Wow.....what a stunner.  The resemblance to Barbaro is startling--even his forehead marking is almost identical.  Got the legs and butt of a Quarterhorse--looks like he can run on anything, and if Nic runs as good as he looks, he will win the Triple Crown!

You know, I can't agree. Sure, there's a general familial resemblence -- his star, for one. But his body seems longer, legs not quite as long, he's more...feline than Barbaro. His face is shaped differently. Convex, not concave. Longer.

All the same? He is a GORGEOUS horse. And oh...he does have the same look in his eyes. Distant. Noble. Looks like a Thoroughbred should. Knows he's good. That above all else, all family ties, gives me hope for this handsome boy. Sure, he could flop as badly as The Green Monkey and he'd STILL be adored, but I'd love it if he could run. Would be thrilling to see.

We can dream about it now and the ending we hope for could make the grandest story of racing. Close your eyes and see the spires next May, Nic walks out and sees 'em. His brother whispers from above....The race will be over soon.....but the roar of the fans will be heard everywhere.....and our sad story won't be sad any longer!

My friend I have been checking you out since I found out Barbaro had a brother.I collect everything I can on Barbaro since I feel like I lost a friend.(this comes from breaking my apples in 1/2,Barbaro would understand.)I have been waiting to see you in the Derby since your birth.I havent talked to Gretchen for awhile but she is a great person that loves her horses and she will make sure everything goes well.

I hope that Roy & Gretchen know, from all these heartfelt comments, how much we all loved Barbaro, and wished him well with our every breath in those final months.  He was that rarest of things -- an athlete with a sweet temperament, majestic beauty, and giving heart.  In Nicanor, namesake of countless great figures, may we all find reason to rejoice again, and celebrate Barbaro's greatness.  Y recuerdos mejores al Senor Prado, su buen amigo...que le vaya bien, por siempre.

Nicanor definitely resembles his mother in looks, as did Barbaro...the newest member of the family Lentenor looks more like Dynaformer.  

Should be interesting to see how each colt does on the track. Obviously the cross of LVR and Dynaformer is a excellent one.

Looking at what i have seen of BOTH brothers to barbaro, They are GREAT colts and both perspectively should do well on their own. That given, All 3 ( barbaro, nic and lent) have triple crown winners ( yes more than 1 ) in thier bloodlines. Im sure Nic Will be a fine racehorse in the year coming up, However he will NEVER be another Babaro. Barbaro is not replacable, therefore Nic will have some BIG horseshoes to fill as will Lent when he gts bigger.

Looking At Nicanor's Yearling Photo it seemed he was as big and broad as Barbaro was at 3. He may very well be Greater than his brother, then again, he may not turn out to be as great.Only time and training will tell. Good luck Nicanor, you're a fine looking colt.

He looks so much like his bother and so many peoples hopes, dream and asperations are going along with him... I wish him luck in his training and the good long healthy life that his brother was so sadly denied. I can't wait to follow him on his career path and I hope he makes us all proud. In fact, I know he will because there is no way he can disappoint us. He's Barbaro's brother.

Little Lentenor is not so little anymore!  He is a strapping,  yearling now and no longer fuzzy.

The Mill Ridge website has a video of Lentenor that shows how much he's grown and changed.  Still absolutely gorgeous, of course.  This entire family is.  May these boys have long, healthy lives.  If they also have talent, that's icing on the cake. I'd be content to just look at them standing still, they are that beautiful.  God has surely blessed this family. I still miss Barbaro, terribly though.

After this weekends events and the disappointment of the great Big Brown, I felt great comfort that Nicanor and Lentenor have the best connections, who truly care for them and wont exploit them.  Big Brown undoubtedly was the victim of the steroid injections (which should never have begun) being withdrawn. That and the heat (and the HYPE!)

Dutrow and company are eating a lot of crow this morning, I fear.

I read somewhere= else that they breezed Nicanor yesterday -- ahead of schedule??? A timed workout -- something like 3 furlongs in 39 seconds, I believe.  I thought they were going to do that at the end of the month.

What an awesome sight! NICANOR will blow them away come race time. always like Barbaro, hopefully he will fill the shoe. best wishest to Nicanor,and to Roy and Gretchen. it's time to electrify the audience once more, hail Barbaro...run NICANOR run.!!!!

Anna,I've kept horses all my life and if a horse never raced on a track he would race the other horses in the pasture which is uneven and far more dangerous than the track. These Thoroughbred have been bred to run for almost two centuries,if a thoroughbred didn't want to run nothing could make him.  They run because they want to. These Horses are, for the most part,highly valued by all the people around it and are treated much better than a lot of pets.
