Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy (early) Thanksgiving!

Since a few readers have already posted their Thanksgiving well wishes, I thought I would put up a post solely for that purpose.

Personally, I would like to thank everyone who has been so kind in supplying information about Nicanor, Lentenor, and others related to them. They all seem to understand that many people are still fascinated by Barbaro’s family. Without them, this blog would not be possible.

Feel free to post your well wishes, if you like.

Thanks to all the folks who have posted here for putting up with my thoughts on the Barbaro siblings. Differing opinions are what makes the world go 'round, and all of your thoughts were duly noted.

To Dona:

As you give thanks for the siblings, I give thanks for the chance to bet against.....win or lose, I'll remember the heated debates while making my bets. Hope one of us is right!!!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

As Thanksgiving approaches, I am thankful for this blog and those at Bloodhorse who keep it going.  Yes, because of the impact that Barbaro made on me, I am devoted to finding information on Nicanor and Lentenor as well as updates on the other horses of his wonderful connections.  Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to all, especially for the others who cared so much about Barbaro.

I would love to wish Nic And Lenny good luck at racing, and to let them know they got my prayers and hopes that everything will all turn out great(:

Megan. 24 Nov 2008 7:01 PM

Sure hope that colt break his maiden first time out.  How will this group be able to stand it if Nicanor turns out to be just a regular race horse?   Personally, I wish him all the luck.  Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all that provided info for this blog.    It is an appropriate time to thank those owners that take care of their horses, runners or otherwise, that don't allow them to end up on a dinner table in some foreign land.

Mike 24 Nov 2008 9:27 PM

Happy Thanksgiving to all but mostly, thank God for horses!

ofelia 24 Nov 2008 9:29 PM

sandieh 25 Nov 2008 8:53 AM

Gee, I feel like one of the actresses on awards night that forget to thank a husband or something.

So, I want to wish all of you bloggers a wonderfully Happy Thanksgiving.

Kathy 25 Nov 2008 9:33 AM

I am thankful for this blog and all those we look for love and hope in life.  I am even thankful for Rick because although his opinion is different than most of ours, he still comes back and reads this blog.  Don't bet too heavily against Barbaro's brothers, don't want you to have to admit we were right when you lose your $ :)

To everyone, have a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Enjoy all the moments you spend with family and friends.  Do something for someone you don't know, you will touch their lives in a special way.

For me, I will be working on Thanksgiving Day at a hospital and I will celebrate with co-workers that day and my family a different day.  I will think of you all and keep you in my prayers.  God Bless You!

Sandy 25 Nov 2008 12:46 PM

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and love to all the gallant horses

Tammy 25 Nov 2008 1:22 PM

I wish you all a very joyous and safe Thanksgiving.

Though I know these magnificent racehorses are bred and trained for the business of racing, I think the LOVE and appreciation of the horse in all its magnificence has been reignited -- largely through the Barbaro experience or "effect" as it has been called.

I think this is one of the many illuminations Barbaro's beautiful and too brief life brought us, and continues to provide through his spirit and the generosity of his connections.

I also don't think there is any worry if Nicanor or Lententor do not prove to possess the amazing talent of Barbaro.  Their mere existence and extension of the Barbaro force has provided such positivity during times of helter skelter and great despair.  So I think out love, attention, excitement and interest will not waver should they not be superstars of the racetrack.

The journey is as profitable for our spirits as their wins would be for the pockets of many.

I am thankful for Barbaro and the journey he and his connections have provided to this collective, represented in this blog, in the FOB's, in those who continue to donate to New Bolton and other equine and laminitis cure funds, and in those groups who continue to rescue wild (cudo's M. Pickens!!!)and discarded horses.

In a tough world, these are indeed blessings to count among our others.

Thanks to all.

Karen, PA 25 Nov 2008 2:05 PM

May God Bless each of you (even Rick) and the reasons we are here (Barbaro and his beautiful brothers and Dam and Sire) and Amanda for her great efforts to keep us fed with information.  Happy Thanksgiving once

again to the Jacksons, Matzes, Peter and family, Edoardo and Edgar Prado and their families.

