La Ville Rouge Video; Nicanor Entered

Here is the video of La Ville Rouge and her new Dynaformer colt. It was fillmed last Tuesday, May 5, at Mill Ridge Farm near Lexington.

For those who keep asking, he has not been named yet. Most Thoroughbreds are not named until they are 1-2 years old. Enjoy the video!

Nicanor News:

Nicanor has been entered in the sixth race at Delaware Park Wednesday, May 13. The race is a maiden special weight on the turf and carries a purse of $38,000. Rosie Napravnik has the mount for the 1 1/16-mile contest, and the race is scheduled to go off at about 3:30 (EDT). Nicanor drew post No. 10.

This is the first turf race Nicanor has been entered in, and he will also be wearing blinkers for the first time. The 3-year-old Dynaformer colt has raced three times to date. He finished off the board in his debut, and has been second in his last two starts.

He was born one day after Rags To Riches filly!

Meghan 10 May 2009 9:46 AM

Oh Amanada :) What a beautiful way to make a morning start.  Mommy I want milk stand still LOL.  I love it when he comes over and nibbles on the wood by you and he is just so cute and so STRONG.  Those legs my Lord.  Beautiful Mom and baby.  Love him just as much as his brothers and of course the boss Barbaro.

Thank You Amanda for making such a difference in our lives.  :)

stardust 10 May 2009 10:16 AM

Amanda

Is that a cross on his halter?

stardust aka rose 10 May 2009 10:46 AM

What a delightful little guy with a great personality.  The video tells such a tremendous story of a great Mom with her special colt. Happy Mother's Day LVR.

HaleyB 10 May 2009 10:51 AM

Stardust - No. I believe what you are talking about is simply the tag that reads "La Ville Rouge" on it. Most farms put name tags on the babies referring to which mare they are out of.

aduckworth 10 May 2009 11:06 AM

When they say big and strong, they aren't kidding. The mare looks really good too.

Thanks Amanda, Mill Ridge, and the Jacksons.

Tiznowbaby 10 May 2009 11:13 AM

OMG, you are all missing the obvious baby here!!

Curlin's full brother was born very recently, and he is OBVIOUSLY the 2012 Triple Crown winner! He'll also probably get THREE Horse Of The Year Eclipse awards, and far exceeed the all-time earning record.

The breeding is perfect, and of course, his brother was one of the greatest of ALL time!! Maybe even the greatest Thoroughbred racehorse EVER!!!!!

I am SO excited!!! You can tell just by looking at him as a baby of just a few weeks old that he's already even better than his big brother!! He looks smart and REALLY fast, and has that look in his eyes that just screams greatness!! He totally knows he's great already!!!!!

I hope they name him Curlin's Brother, then it will mean that much more when he does it all for Curlin!!

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

NonsenseIsAsNonsenseDoes 10 May 2009 11:14 AM

I really don't think that they are going to name this baby after Curlin.  And on this blog, Barbaro is the best TB ever.  WOW.  I can't believe what I just read.

stardust aka rose 10 May 2009 11:44 AM

Thanks for the wonderful video! He is a happy boy! It will be fun to watch when this colt and Curlin's brother go to the track during the same season. May they both remain healthy!

Karen in Texas 10 May 2009 11:46 AM

Beautiful baby... glad to see you healthy and happy! Thank you soooo much for the video! It's made my day! Happy Mother's Day LVR!  You're the best!

nannie284 10 May 2009 12:14 PM

Thank you Amanda, and Headley Bell, for your generousity in sharing LVR and Babynor! And the Jacksons too!

The colt is incredible looking, with a personality to match!

horsenut23 10 May 2009 12:18 PM

Nonsenseis - What a way to start my day! Hysterical! OMG, I can't stop laughing!

