Nicanor Back at Home at Fair Hill

After spending some time at Keeneland in Lexington this April, Nicanor returned home to Fair Hill in Maryland.

The 3-year-old Dynaformer colt posted a work out there April 28, breezing five furlongs in 1:01.4. The time was the fastest of three at that distance.

Trainer Michael Matz said Nicanor will most likely race next at Delaware Park.

134 Comments:

Was he sent to Keeneland just to see how he would fair on the synthetic surface?

Janet 28 Apr 2009 2:44 PM

Thanks, as always, for the update.  I am looking forward to Nic's next race when he breaks his maiden.

Lisa in Colorado 28 Apr 2009 2:52 PM

Hi Nicanor,

Glad to see you are back at Fair Hill. I saw how fast you ran today in your workout and you were breezing. I am so proud of you. I still believe in you...think first, think first. I believe in you. Think first at Delaware. You will do just fine.

So Nicky may race at Delaware Park next? We'll want to follow that, but I'm glad he's back home right now. I'm sure he enjoys his familiar surroundings.

Mattie W. 28 Apr 2009 5:27 PM

Is it possible he could race those other two horse in his next race?

TomF 28 Apr 2009 5:33 PM

Sounds like he is doing great!  Thank you for the update.

Cassidy 28 Apr 2009 5:33 PM

lets get to the races and geta win!

The Phantom 28 Apr 2009 5:53 PM

Thanks for the update, Amanda.  I'm glad he's back at his home base, still in training.  Of course, it is absolutely none of my business, but I sure do hope they will consider the turf for his next start.  He's been getting stronger in his races, now he needs to win one to know that is what he needs to be doing.

txbarbfan 28 Apr 2009 5:58 PM

Nicanor, you beautiful boy.  Focus on the prize and win one for all who love you. We know you can do it, you have the pedigree and your big brother is watching over you.  He is whispering in your ear, "you can do it".  Don't look to the right or left, just look forward.  Good luck in your next race and know that we love you no matter what.

HaleyB 28 Apr 2009 6:03 PM

Now we know where our boy Nicanor is finally located. I'm sure Amanda will keep us posted on his next race date. Glad he made it there safely. Have any idea how long he's been there?

Amanda do you have any idea when Lentanor might arrive at Fair Hill?

Thanks for the updae.

Greg J, you may be right about Nicanor's next race date. We'll see!!

Lou in TX 28 Apr 2009 6:12 PM

Gina 28 Apr 2009 9:35 PM

welcome back Nicky after your whirlwind adventure. hope you learned something because your time for 5f of 101.4 bested the same distance for General Quarters, who finished 5f in 101.80 13/30. seems like you're getting ready for the big time. love you big guy, stay healthy and work hard. hope to see you soon on the main track. Give a nicker to little brother for me, can't wait to see how he's grown, bet he's a knockout just like you.

Thanks Amanda, much love to you and yours and everyone else that helps keep us up to date on the Barbaro family.

Dona 28 Apr 2009 10:24 PM

You go Nicanor!! Win one for all of us who have been watching and waiting for your first win! Show the world you are Barbaro's brother big guy.

Berner05 28 Apr 2009 11:08 PM

Sounds to me like Nicanor might be a great candidate for pussycat of the year; if he wants to be a well-loved lawn ornament, he's welcome here.... we have an extra ten acres with barn, water, electric blanket and reading lamp for late night perusal of the Daily Racing Form just waiting for a new resident..................

needler in Virginia 28 Apr 2009 11:25 PM

Hopefully, now that Nicanor is closer I can see him race. Delaware is not far from Southern Maryland~!!

He sure is developing nicely.

Linda 28 Apr 2009 11:31 PM

Glad to see Nicanor back Home...

As far as Him racing May 12, Here is the Condition Book for Delaware Park, On that day, Only the Turf race suits his creditials, If you go by what M.Matz said that his next race would be May 12th.  So, If true, He should have a work or two to get familiar with the turf, then Hopefully, Break his Maiden, I will be driving down from Connecticut to see him(About a 4 hour drive), Cannot Wait...

I live just a short distance from Fairhill, I visit this facility frequently.  So glad Nicanor is home!!  I look forward to seeing some of his workouts; all of the horses are so engrossing, Fairhill is a superb training location, we are fortunate to have it here in Maryland.  God speed Nicanor; Barbaro is  watching you from heaven, I still become very emotional when I recall this beautiful horse..... As a friend of mine from Scotland told me, "no horses ever really go away.."  Barbaro will be in my heart forever....

The Rainbow Bridge For Horses

By the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,

is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.

Where the friends of man and woman do run,

when their time on earth is over and done.

