Because so many of you are interested in the family behind Nicanor, I thought I would point out three other horses by Dynaformer who are currently in the news. However, please remember, in the horse racing world they are not related to Nicanor even though they have the same sire. This is because they have different mothers.
First, I wanted to give some attention to veteran campaigner Perfect Drift, who will return to Turfway Park one more time this Saturday for congratulations and honors as he begins his retirement. The 9-year-old gelding consistently raced at the highest levels across his eight-year career. From a remarkable 50 career starts, he posted 11 wins, 14 seconds, and 7 thirds and collected $4,714,213 in earnings.
Perfect Drift, who is out of the stakes-winning Naskra mare Nice Gal, raced as a homebred for Dr. William Reed’s Stonecrest Farm. He finished third in both the 2002 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and 2005 Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I). At Turfway, he experienced some of his greatest wins, including the 2002 Lane's End Spiral Stakes (gr. II) and 2003 Kentucky Cup Classic (gr. II). His most notable victory came in the 2003 Stephen Foster Handicap, a grade I race in which he defeated eventual Horse of the Year Mineshaft.
Enjoy your retirement, Perfect Drift!
Update: Here is a photo of Perfect Drift with longtime groom Richard Anderson at Turfway Park this past Saturday:

Next up is a lovely 2-year-old filly named Rainbow View, who races as a homebred for George Strawbridge’s Augustin Stable. Although she was bred in America and is out of the grade I-winning mare No Matter What, Rainbow View is racing in England. She has raced three times, is undefeated, and has victories in the Aug. 9 Skybet.com Sweet Solera Stakes (Eng-III) and Sept. 11 Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield May Hill Stakes (Eng-II) to her credit.
Rainbow View, who is pictured below at Doncaster, is expected to try group I company in her next start, the Sept. 27 Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile at Ascot. UPDATE: She won! Here is a link to the story: http://racing.bloodhorse.com/article/47288.htm (Also, another Dynaformer filly, Dynaforce, won the grade I Flower Bowl at Belmont.)

And finally, I noticed a purchase at the recently concluded Keeneland September yearling sale that readers of this blog might be interested in. A Dynaformer colt out of the stakes-winning Dixieland Band mare Amelia was bought by Lael Stable for $500,000. I don’t know anything else about this guy, except that he is bay, but I thought he might be one you would be interested in for next year.
** Also, thanks to MVH for pointing out that Ice Road has been entered in the fifth race at Philadelphia Park this Saturday. It is a 10-horse field and scheduled to go off at 2:04 EST. Please see past posts for information on this Unbridled's Song colt, who has worked out in the past with Nicanor. UPDATE: He scratched. Lots of rain, again.**