TomF 10 May 2009 12:22 PM

Great treat today to log on and see the video of Babynor and mom on this Mother's Day Sunday.  Lord he is big and is going to be a heart breaker in his own rights. Thanks to Mill Ridge for the comentary and Bloodhorse for the video.  Now the wait to see if mom is in foal again and see if we have our girl coming.  Thanks so much for posting excerpts for our three boys.

lobieb 10 May 2009 12:25 PM

Thanks again Amanda for the great video of La Ville Rouge and her new baby.

And thank you Nonsense for mentioning Curlin's new full brother who was born on April 29th, 2009. He is indeed adorable.

You are right about one thing, if the new B.B. and Curlin mature quickly enough and are good enough, the 2012 may be a very interesting contest.

But Nonsense, I reiterate, don't get your hopes up about Curlin's brother. He may not be good enough or he may not mature quickly enough to be in the 2012 Triple Crown. And I fully expect Babynor to be in the running in 2012.

Yes, my 2009 Triple Crown hopes for  Nicanor and the Jacksons were dashed, dashed I tell you by Nicanor not maturing quickly enough. (I just love mellowdrama.) I do look forward to the 2009 Breeder's Cup though.

Disclaimer: I am being partly sarcastic and partly serious here.

Thanks Amanda for having this blog.

Kathy 10 May 2009 12:30 PM

Personal opinion here.  I don't believe that this blog is about Curlin.  Doesn't he have one somewhere else?  Believe it or not, some of us don't care about Curlin.  That is why we are here on "Tracking Barbaro's Brothers" blog.  Please let's keep things in the family.  :)  Thanks.

rose 10 May 2009 12:44 PM

Curlin's brother born on the same day of the month as Barbaro.Maybe a battle for the Triple Crown between him and Barbaro's new brother,I would have to go with him.The video is great appreciate all the updates on the family.

Tracy 10 May 2009 12:48 PM

Nice gift for mother's day.

Can't wait for Nic's next race , he will win and we can all make a lot of money.Have confidence he'll break his maiden status.

The Phantom 10 May 2009 12:55 PM

what a wonderful Mther's Day Gift!  Thank you, Amanda, and by the way you are so young.,..and pretty.  Nice to start the day, with all of you!

Marigold 10 May 2009 1:09 PM

Thank you soo much Amanda. He is sooo amazing and INSTANTLY brought a smile to my face, idk how long its been since ive truly had an instant feeling of happiness. This REALLY made my day!!!! Hes going to be a tremendous boy! La Ville Rouge (Happy Mothers Day) and Dynaformer, you both are such amazing horses... this line of family will be published in a book one day, I hope I live to read it!

And for the one that is talking about Curlin and his bro, thats great news, you know we all love Curlin, but this is BARBAROS page and I know we all have our favorites but come on... Also you know from the line of brothers we have here with LVR and Dynaformer, it doesn't really matter who is whose brother, theres never going to be another "Curlin" or another "Barbaro" no matter how much we want it to happen.. those horses went down in history, reason being, it is so hard to accomplish the tasks they have accomplished. All we can do is hope for another 'star' but no one horse can replace the ones who have come by thus far. Godspeed the new ones.

Rachel of AZ 10 May 2009 2:47 PM

Yes indeed Babynor is a beauty. How great to see this video on Mother's Day and LVR is beautiful too. And what a great Mommy! I just adore Barbaro and all 3 of his wonderful little brothers. I also love Curlin - he's got a special place in my heart too and his brother is adorable. But this is Babynor's time to shine in his video and boy does he shine - He's stunning.  Thank you so much for providing this great video.

Ida Lee 10 May 2009 2:54 PM

Amanda, you really did one super job, thank you!!

The audio was really great by Mr.H.Bell and thought provoking. It made me realize what a jerk I was in wanting information before it was time, for this my most heartfelt appology....

Ragsy 10 May 2009 2:58 PM

Absolutely wonderful video (as is the one with Curlin's little brother).  A perfect Mother's Day gift!

whitenoise 10 May 2009 3:54 PM

Amanda,

It was good to see you in the video!  Thank you so much for all you have done on this blog.