For here, between this world and the next,

is a place where beloved creatures find rest.

On this golden land, they wait and they play,

til The Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.

No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,

for here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.

Their limbs are restored, their health renewed.

Their bodies have healed with strength imbued.

They trot through the grass without even a care,

til one day they whinny and sniff at the air.

All ears prick forward, eyes sharp and alert.

Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the herd.

For just at that second, there's no room for remorse.

As they see each other...one person...one horse.

So they run to each other, these friends from long past

The time of their parting is over at last.

The sadness they felt while they were apart

has turned to joy once more in each heart.

They nuzzle with a love that will last forever.

And then, side-by-side, they cross over...together.

Enjoy your Sixth Birthday, Barbaro...

Barbaro At The Rainbow Bridge

   Written & Contributed By

         Stephi Luken

It was an ordinary day at the Rainbow Bridge, sunny and warm, and all the creatures were playing or resting while waiting for their people who had loved them on Earth.

Suddenly the tranquility was broken by a sound like thunder, which most  residents could just barely remember. The sound got louder and louder, a  powerful, rhythmic pounding until a crowd formed to see what it could possibly be.

Finally, within a cloud of dust appeared a magnificent stallion, snorting and galloping across the Rainbow Bridge into eternity. The animals knew that Barbaro had arrived, on four strong legs, never to limp or be in pain again, while he waits for all his people who loved him so much.

Greg J. 29 Apr 2009 9:57 AM

Good Luck Nicanor and stay safe there are alot of horses getting hurt this week so please everybody working with Nicanor keep him safe.  Why isn't Edgar Prado no longer riding Nicanor??  Thanks

For your brother, Nicanor:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BARBARO !!!

So incredibly moved by Barbaro's very "alive" bronze statue.  Everyone connected did the most amazing tribute to him that could be done -- in motion, flying !

On Barbaro's birthday, I want to say the acronym that comforted us and that always meant so much every morning, and now means the same for BARBARO's eternity -- "ACN" forever . . .

Now on to the brothers Nicanor, Lentenor and the young-nor who we are so anxious to hear about . . . the equine family who has captured our hearts!

Karen, PA 29 Apr 2009 11:12 AM

I'm glad Nicanor is back at FH. Good luck in your upcoming races. Please stay safe

Kath from SC 29 Apr 2009 12:32 PM

Glad Nicky's doing good and that he'll be going back to his enviroment. Does anyone know how La Ville Rouge and her recent colt is doing? Also did we ever get pictures of him? Hope the Barbaro family is all good.

Lexis 29 Apr 2009 1:04 PM

Well this is distrubing news. It was announced that Nicanor was supposed to ship from Keeneland to Delaware Park early last week.

Now he is back at the Training facility....

This is kind of like a kid having to go to summer school because of poor grades. Is he ok physically?

Beth 29 Apr 2009 1:58 PM

Happy Birthday Barbaro :)

Cassidy 29 Apr 2009 3:47 PM

Thats great. From what I hear, the competition at Delaware will be far easier than in Florida.

Majella from Ireland 29 Apr 2009 3:54 PM

I saw somewhere that he was racing on the undercard Derby day. Was that just a rumor?

Livia 29 Apr 2009 4:09 PM

I hope Nicanor does well when he next races. Is there any reports on lentenor and the baby. May all their carreers be good and may they live to go to stud.

Welcome HOME Nicanor.  You know your big brother is the highlight of this week.  :-)  He is protecting you dear.

stardust 29 Apr 2009 5:02 PM

This is a second tier track , the competition will not match what he ran against in Fl should be a easy win but...with maiden's nothing is certain.Prado is history with this horse.

2 time valley player of the year 29 Apr 2009 5:26 PM

Beth - No worries, Fair Hill is the trainer's home base and Delaware Park is near by.

Pearly (and all)- There will be updates soon, but it is Derby week and my schedule is very crowded with other obligations. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Fair Hill Training Center is close to Delaware Park.  So, on or just before race day, May 12, Nic will van over to Delaware for his race.

Marigold 29 Apr 2009 5:44 PM

Oh Greg J. that was wonderful!! It just makes one's heart fill up with love for Barbaro!!!

Ragsy 29 Apr 2009 5:57 PM

Good news about La Ville Rouge's '09 colt we call Baby-nor -- as was reported, he had an infection in his umbilical vein which is common, and required surgery to remove the infection.

Recovering well, he was turned out in a small paddock and is eating and enjoying life.

Also, the lovely La Ville Rouge has had her appointment with the mighty Dynaformer, and they should know in about 2 weeks if she will be in foal with another member of the Barbaro family.

I read all this today on the Mill Ridge website Barbaro family Guestbook where the gracious Kimberly brought us a little more insight on the progress of Barbaro's family.

Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Big Bay Colt . . . may your positive impact continue, Barbaro!

MaryEllen 29 Apr 2009 10:20 PM

Nicanor, you do get around! I am looking forward to your next race, but stay safe.  Happy Birthday Barbaro.  I read on the Mill Ridge website baby brother has been enjoying some green grass and sunshine, no better combination.  That was good to hear.

Great that Nicanor is back at beautiful Fairhill. He should enjoy his time at such a special facility!

Karen in Texas 29 Apr 2009 11:56 PM

Nicanor you are loved happy you are home Barbaro will be forever missed, but a part of him lives on in his brothers lets all remember that Nicanor and Letanor and the new foal are not Barbaro and each have their own destiny and may not be champions on the track but they will still be loved.

darlene 30 Apr 2009 8:52 AM

I am just glad that Nicanor is home. I am so close to him now and can go watch him run. That means the world to me. GregJ thanks for the rainbow bridge poems, I have many dogs waiting for me at the bridge and I always pictured Barbaro there too!

Beth 30 Apr 2009 1:50 PM

Kalesa, you won't see Nic in either of those races and probably not in any stakes races, he hasn't won a race yet and doesn't have the talent of the top 3 year olds. He should get his first win next out , the horses he will run against won't be very good , Delaware is not a top tier track therefore it doesn't attract top talent which bodes well for him.

2 time valley player of the year 30 Apr 2009 4:23 PM

Hopefully Nicanor will race again soon. I couldn't help thinking about him Sunday at his brothers statue unveiling. When the Jacksons were speaking of Barbaro I remember thinking that his bothers will somehow carry on for him.

DONNA 30 Apr 2009 5:06 PM

There are 2 - 1 1/16 mile races on the turf At Del Park. 5/12 & 5/13.

Both are for 3 yo and up.

On 5/18 there is a 1-mile race on the dirt for 3 yo. This could be his race.

Don 30 Apr 2009 6:10 PM

Kimberly at Mill Ridge stated, that LaVille Rouge was bred back to Dynaformer on 4-26-09 then in 2 weeks she will be checked for pregnancy, ? a filly, wouldnt that be super!!!

Ragsy 30 Apr 2009 7:38 PM

The statue of Barbaro is beautiful. Remarkable likeness to him! Nicanor is getting better and better each time he races. He will be a winner~!!

Linda 30 Apr 2009 9:15 PM

I know this is off topic, but I hope you will indulge me.

The great New Zealand mare Sunline was euthanised because of laminitis.

Please, Friends of Barbaro, keep fighting the good fight. It's so important.

Nic, on this Derby Day who cannot think of your magnificent brother, and of tragic Eight Belles....I pray that all your racing days will be safe, and that you will show them that Barbaro's spirit lives on in you. Keep up the good work!

Judy in Newport 02 May 2009 5:42 PM

Let Nicanor run in the Belmont.

rick 02 May 2009 9:51 PM

sure wish Nic could have run in the derby, but Barbaro was there in spirit. did anyone notice that it was Barbaro's pink # 8 saddle blanket on a long shot 50-1 odds gelding that won on the same year that barbaro's ashes were just interred on the grounds? is this wierd or what...am I the only one who noticed this? as I said before..Barbaro lives on.

horselover 03 May 2009 1:25 AM

Well, the Derby's over so now we can concentrate on our boys Nicanor, Lentenor and Babynor of whom we have never seen.  Hopefully Amanda will have time now to get some pics to us. He must have really grown bigger. Not that he was small at 143 ibs.

Too bad that we missed him when he was younger like we got to see with Nicanor and Lentenor. But any pics would be welcomed!!

Greg J, can you confirm that Nicanor will be runnning on the 12th? You usually come up this these dates already posted.

Hope you all didn't lose too much $ on the Derby!! Mind That Bird kind-of surprised everybody didn't he! Good for him...he deserved to win. Had the greatest jockey!

Lets hear from you all now...

Lou in TX 03 May 2009 6:22 PM

Hey Nicanor. I am glad that you are back in MD! I have faith that you are going to do well. Just relax and run. I know you love you to run, just like your brother did. You have an awesome jockey! trust him and everyone that is working with you, that wont steer you wrong. I Promise baby! Love you Nicanor! You are in my heart in and in my prayers. Hope to see you running for the triple crown soon. But take the time you need, to get there. everyone that you are involved with will get you there. I promise. just trust them.