MVH 25 Nov 2008 2:33 PM

Amanda, Thank you for all the hard work you've done in order to bring us, the fans of Barbaro and his family, updates on their progress and wellbeing. Thanksgiving is a time to remember the blessings we have received and hope for things that are yet to come.

I am thankful for the gifts that Barbaro gave us, the excitement of his stunning Kentucky Derby victory as well as the hope, agony and heartbreak he brougt us all in his valiant struggle to live. His fight for life inspired racing fans and horse lovers the world over, as well as those who knew nothing about racing and saw only one of gods most glorious creatures struck down in his prime.

His passing left many of us with empty hearts, but we were given the gift of his brothers and through them we have the hope that they will realize the glory that Barbaro was so cruely denied.

There is the hope that Nicanor or Lentenor will, no matter what they accomplish on the track, if anything, at least one day be able to pass along the genetic traits to their offspring that flowed through big brothers veins.

To everyone who has contributed to this blog, all the Barbaro connections and expecially Amanda (who feeds our ravenous appetites for information) Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families.

mdfanofracing 25 Nov 2008 5:28 PM

Rick, Refresh my memory, were we exchanging opinions about the  racing abilities of Nicanor and Lentenor? Or perhaps the merit of blindly betting against a particular horse reguardless of the racing conditions?  Funny, I could swear it was about a case of ignoring the truth and forming a baseless opinion. I could be wrong about that, maybe it's just my opinion.  However, I feel that I'm not wrong in saying that to declare your prerace betting intentions against Barbaros siblings just because of who they are , sounds malicious. Shame on you. If money means nothing to you, give it to charity for someones Thanksgiving dinner.

Dona 25 Nov 2008 11:43 PM

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. It is such a joy to read all of your posts and feel how you share the same love for Barbaro and his family as I do. Regardless of when Nicanor and Lentenor run, or how they fare on the track, they are permanent fixtures within Barbaro's family tree and it is a privilege to read about them and share all in all of the goodness that is within this blog. Along with all of you, I want to wish Barbaro's family and all those graced to look after their livelihood a memorable and warm holiday season. Horses are God's gift to all of us. While Barbaro's time was brief, his impact on our lives will live forever. Be well, and God Bless..

I am grateful to have this blog in order to learn about Barbaro's brothers' progress. I wish them,

the Jacksons, and all associated with their care the very best now

and always. I am grateful I got to see the great Barbaro; he lives on in my memory. If Nicanor and Lentenor go on to glory, so much to the good. Just have a wonderful and long life. I will root for you no matter what.

Barbara 26 Nov 2008 9:57 AM

Barbaros family is a bright spot during these times.Thank you for keeping us informed and to all involved.Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Tracy 26 Nov 2008 10:15 AM

I wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving last week but I want to do it again because I'm touched by all the love and well wishes for the holiday. The stories how people came to know and love Barbaro, agonizing over his death, and getting involved in various activities  of racing, is inspiring.        Barbaro was special, not only for his accomplishments, but the inspiration of his struggle to live. We all admire courage and the will to live, It's our nature.  When I was a very small toddler, I told my favorite cousin that I was going to steal her boy friend because he rode his horse whenever he came calling for her. I don't remember him but can still see that beautiful black horse. It's been a lifelong love affair for me.  Our first television was in the early fifties (yeah, I'm telling my age) during a time when horse racing was king. Does anyone else remember when Native Dancer was one of the top sports heros in this country? It was love at first sight for me, the Grey Ghost as he was called, was the foundation of my interest in the thoroughbred horse and racing in general. Living in L.A. gave me the opportunity to see some of the greatest thoroughbreds that ever raced. I ducked out of the office on many an occasion to see Native Diver, John Henry, Cougar II, Silky Sullivan, Swaps, Round Table, and of course my all time favorite, Willy Shoemaker. How I loved that little imp. His scowling expressions! Most of all, I loved his kindness with the horses he rode. Unlike many a rider, during and after his time, Willy wouldn't beat a horse to death just to win. After some crushing losses of life and limb, I couldn't take the heartbreak any more and I stopped going to the track. I still watched television whenever a big race was on but my heart wasn't in it. I did try to follow Native Dancers descendants as much as possible and enjoyed their accomplishments. One day I read something about Alyn Hunter and her comments reguarding a 2yr old colt named Barbaro.  I was smitten the first time I saw him run. It was during a time that I was house bound caring for my ailing mother and had just discovered Tvg. Such a fragile line between love and dispair, nothing prepares you for either one. As much as I wanted to withdraw again, Barbaros fight for life wouldn't let me. I came to understand that loving him and hoping for his recovery, wasn't enough, like many of his fans, I become involved again.  Am an avid collector, joined various organizations, contribute to the Laminitis fund and of course jumped at the chance to become part of this blog. I say this not to boast but to give credit to Barbaros influence in my life. I am thankful for the Jacksons sharing their horse with us. I am thankful for the Bloodhorse magazine, its organization, its employees and you Amanda for keeping us informed. I am thankful for Nicanor, Lentenor and hopefully a healthful new sibling because as someone said here, they give us  reason to hope for the future of Barbaros genes. Most of all, I am thankful to be a part of Barbaros memory and sharing it with you.  I will be spending my holiday in Los Angeles and I'm going to Hollywood Park to honor Zenyatta.

Dona 26 Nov 2008 10:34 AM

I hope that Nicanor and Lentenor have a wonderful and graceful thanksgiving by being able to graze on a day off from there job. maybe they could even do some pony rides or being able to pet them or see them for the kids who dont have a lot to be thankful for...

Megan 26 Nov 2008 1:42 PM

Dona,

in an effort to bury the hatchet, I'll give you your due...most articulately stated. However, I did think that I had spelled out the basis for my very unpopular opinion. The fact remains that both of these horses will be undeniably overbet, thus creating a very lucrative opportunity in a bettor's eyes (unless that bettor plays favorites). I have seen many situations where pricy yearlings have been overwhelmingly favored in the pools when it came time to race for the first time. Many times(I'll even go so far as to say more often than not, but without the proper evidence mind you), the horse in question does lose. Just an observation formed from a wealth of personal experience.

My hopes are that I did not offend, and to apologize if I did. Your passion for the subject makes you very qualified to have submitted your opinion, and certainly gives me pause. My apologies, Happy Thanksgiving!

rick 26 Nov 2008 4:16 PM

I want to give thanks to Barbaro. Because of his life, though it was too short, others may live to the fulfillment he could not through him.  He and those that were around him has helped most all of us to not take for granted the fragility of life in one respect or another. For that in of itself I give Thanks.

HORSEWLD 26 Nov 2008 6:22 PM

Thank you Rick, your contrition is most apropos at this time of year. Happy Thanksgiving to you where ever you may be. It is I who must apologize to Avalyn Hunter for typing her name wrong. It would seem that a certain over weight cat (wonder why) has attempted to get my attention far too many times and almost destroyed the Z, V, Q and R keys on my laptop. There's nothing but little cones sticking up where there used to be black squares and whenever I try to type something, I must remember to reread many times in order to catch, and remedy, Sammy's handiwork. That's my boy.

Dona,  Native Dancer was my first horse to love and follow, also.  That he was grey intrigued me for some reason.  Secretariat and Ruffian were my next loves -- especially Secretariat, that big gorgeous animal.  I put my heart on hold until Barbaro and now I am hooked.  I scour the web for any information on Nicanor and Lentenor, et al. My love of animals extends to dogs and cats, squirrels, raccoons, possum and birds, all of whom I have in my

backyard.  I have had numerous dogs, with a couple of golden retrievers (whom my cats all loved) and now I have 7 inside cats -- all rescues.  My time on this blog and over on ABR have taught me so much!

My thanks to all of you for sharing your knowledge.

We are so thankful that Bloodhorse is doing this so we can keep track of Barbaro's family!!!!