Also, Nicanor is entered to run this Weds.  Two turns, on the turf, with blinkers.  Go Nicanor

Dear TomF,

Thank you for being the only one to "get it".

TOO funny!!!!

The rest of you, ....Too unreal for words, LOL!!

Oh and "rose"...I may come here every day now and post something about Curlin and his family...just because *smiles* After all, that foal will OBVIOUSLY be beating LVR's foal in all the huge races in 2012 and beyond!

NoneseneIsAsNonsenseDoes 10 May 2009 4:55 PM

This video is priceless!!!  The Jackson's have been very gracious to allow Mill Ridge to share this charming colt and his beautiful mom with us. He has been through so much in his young life already and has put it all behind him and is truly in the moment, as it should be.  He is one very, very special colt and I'm thrilled beyond belief to be able to see him at this time in his life.  Thank you so much!

nickerspoodle 10 May 2009 5:05 PM

Our boy is running at Delaware on 5/13 in the 6th race #10.  Go Nicky Knocks, you might know I have to work and won't know how he did until I get home.  Geeeze

lobieb 10 May 2009 5:23 PM

Thank you Amanda for such a wonderful Mother's Day gift. It is great to see them both so happy and healthy.

Cassidy 10 May 2009 5:42 PM

Rags To Riches filly. Curlin brother. And Barbaro's brother. All born in teh same year around the same time. That's going to be the best crop of 2 year olds and 3 year olds and on! Wow. He looks amazing and he's so cute!!! Happy mothers day LVR!!!

What a wonderful Mom's Day surprise.  My two children and the grands just left and I thought I'd check on my favorite horse family.  What a doll you are Babynor and what a beautiful Mom you have to be thankful for.  Thanks M/M Jackson and Amanda for the wonderful video.

Bonnie3 10 May 2009 6:19 PM

Oh my gosh! I am in love all over again! Thank you for the pictures and video.

CLee 10 May 2009 6:20 PM

awesome video, can't help to compare the two newly released videos this week though, got to say that baby Curlin looks more the type to be an actual runner.  wish we could say the same for all these barbaro brothers, but i guess only time will tell.

GO CURLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Curlin's Full Brother 10 May 2009 6:20 PM

Amanda, you have made my day!  Thank you very much for the video and please spread the message to Mill Ridge, the Jacksons and Bloodhorse how much we appreciate this chance to watch Barbaro's family grow.  The new colt and LVR are absolutely beautiful and may I also say, you are too.  Thanks!!

txbarbfan 10 May 2009 6:46 PM

Oh my...he has personality plus. He is just adorable. Amanda I envy you getting to pet him. But we do thank you, Amanda (Bloodhorse), Mill Ridge Farm, the Jackson's and Mr. Bell for this video. The FOB's will always be indebted to you all for accepting our love and concern for all these beautiful horses, LVR included. Of couse we put the horses first. They are our first concern. We are sooo lucky to have such wonderful people who will put up with our crazyness when it comes to Barbaro's brothers.

Can't wait to get to kentucky in June to see Barbaro's statue. It will be a thrill of a lifetime. Thanks again all.

Greg J, is Nicanor still racing on Tuesday (12th)? keep us posted.

Amanda I forgot to tell you that I too think that you are very pretty.  What were you saying to the little big guy over there? :)

Greg J.

Do you have a exacta for Nicanor's race?  AND what about the Preakness.  hint hint. :)

Ragsy.

Isn't he the cutest thing you ever saw.  Really looks like Barbaro when he was a foal.

See the Barbaro family is quite different.  They treat their horses like family.  That is rare.

I love Rags little one.  She is so cute.