Ash 03 May 2009 8:09 PM

What a wonderful tribute the owners and trainer of MINE THAT BIRD made to Barbaro yesterday. They laid the garland of roses over the rail of Barbaro's memorial and gave away all the roses that made up the blanket to fans viewing the statue of our beloved fallen hero. It just doesnt get any better then that. It proves that Barbaros memory is alive and well and lives in the hearts of horseman and fans alike.

mdfanofracing 04 May 2009 9:33 AM

Where is Lentenor?  Is he still in Florida??  I'm getting really excited about his shipping to Fair Hill.  Michael and Peter are going to have some fun with that young horse.  He's going to surprise everyone, just watch!

Marigold 04 May 2009 10:50 AM

I cannot believe what I just read from Big Red over at another blog.  They are running FF in the Preakness with 3 messed up legs?  My God!  That horse needs to heal!  Boy this makes me mad.

crazy stardust FOB 04 May 2009 11:57 AM

Greg J.

OK now that this Derby is over and I had one horse that hit the board and you have a winning exacta ticket for over 6 grand!  You can bet that the pink silks, #8, Barbaro wanted you to hit that exacta!  :-)  Good Job and thank you for being so honest.  The world needs more people like you.

Now on to bigger and more important things LOL.  Let's mess around with the Preakness OK?  I think it is gonna be

Mine that Bird

Pioneer of the Nile

that is it so far.  :)

crazy stardust FOB 04 May 2009 12:02 PM

Yes, Horselover, I noticed that also. He surely did run with spirit. Nicky, may you run safe and stay healthy, our sweety on May 12th. Hope (I know the connections are still busy) to see some pictures of all three of you boys soon! Love you! And Amanda, sincere thanks for putting up with us!

sandieh 04 May 2009 12:20 PM

I too noticed that Mine that Bird had Barbaro's pink #8! I think he was running that race and was showing everyone that he is still with us. Now he can concentrate on his brothers and help them to be winners.

Berner05 04 May 2009 1:05 PM

Stardust,

Somebody was looking over me, that's for sure, Talk about funny luck, Now, It is way too early to pick for the Preakness, But I will go on the record and hope Mine That Bird wins the Triple Crown!, I still don't agree that he is going, I don't think it is his type of race, I think the owners are being selfish and greedy, They should train him for the Belmont, It is in his blood, The Preakness is too short for his late kick, and it is a fast breaking race in the beginning, another thing that I don't think suits him, BUT wish him all the luck in the world...

"Mine That Bird" = "A Modern Day Seabiscuit"

Only thing right now that I wil say about the Preakness, Watch out for "Big Drama" and "Mr. Fantasy"

Lastly, I hope "Friesan Fire" heals safe and sound....

Greg J. 04 May 2009 3:26 PM

Mine That Bird's connections are truly class acts. What a beautiful tribute both to Barbaro and to the fans... not only do they deserve to win, I truly hope they show the world that their little gelding has what it takes to win both the Preakness & Belmont... the sport needs a king to wear the crown... and with he pink #8 silks coming out in front again in the Derby... perhaps Barbaro believes so too!

Lady Ruffian 04 May 2009 3:34 PM

Berner05

I know Barbaro was right there with the little guy. Sometimes it isn't the big bad trainers, horses and owners that take it home.  Sometimes it is a little brown horse that weighs 900 pounds that NO-ONE even would give the time of day to that shows them all what it really means to WIN a Derby.  Barbaro was with that little guy all the way to the wire.  He even let him beat his record!

I think we have a TC winner.  The Preakness will be his biggest test.  With Calivin?  I don't think it will be that hard.  :)

crazy stardust 04 May 2009 3:34 PM

I love what MTB's connections decided to do w/ the roses and to honor Barbaro:)

Also thank you Bloodhorse for the great picture of Barbaro's statue in the May 2 magazine.

Cassidy 04 May 2009 3:47 PM

FYI,

Besides a HUGE congrats to "Mine that Bird", A few other are in order:

Also, Congrats to Rachel Alexandra(Amazing!!!, Speechless...), Congrats to Brazilian-bred Einstein(What a will to win!!!)...

And finally, Congrats to Lael Stable's(The Jackson's) daughter of Stormy Atlantic, "My Princess Jess", Who took home the Beaugay at Belmont. Trainer Barclay Tagg & Jockey Cornelio Velasquez  deserved the win, Good Job...

One more thing, R.I.P. to "Stormalory", As the race favorite in the American Turf Stakes, This striking 3yr. old bay colt by Storm Cat out of Miss Halory pulled up and was vanned off; X-rays revealed he had suffered a medial sesamoid fracture and cannon bone fractures of his left front leg, and he was euthanized. My thoughts to all of his connections, Sad....

Now, On to "Nicanor", Hopefully, Next tuesday will be his day(May 12), But for that to happen, He needs a work tomorrow or Wednesday, I don't know, time will tell....

