Like all of us, Roy and Gretchen Jackson have been eagerly awaiting the career debut of Lentenor, and now that Barbaro's brother is ready to make his first start at Keeneland on Saturday, Oct. 31, they will probably miss it.

Anne Eberhardt visited with La Ville Rouge and her 2009 full brother to Barbaro at Mill Ridge Farm earlier this week. Here is her report, complete with photos and links to more photos.

October 4 marks the anniversary of Barbaro winning his career debut at Delaware Park in 2005.

Touching base with Roy Jackson this afternoon, he said things are going well for Barbaro's full siblings - Lentenor, Nicanor, and the colt foaled this year, as well as with dam La Ville Rouge.

While Lentenor continues his regular workouts at Fair Hill Training Center, his full brother, Nicanor, has been turned out and won't return to training until 60 days from when he was scratched out of the July 18 Virginia Derby due to a leg injury.

With nothing going on at the track right now with Nicanor and Lentenor, Barbaro's two full brothers in training, it gave us an opportunity to touch base with Headley Bell, bloodstock adviser to Roy and Gretchen Jackson, for a status report.

Michael Matz said this morning that Nicanor is still recovering from the bruise that caused him to miss the Virginia Derby.

Nicanor faces a tough challenge Saturday as he will break from post position 4 under Jose Lexcano in the 10-horse field entered in the $750,000 Virginia Derby.

Nicanor, the 3-year-old full brother to Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, continued to work toward his next start when he breezed five furlongs in 1:01 at Fair Hill Training Center July 7. The time was co-fastest of the day among five working that distance on the fast main track.

La Ville Rouge, the dam of ill-fated Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, has been checked in foal at the 62-day stage of her pregnancy for 2009 and is believed to be carrying a filly.

Lentenor, the 2-year-old full brother to ill-fated Barbaro and to up-and-coming turf specialist Nicanor, turned in another workout June 29 at Fair Hill Training Center.

Sent off as the 2-5 favorite, Nicanor ran off with the field Wednesday to post his second consecutive win and remain undefeated on grass with an impressive victory at Delaware Park.

Lentenor, the 2-year-old full brother to Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, had his first officially recorded workout June 15 when he breezed three furlongs in :38 at Fair Hill Training Center in Maryland. The time tied three others for the fastest of the day among six horses breezing at the distance.