Thanks Mill Ridge for all of your hard work.  AND Thanks to the Jackson's as well as the entire team.

rose 11 May 2009 10:04 AM

stardust here.  I just started going by my real name. Just so your not confused.  LOL  Now the exotic wagers please.  :)  Hope you are having a good day.

rose 11 May 2009 10:17 AM

Thank you, Amanda, Headley and those who made the video available.  Now that I know about the infection I see another reason, besides foaling season, we did not see much of LVR & Babynor.  He is a beauty and seems to have very long legs!  Good luck, Nicanor.  I think you will like Rosie N.

bowlofflowers 11 May 2009 10:23 AM

Amanda, thank you for the pictures as well as the video - what a elegant presence LaVille Rouge is and what a great mom.  As far as babynor, he is just full of "it" you can tell that even from the pictures, but the video - how great!  He's going to be a strong boy - now we can just watch him grow.

Greg J - thank you for all the information you provide, I for one appreciate all the information you are able to provide.  I can't make the drive from MA during the week but I think my brother may go from Phila to watch him race.  Thank you also for the info on the jockey - I'm glad it is a female, I think she'll be good for him - blinkers - I don't know, I'm not really sold on them - but that's okay - we need to see what he'll do now.  Can't wait to see the pictures you post from the race - will you provide a link?

Again, a hugh thank you to Amanda, Mill Ridge, The Jacksons and to you Greg J.

Barb C 11 May 2009 10:23 AM

Greg J --

What time is the 6th race at Delaware Park?  Am working on schedule adjustments to head on there too...

Also, loved the video of the amazingly gorgeous, La Ville Rouge, and that muscle boy "Babynor."  Headley Bell seems to appreciate him so much, and of course the beautiful, classy dam. Lovely comments from Headley about all who assist, the Jacksons, Mill Ridge and of course FOB's.

I think our boy Lentenor, ever so quiet in the wings, is probably going to burst forth with some real talent.  Can't wait to hear about him.

Karen, PA 11 May 2009 10:35 AM

I am so happy to hear that Nicanor will be wearing blinkers.  I said this a long time ago.

Mary 11 May 2009 10:59 AM

Thank you for taking the time to post the video and keep the updates coming. We really do enjoy all new news concerning Barbaro's siblings!

SQ 11 May 2009 11:01 AM

Yippeeeeeee!!  I am so excited to learn about Nicanor's start on the turf!  Sorry about the exclamation points, but I'm very happy. :)  I was hoping he would be making a turf start soon and learn about the business of winning.  It will be a great race.  I hope they will show it on HRTV.  Thanks again, Amanda - you are so awesome!

txbarbfan 11 May 2009 11:09 AM

Someone said earlier in here when Nicanor races at Delaware Park he would be going against weaker horses.they better look again. this race is 3yr old and up He better bring his A game if he wants to beat Irish Blarney(Graham Motion) and Get A Lawyer.

Soto 11 May 2009 11:18 AM

Happy Mother's Day, LVR.

horsenut4ever 11 May 2009 11:18 AM

rose, it's a darn good thing (and a surprising thing) you're not being sued. Nicanor's three races he's been on Lasix and Bute. Do you know what those are? Lasix is used to prevent bleeding from the lungs. If a horse has never bled in a race, why use it? The answer is...because they can. Bute is a pain killer. It is used so horses run through pain. Isn't that great?? Nicanor won't even know to stop if something hurts!! FANTASTIC!!!!

Lasix and Bute are legal, but just becausde you CAN do something, doesn't mean you SHOULD. The reason they're given automatically on first-time starters who have given no indication of "requiring" either, is because both DO give an edge, and--this may shock you--ALL trainers are out to win and make money. They don't want to be at a disadvantage to the rest of the field, who are on Lasix and Bute.

You're so right, the "Barbaro family" is SO MUCH better cared for than everyone else!! Now..if they could only get them to win against cheap horses.

He'll lose Wednesday, too. Enjoy!

If every horse race fan was like you Stardust/Rose/Whoever you are, there'd be no one to educate the new people. Thank God for you!!!!