Greg J. 04 May 2009 4:58 PM

Greg meow j,now your touting more horses for the Preakness what happened to all your 4 great picks in the Derby-hahhhahhha.Sure you won by mistake and Elvis lives, are you going to bet what you claim you made on Nicanor next time he runs ?LOL , I saw Elvis at the Derby!

The Phantom 04 May 2009 5:08 PM

I was so happy this weekend with my Queen Rachel winning in such a spectacular form. Then Einstein won his race and Cowboy Cal, 2 of my favorites, came in 1 and 2 in their race. Then all "heck" breaks loose in the Derby and I'm looking for my beautiful and talented darling, Friesan Fire, and he's nowhere to be found. Then, I look for POTN, my second favorite, and he's going to win the Derby and all is well with the world again. And then, this "nobody of a horse" with the silly name is stealing the Derby. And THEN I actually noticed the horse. No he's not a beauty like Friesan Fire and I Want Revenge and so many of the others that raced in the Derby; and no he's not as big and muscular as the others; and he doesn't have famous people around him; and he even had to ride in a trailer for 21 hours hitched to a truck that broke down so he could be in the biggest race of his life only to be ignored by the press and racing fans. But, Good Lord, what a ride!!! We all know Mine That Bird now, not only because of the thrill ride he took us on but because of the graciousness of his connections in sharing their glorious moment with Barbaro and those who still cherish his memory. I for one will be cheering for the Derby Champ in the Preakness and the Belmont (if he runs) and will pray for his continued health and safety.

Ida Lee 04 May 2009 7:15 PM

Greg J....did you really win 6 grand on Sat. If so...that's fabulous!!

I can't believe they want to run FF in the Preakness. Look how long they gave Nicanor to heal from his quarter injury. It sounds like FF's was even worse than his. Besides he had other cuts on his legs. How cruel can you get? They are certainly taking better care of GQ than that. I don't guess you can tell I'm mad! How greedy can they get! I'm so glad those rich you know what's didn't win the Derby if that's the way they treat their horses. They must come first!! Go Mind That Bird in the preakness!!!

Lou in TX 04 May 2009 7:16 PM

Stardust, I just read a list of confirmed and possible Preakness starters and Friesan Fire is not on it. I don't think anyone believes that Larry Jones will run Friesan Fire if he was seriously injured. His horses mean way to much to him to jeopardize their careers or lives. What i read was FF had one of his rear heels clipped, and a couple superficial cuts on his legs.  I read also, he had webbing imbedded in one of his hooves, im assuming the shoe caught it. What i dont know is where the webbing came from, Is it a piece of leg wrap?

I know i was on pins and needles until all the horses were back in their barns safely. The track was a quagmire and with 20 horses all fighting for a piece of the Derby pie, it looked very rough out there.

Also, I heard on the news this morning that Preakness tickets are not selling well, so, PLEASE, If you want to see this great part of racing heritage continue, buy a ticket, I got mine today.

Could Nicanor run in the Preakness?Possibly finish the race his brother started,I think he could do it.

Tracy 05 May 2009 9:11 AM

Preakness,

    Some Info:

Friesan Fire, who finished 18th as the favorite, had a gash on the back of his left front hoof - a grabbed quarter - and will skip the Preakness., THANK YOU, LARRY JONES...

Dunkirk, who finished 11th, injured his left hind hoof and also is out of consideration for the Preakness.

Join in the Dance, who was seventh in the Derby after setting the early pace, might run in the Preakness. Pletcher will definitely run Take the Points, who skipped the Derby despite having enough graded stakes earnings to make the field.

In addition to Take the Points, other non-Derby starters who could run in the Preakness include Big Drama and Mr. Fantasy.

WinStar Farm, said their three Derby starters - Hold Me Back (12th), Advice (13th), and Mr. Hot Stuff (15th) - would not run in the Preakness.

Kelly Breen, the trainer of West Side Bernie (ninth) and Atomic Rain (16th), said he had no plans for either colt, but did not expect to run in the Preakness. "We are going back to Monmouth and regroup," he said.

Papa Clem, who was fourth for trainer Gary Stute, may come back in two weeks for the Preakness. Stute's father, Mel, won the Preakness in 1986 with Snow Chief, who finished 11th in the Derby.

Musket Man, who finished third, is "under consideration," trainer Derek Ryan said.

"If he runs in the Preakness, he would not run in the Belmont," Ryan said. "It'll be one or the other."

Pioneerof the Nile, who was second, is only a possibility, trainer Bob Baffert said Sunday.

Mine That Bird, the upset winner of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday at Churchill Downs, would run in the Preakness Stakes on May 16 at Pimlico.

