like most people, I initially hoped for an Orb Triple Crown. But as a fellow 50-year-old, I was thrilled by Gary Stevens' victory. His shout of joy as he crossed the finish line--"Are you kidding me?!"--will stay with me forever as one of my favorite racing memories.