:::EYEROLL:::

NonsenseIsAsNonsenseDoes 11 May 2009 11:25 AM

Nonsense

The brothers of Barbaro don't need to win one single race to capture the hearts of thousands.  :)  NO other horses have done that. Most of us are here because we love these horses.  Most of us just love them for who they are.  They could come in dead last and we would still all love them.  The Fans of Barbaro are huge and they have done so much for the horses.  Would you like the link so you can donate to the Barbaro Fund? I  think that 29 bucks would be about right.  That is what a lot of us do.  :)

rose 11 May 2009 11:48 AM

KAREN,PA:

Nicanor's race is at or around 3:30 p.m., I am leaving CT. around 4:00 a.m.(To beat the N.Y. Traffic, I hope!, lol)

BARB C.,

     Thank You, I try...

SOTO,

The people who say Delaware Park is for weaker horses, Honestly, Have no clue what they are talking about, Just look at the Pedigree's of the horses in this field, Quite impressive, Look at the Trainers and Owners, Ditto...I believe these people are just covering there butts, Just in case Nicanor wins, then they can say he beat a bunch of nobody's, and on the other end of the spectrum, If he doesn't win, Then you will here them say, over and over, That He can't even beat a weak field, Either way, All true fans of Barbaro and his brothers would be better off just to ignore these people ... It really (as I have found out), doesn't do you any good to respond to them, No matter what you say, it just feeds into there ignorance...

Stardusy(Rose):

Hello there!, Hope everything is well, I have really no clue on Nicanor's race yet, It really has the potential to be a great race(I am glad there is no Kent Desormeaux in the race though, lol).  Larry Jones/G. Saez have Whistlejacket, ROM has a impressive pedigree(Secratariat/Mr. Prospector), Tim Wooley(From barbaro fame) has "King Congaree", Still looking at other horses....

I cannot wait though, I think the Blinkers are a huge asset for him, and the more I read about his Jockey, "Rosie", the more I am impressed, The Turf is a wildcard, but it is in his blood...Also, The weather should be perfect Wednesday, Sunny and around 68 degrees....

Greg J. 11 May 2009 12:05 PM

Very excited for Nicanor's race this week...I will be checking the site for the result often that day.  Thank you so much for the updates Amanda.

Thank you Greg for all the info about the other horses and the new jockey, I appreciate you taking to time to help us all learn more :)

Cassidy 11 May 2009 12:11 PM

Greg J,

see you there !

Rose,

nicely controlled response.  There is much that has to be fixed or advanced in horseracing, but I think what's nice about this blog is that we do get some additional information that allows us to research, learn, and AS YOU WELL POINTED OUT, donate to causes that help horse welfare.  Yes, if everyone put their $$ commitment where their mouths were . . .  I suggest Rose that you continue not rising to the bait.

Nonsense -- why not donate and offer something more? Just a thought since you seem to know so much.

I reiterate something I said before, every track level in horseracing deserves excitement and participation -- whether stakes or not so!  Whatever helps advance the sport, from wagering, love and commitment, to donating and participating.

Amanda D !!

Forgot to say how nice you were in the video -- thanks so much again.  Keep 'em coming !!!

Karen, PA 11 May 2009 12:35 PM

Nice to see you aduckworth. I was pretty sure that was you an the other video. aren't you the lucky pup, getting to pet the baby. He's awesome. Thanks for a great job and thanks to Headley Bell for his taking the time to be there for us. We appreciate it very much.

Loved when the baby kicked up his heels and nudged his mother. She very kindly let him know it's okay to play but remember I'm your mother. lol    Wonderful stuff.

Amanda many thanks to you again....Those brothers of Barbaro are really beautiful and loved.....Curlin is my fella also, really love him Nonsense.....rose so very cool.....Rachel Alexander  will run ahead of the boys......if they are not afraid of her!!!!!

Good Luck on the sixteenth of May Nicanor !!!

You can do it!!!

Kathy 11 May 2009 12:50 PM

I'm anxious to see Nicanor race again. Can't wait till Wednesday. Hope HRTV carries Delaware Park, if not I will go to the local OTB to see him race. Looking forward to a win for our boy. Also video of his baby brother and mama LaVille were wonderful to see. The little guy will be a colt to be reconded with when he grows up.