"You cannot have a Triple Crown winner without having the Derby winner in the Preakness," Woolley said. "That plays into our decision, but the horse looks super."

Woolley said Mine That Bird will travel by van from Churchill Downs to Pimlico on May 11 or 12. Mine That Bird came to Churchill Downs by van from Sunland Park in New Mexico. Woolley has never run a horse at Pimlico.

LOU IN TX,

Larry Jones IS NOT running "Fire" in the Preakness, He is VERY carefull with his horses, After the Fire's incredibly rough Derby ride, There was "0" chance of Jones running him, THANK GOD., I would be shocked to see Fire in the Belmont, He will be back, Better then ever, Breeder's Cup???

Yes, I did Hit for over 6 Grand on Derby, BUT I did not pick "Mine that Bird", I asked for a $6.00 Straight Exacta on 6-16(Fire & POTN), the teller hit 8-16(MTB & POTN)....I could go more in detail, but don't want to bore you, But, I am giving 10 percent to the Barbaro Fund(Laminitis), and $100.00 to the Teller....

I wish I was that smart and picked the Bird...!!!

Greg J. 05 May 2009 10:43 AM

The Phantom,

I have given up on you, My God, What if I didn't exist?, What would you do then?, lol, You really need to channel your energy to something positive...You really would greatly benefit from it...

I would offer you a truce, but That would probably be fruitless...But here you go...

   "I AM OFFERING A TRUCE...."

Also, Go to Jason's Blog on this Site(Bloodhorse):

(Triple Crown), "Kentucky Derby Thoughts - One Day After",

Read what happened to me, I sent Jason a picture of my winning exacta ticket...

HE CONFIRMED IT ON HIS BLOG...

Phantom, I didn't pick "Mine That Bird", I had 52 tickets, The teller hit 8-16, instead of 6-16, I have no reason to lie, not in my nature, I would agree with you if I saw someone say that too, I would say that is Unbelievable also, BUT,  Believe it or not, It did happen, If you still don't believe me, That is your right, but see if you and I can be civil from this point on, O.K.?, I will keep my end of the bargain...

Don't you think educated and knowledgeable comments that help people are more constructive then attacking people, Just curious...

You obviously have some knowledge about this sport or you wouldn't be here, So why not educate people that are new at Horse Racing with your comments ?

The ball is in your court....

Greg DID hit that ticket.  It was faxed to bloodhorse and it is all over the place on another blog.  I am sick and tired of you coming over here and raining on Barbaro's parade. I am also tired of you putting the horses and the people down.

You are the biggest naysayer on this board and you are not wanted  by most of us.  Please do me a favor and go barry your head in the sand.  That is where it belongs.

Greg I know and everyone else knows that Greg hit that exacta and what did you hit?  Why do you even care what he did and did not hit?  It is NONE of your buiseness what he does with his life.  It is none of your buiseness what any of us do.

Greg is a really good handicapper and had Mine That Bird NOT wizzed by the other horses, he would have hit the superfecta!  Really Barbaro is really tired of you in his blog.  :-)

Yes Greg did hit the 20 dollar straight up exacta on the Derby. He had a lot of tickets that day and when he told the teller to punch in 6 and 16 for the straight up exacta, the teller made a mistake and put an 8 instead of a 6 and number 8 went in.  That is why he hit the exacta.  It did pay over 6 grand.

He didn't know what to do.  He came to the blogs and asked and we told him to cash it in.   He is a very honest person because only a dis-honest person would have not said anything.  It was not his pick.  It was a mistake on the house.

Greg J.  Head over to LVR's blog and I'll put the wedding up again.  Thank You for your overwhelming generosity for giving 600 dollars to the Barbaro Fund.  If this world had people like you and only like you, it would be a much better place to live. :)

I hit some things on both days but lost in the end cause of the Derby.  I had Pioneer as a win and put the rest of my purse on him to take the win.  I did hit a couple of wins on Derby day and a DD.  In the end, I lost it all because of Mine That Bird but I didn't care.  It was worth it to see that horse win the Run for the Roses.

crazy stardust 05 May 2009 12:18 PM

Wouldn't you know this.  I put Court Vision in my 4 pick and hit the first two horses.  I did not put Einstein in for some reason and I feel like a quack.  Of course I had PON in the 4th race so that would have taken me down anyway.  But I did that 50 cent four and hit the first two horses.  Also hit the wins.  Guess that is what they call wagering. :)

Greg J, I hope you keep your promise made on another blog to donate some of your Derby winnings to New Bolton or the NTRA Barbaro Fund.  Barbaro is watching!

mdfanofracing: if Pimlico wants to sell tickets to the Preakness, they need to find a price point between $45 for the infield with the drunken idiots, and $130 for a seat under cover, $275 for the best seats.  Who can afford that?

