But I have a question--- I just viewed the video of Smart Strike's new son from Sheriff's Deputy, therefore a full brother to Curlin. Looks like a good colt, plenty bold and active... but what happened to the dam? In the video of him in the stall just learning to walk, she is there, acting like a good mother; but in the field footage a week later, it is very obvious that he is following a pinto QH type nursemare. Is his dam okay?

It will be fun to follow this colt, as the Barbaro siblings have been followed. I am "just a fan", but have been a fan since I was a small child and saw Citation "live". Racing has seen a lot of changes in those years, not all of them good--- but the horses are still the center of it all and just as beautiful and thrilling to watch.

re: Smart Strike is a Rising Broodmare Sire

Smart Strike has worked his way up the hard way and now has a chance of being one of the top 5 No. American sires since 1950. His runners have always moved his mares up in the earnings category and now he is showing he will do the same with his daughter's offspring. When his 2008 foal crop hits the track in 2010 I believe we will see his impact increase even more as these foals are from better mares and there are more of them. This is a result of Curlin, English Channel, etc. He throws good colts and fillies, going long or short, on grass or dirt. This year he has a top filly in France, Denomination and a top 4 year old in Japan, Break Run Out so his international reputation is growing also.

She also foaled Dance Smartly, one of the best race mares ever to look through a bridle and who went on to an incredible broodmare career of her own.