DONNA 11 May 2009 12:53 PM

Rose:

You once again arbitrarily (and erroneously) proclaim that NO horse(s) have captured "thousands" of hearts of racing fans?

Seriously?

Have you looked beyond 2006? Ever?

That's a rhetorical question.

One day, should you ever expand your horizons (which I fully realize is completely unlikely), and look into horse racing's history, you might feel just a LITTLE sheepish that you kn ew so little to make such ridiculous statements. If you don't feel it, you should, anyway.

But, in the meantime...GO CURLIN'S BROTHER! :-)

NonsenseIsAsNonsenseDoes 11 May 2009 12:55 PM

Greg J.  OK I'll be on standby LOL for the exotics.  I just have fun with this.  We probably shouldn't talk about the Preakness on this blog.  I wonder about that race.  That day.  :)  We soon shall see.  They are not working Mine That Bird until the race.  Did you hear about that?  :)

rose 11 May 2009 12:57 PM

Greg J.  Wouldn't that be cool if  Nicanor won with Rosie?  That is my name.  :) We shall see.  I do agree about the blinkers.  I think LOL.  I think the turf is going to be the biggest thing.

rose 11 May 2009 12:59 PM

By the way, Rose...what's the number 29 in reference to? The amount of races it will take Nicanor to break his maiden?

Sounds about right.

But I know, I know...you love him even if he finishes "dead last" (your words). Bad choice of words, though, don't you think?

GO CURLIN'S BROTHER!!!

NonsenseIsAsNonsenseDoes 11 May 2009 1:02 PM

Greg J.  I like that name StardusyRose.  Hahahahahahahaha I am changing it.  LOL.........

I'll add the T LOL!

StardustyRose 11 May 2009 1:06 PM

If he doesn't win this, he needs to retire to Minnesota to stand for $500.

Patheticly weak field with the exception of Whistlejacket who will probably beat Nicanor by 6+ lengths.

yawn 11 May 2009 1:22 PM

just would like to say that is one gorgeous baby boy! Looks very big and healthy--may he make it to the track and do the Jackson's proud, no matter what level he races at.

As for Nonsense, seriously, go be a pain somewhere else.  You know this blog is aimed at Barbaro, so if you feel that Curlin's brother is better, then find a blogging website like blogspot or something and take it there.  Leave us to enjoy this family while you enjoy yours.  Enough said....

Kayte 11 May 2009 1:28 PM

wow thats COLD. 'dont need negative comments

Anna 11 May 2009 1:44 PM

Poor Lentenor, in the shadow of his two older brothers and now in the shadow of his adorable baby brother, too.  But, No Worries -- Lentenor is going to shock all you negative naysayers with his ability.  Maybe then you'll finally be quiet and go away.

Marigold 11 May 2009 1:52 PM

Greg, thanks for the bio of Nicanor's rider for Wednesday's race.  She seems like a good choice for that track.  Interesting that they will try him on the turf.  We've had quite a bit of rain in the East but things are drying out now.  I am looking forward to this next race too.

GreyK 11 May 2009 2:01 PM

Stardust,

Exacta Box :Nicanor/Whistlejacket

And would love for Tim Wooley to get King Congaree(The great Congaree is his father) on the board....

As far as Preakness,

Rachel Alexandra should win(But I still think all of the changes regarding her,(Barn, Owner, Trainer) could affect her. So, I would look at RA, Big Drama, POTN, Friesan Fire(If he runs).  But, Deep down, Wouldn't it be great if the little gelding(Mine that Bird with Mike Smith Now) could pull it off????

Karen, PA.,

See you there, Should be great to see Nicanor's first win(I hope) in person!