Trolls and racing rookies: Nicanor is not remotely ready to run in a grade I stakes race, please stop making fools of yourselves.

Grey K 05 May 2009 2:02 PM

Tracy, you must be kidding he can't even beat non winners and you think he can win the Preakness? He couldn't even get into that race.Besides Greg "Mr meow" has already told the world who he thinks will win but then again he was raving about those 4 hot picks for the Derby and none hit the board-forget Fantasy he won't run in Preakness.I saw Elvis at the Derby by mistake!

The Phantom 05 May 2009 2:46 PM

Wow - did I cry when I saw Barbaro's statute - knowing his ashes were beneath.  What a beautiful tribute to the Champion! I can't wait to see it in person. I watch all of his races over and over again - he will always be in my heart.  Hopefully smaller statutes will be produced for purchase and maybe a portion of the proceeds can go to the Barbaro Fund.  Prayers to all of Barbaro's connections - they are truly wonderful, caring people.

You have nothing to prove to a  incompetent person.  You don't have to prove anything to anyone.  This is not a court of law.  My best friend is an attorney and you know what?  The only time you need to prove things is when you are in trouble OR on the stand!  Forget about that person.  Really it is total nonsense.  :)

Stardust,

People will be who they are, regardless.  I offered an olive branch, but that was just me trying to be civil.  Trust Me, These particular people don't bother me, it just shows how insecure some people are, Oh well., But I will clear up one thing, I would not have hit the superfecta if Mine that Bird didn't win.  Once Friesan Fire got injured, All of my tickets were toast!, Except for One!!!, lol, But it was a $6.00 straight Exacta, not a $20.00.  Just wanted to clear that up....Thanks...

Stardust, what is your freaking problem? I don't know what provoked this UNWARRANTED ATTACK on me - I haven't even posted here for over a week. I have no reason to doubt Greg J.'s word, especially after he confirmed his winning ticket with the moderator of the TC blog. As usual, you are just flapping your gums to hear the sound of your own voice and know not whereof you speak.

Name ONE HORSE I have put down. Name ONE CONNECTION I have put down. YOU are the one talking trash about Larry Jones and Rick Porter and Kent Desormeaux and anyone else you take a notion to because of some weird perceived notion that they cheat or mistreat their horses or whatever - like this little gem from today -

"I don't believe that LARRY would do it either.  It isn't him I am concerned about.  I love him and I totally understand him quitting.  I hope they don't enter that horse."

It is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS if "they" enter Friesan Fire in the Preakness. If "they" think he is healthy and ready, "they" will enter him. When you start paying FF's bills, maybe "they" will let you make decisions about where and when he will race.

I think the only one I'm "not wanted" by is you because I've exposed you for what you are. So when you're through channeling Barbaro and planning your My Little Pony wedding, I'll still be here waiting. So go "BARRY" your head somewhere and learn to spell! I wonder who Barbaro is REALLY tired of!

Concerned Fan 05 May 2009 6:32 PM

I've already said I don't bet so I didn't win or lose anything.

Greg, congrats on your win! Not many people cashed tickets on Mine That Bird, so you are indeed fortunate! He's a plucky little horse, and do they come any more humble than Calvin Borel?

The demise of Stormalory was very sad. I was hoping we would get through Derby weekend without an incident. My condolences to his connections.

Rachel Alexandra is FREAKIN' AWESOME!!

Concerned Fan 05 May 2009 6:54 PM

Stardust, you really should stop trying to stir up negative impressions about Larry Jones and the FHF Team.

You started with:  "I cannot believe what I just read from Big Red over at another blog.  They are running FF in the Preakness with 3 messed up legs?  My God!  That horse needs to heal!  Boy this makes me mad."

It is obvious that you will back peddle if people don't support your accusations.  Just don't start them in the first place.

SL 05 May 2009 7:21 PM

Greg J.

Maybe I was thinking of the 6 thousand not the wager.  Sorry.  You did have the 4 horses in your mind for that super. :)  I remember you talking about it.

crazy stardust 05 May 2009 8:36 PM

I bet $30 on Friesan Fire, $20 on POTN, and $2 on Mine That Bird.  This is the first time I have ever bet on a horse.  I have HRTV and Calvin Borel the day before on Rachael Alexandra, and on derby day, Calvin was in the zone.  He won I think 3 races before the derby.  The big races are all about the horse, jockey, trainer, and a lot of luck.  Handicapping is what it is; it's about the horse.  I won a little money on Mine That Bird, but I should have followed my instincts and put everything on him.  I AM STUPID.  You know, MTB does nt have a bad record.  I think that he pulled a Seabiscuit on us.  FF is still my boy.