Greg J. 11 May 2009 2:36 PM

Oh dear, poor Nonsense.  If you had been involved with this story for longer than, oh say 2008 / 2009(?) you would have known that 29, rather $29, is the amount of money donated by FOB regularly to the Barbaro Fund, Laminitis Research Fund, or other horse support funds in honor of the day or birth and death of Barbaro.  Just so you know, I have been doing that either once or twice a month to those funds since Barbaro's passing.

And since the FOB's assert love for ALL horses, past and present, and take action to better the lives of racehorses as well as any average horse that needs to be saved from a dinner table (you know, the FOB's have saved a few and found new homes for them), well I'd say Rose or anyone showing adoration for Barbaro and his family is metaphorically showing a love for all.  Well, metaphorically and actually, I guess.

So looks like someone else has to drop the barracuda-like nonsense and do some research -- or at least show a little more of a civilized attitude.  Everyone just doesn't know everything;  but a lot of them know a lot of Nonsense, right big guy, or gal??

Karen, PA 11 May 2009 2:58 PM

I'm happy to see that he will have blinkers on for this race.  He seems to be a horse who gets easily distracted and intimidated when passed.  Hopefully the blinkers will keep him focused, as well as help him not be bothered by horses approaching him.

Rechelle 11 May 2009 3:06 PM

What a wonderful colt! He is so lovely and playful! I will be watching Nicanor's race as a replay this time. Good luck Nicanor!

anniedixie65 11 May 2009 3:07 PM

Greg J.

Really appreciate all the insights and information you provide.  I'll be at the track Wednesday (my drive is only @ 1 hour) Hope to see you there (nametag?)

Nonsense,

Taking nothing awar from Curlin, a champion to be sure - but greatest TB of ALL TIME?  Guess you never heard of Phar Lap??

How about Man O' War, Dr. Fager, Spectacular Bid - any of those ring a bell?

Del Valley Bob 11 May 2009 3:53 PM

I'll have a nice fat  profit after the race. He's a lock against this field. Will play combo's along with straight across. This is a golden  opportunity to make easy dough.Come on now have confidence fans -right Greg ?Is TVG or HRTV picking up Delaware races?

The Phantom 11 May 2009 4:20 PM

I can't believe that people would come on a site that is for the followers of Barbaro's family and make comments about them so negitively!! We all love this family and that is why we are here, go somewhere else and try to cause trouble....

Berner05 11 May 2009 4:38 PM

FYI,

Nicanor has been listed as the 5-2 Morning Line Favorite, Whistlejacket 4-1, Rom 8-1, Forest Lord 8-1, Mr. Vanderbilt 6-1, Supreme Day 10-1, Get a Lawyer 12-1, Irish Blarney 12-1, King Congaree 15-1, Today's Man 15-1, Ready Rumble 20-1, Y'er Man, Silver Tie Affair, Amigo Mio all 20-1....

Del Valley Bob,

Thanks, Also, I am jealous, My drive will probably take 5 hours(I hope!) from Bristol, Connecticut....

Greg J. 11 May 2009 4:46 PM

What a stunning foal - I can only hope our mare produces such a lovely baby within the next few weeks! Its been a while since we've had a foal around here xD

Thanks for all you do, Amanda - its great to check up on the LVR/Dynaformer family every once and a while.

And way to go, Nonsense, for spamming in the most annoying - and rude - fashion possible. Why not go start your own Curlin blog and let the Barbaro fans get back to their own?

PilotMal 11 May 2009 4:49 PM

Lastly,

Mr. Matz has "Princess Haya" going on the same day in race #9, Riden by Same Jockey as Nicanor, "Rosie" (So, It seems she rides other Matz trained horses!).  Princess is a four year old filly, Owned by Eileen H. Hartis, She is also the favorite in the race(7 Starts, 2 Wins, 2 Shows)...

Good Luck to All!!!

Greg J. 11 May 2009 4:53 PM

Rags To Riches' filly, Curlin's full brother, AND Barbaro's full brother...