Mary 05 May 2009 9:31 PM

Greg J.  You did have Pioneer in your pick so you did too hit the board.  Didn't you say that you were going to put Papa Clem, Summer Bird and Muskit Man in too?  I know that FF was your top pick and I kept wondering why.  Those other three though, didn't you say that you wanted to wager those three and had Mine that Bird been in there, you would have hit the super.  I think that is what you said. Un-confuse me.  I don't remember what blog it was on LOL.

Now I am dizzy.  I know I wasn't sleeping LOL.  Sorry I got the 20 dollars and the 6,000+ dollars mixed up.  Man a 20 dollar exacta would have paid what?  You do the math LOL. :)

crazy stardust 05 May 2009 9:32 PM

Tracy

I'll  be nice about this :).  Nicanor hasn't yet broke his maiden so he hasn't got the winnings or the experience to go to the stakes races yet.  I believe he is a 4 year old horse.  Late bloomer.  I think we will be very suprised at the Breeders Cup and the naysayers again can eat their words.

Lentenor is the one that I feel will do well next year and maybe go to the Derby.  He is a lot more mature and matured a lot faster than Nicky Nocks did.  The little big guy is pretty darn big for not even being 2 months old.  My hunch for the Derby is Lentenor,  OR the little one.  The TC is not in the cards for Nicanor and that is OK because it wasn't meant to be.  :)

crazy stardust 05 May 2009 9:38 PM

Hey Nic your new baby brother is wonderful~!! Almost as hansome as you are !

myykkyy 05 May 2009 10:10 PM

GREY K.,

Yes, I am a man of my word, 10 percent($625.00) will be going to Barbaro's Fund at Penn Veterinary School of Medicine. Also, $100.00 went to the Teller who made the mistake(I didn't tell her she made the mistake, though!).

Also, As far as Nicanor racing this Tuesday, May 12, at Delaware.  He would have to get a work today, I don't think it will happen now, though.  I think with all the rain here in the Northeast all week, The track was probably muddy, and Mr. Matz probably kept Nicanor off it, Just my opinion, I might be wrong since Mr. Matz has surprised me in the past, We will see......

And, If you go by his past races, He has always had a Work-out 4 or 5 days prior to his race, So going by that guideline, He would need a work today(Wednesday) or, at the latest, Tomorrow(Thursday), Like I said, We will see, There is NO rush.......

Hello Stardust, Greg J, Concerned Fan:

Have a happy day today...I am...  That new baby is some looker isnt he!!!Such a well built baby colt too...he really looks like a baby that I have seen before and his name is Barbaro!!!

Ragsy 06 May 2009 10:00 AM

Concerned Fan,

Thanks, You are right on three fronts, Rachel Alexandra is INCREDIBLE, Just pure speed and talent, Could be the best in a very, very long time!!!, Calvin is a master, But one thing is still confusing me, Didn't any of the other jocks or trainer's realize the Rail was the place to be, I know easier said then done, but you look at all the races for Friday and Saturday, The rail was it, and Stormalory passing, What can I say?, Just so Sad, Words can't describe it, Started the weekend off on the worst case scenario.....

Stardust,

No offense meant here, Concerned Fan has said nothing negative to me , So If I were you, Maybe back off a little, OK, Thanks....and lastly, Last time I will say this on Derby, My top four were, Fire, Candy, General, and Summer Bird, Those were my biggest tickets, They didn't come in, I was wrong, Along with ALOT of people, Oh Well....That's why it is called Gambling, If it wasn't for the Exacta, It would have been my weakest picks in a long time....BUT, It still was the most exciting and shocking Derby I can remember!!!,

Finally,

On Friesan Fire,

I wouldn't mind if he doesn't go to the Preakness, BUT, I am not the Trainer, He is the only one who can make that call, Remember, the injuries are superficial, It all depends how they heal, Mr. Jones would never put Fire in unless he was 110 percent sure he was perfect for the Preakness, Just my two cents...

Greg J. 06 May 2009 10:09 AM

Greg J.

It isn't the trainer of FF that worries me. I do not really take to Gabe very well but I have nothing against Larry Jones.  I just hope that HE is the one to make the decision on FF.

Everything else.  I know what I know about these naysayers and believe me, I am so not alone.  They are kids that have nothing better to do than rain on peoples parades.  Wait until they go over and start something at Babynor's and LVR's blog.  :)

Noramally at least in this country.  People can't bet until they are 18?  That would be the reason that some of these people don't bet.  Not sure what the age is but I know that under 18 is off limits.  :)