...Can't wait 'til 2012

Nakayama 11 May 2009 5:07 PM

Greg J and Del Valley Bob;

I'm jealous you guys get to see Nic run! Have fun!

Go Nic!  Rosie, bring him home safe and into the winner's circle!

horsenut23 11 May 2009 5:09 PM

Greg J.  Thanks for the wagers.  I think that I'll put all three in a box.  I'll keep your picks in serious mind for the Preakness too. :)

As for Curlin.  I have bet against him twice and won twice.  Not a bad check either.  Doesn't he have a blog?  Lord a horse that is famous must have one right? I can't seem to find one anywhere.  Nothing against Curlin cause I do like that horse but there aint no blog on him that I can see. :)

StardustyRose 11 May 2009 5:13 PM

I don't want to read into anything over a few seconds of footage but I noticed something I wanted to ask Amanda or any of the more experienced horsepeople here about.  Somewhere around 3:40-3:45 the foal grabs the top of the fence while being petted and getting his attention.  I assume he's just messing around but how old does something like cribbing typically develop?  It looks like he's just lipping it but it made me wonder about young horses in general.

Kate 11 May 2009 5:14 PM

Sounds like a sucker maiden bet ,good luck betting him , now on turf with a new jockey. Hardy har har har get the shreddar ready.Maiden favorites are a jinx.

2 time valley player of the year 11 May 2009 5:17 PM

Karen, PA

I will keep on helping the horses no matter what anyone says.  Barbaro has a pretty strong voice and that is the one I listen to.  :)

StardustyRose 11 May 2009 5:21 PM

Thank you for the info! I am wishing Nicanor and Team Nicanor all the very best for success and a safe trip! Also, great news on Nicanor's baby brother. He is very cute and seems to have quite a large mark on his forehead.

Mattie W. 11 May 2009 5:31 PM

HRTV is showing the races from Delaware Park.He looks like a winner , should love the turf.

Bear Claw 11 May 2009 5:59 PM

Del Valley Bob, love that you mentioned Phar Lap!  He was amazing and will always have a special place in my heart.

Cassidy 11 May 2009 6:41 PM

Donna, HRTV is going to carry the Delaware Race. They advertise it at 3 pm and 4 pm ET and he is in the 3:30 race and they said at 5 PM they will show the post positions for the Preakness.

The Baby is beautiful and the video is fantastic and he looks like he is a people lover like Barbaro was.

I was very happy to see the video today.

Nonsenseis.....thats what you talk. I am not saying Curlin is not a good horse but go post on his blog instead of knocking all of us who love the Barbaro family.

BigMommaLovesHorses 11 May 2009 7:05 PM

another cutie pie. the foals are the best thing about spring. hope he stays healthy and grows up strong like his brothers.

christy tate 11 May 2009 7:18 PM

The foal is super looking and that Lentenor was sneaked in under the radar, gotta look at that!  may be he is really one that will show all!!

Hay, Mr. Phantom I agree withcha!!!betcha it is HRTV????

Ragsy 11 May 2009 8:05 PM

Any news on what the new foal of '09 might be named?

Rodney 11 May 2009 10:01 PM

Just watched the video of Babynor.  What a great spirit he has.  He is so full of life and what a patient mother LVR is. She is one beautiful mare.  Good luck to Nicanor, I am sending good thoughts your way.

Penny in Texas 11 May 2009 10:47 PM

I am so tempted to call out sick and hop over to DE Park to see Nicky run. I like that he's on turf, and I like that the blinkers are on. Let's see how this goes!

ElonGrad97 12 May 2009 8:27 AM

Kate - In this case, he was just messing around, not cribbing. But here are several intersting articles on cribbing from our sister publication The Horse (registration is free). The first is about how young it can start, the second is more just general information:

We all know how much Barbaro is loved and his brothers are loved.  I recall in the vid it being mentioned that everyone was aware that this little baby was loved before he was born or something like that.

Greg J.  Have a safe trip tomorrow.  I'll take your exotics and throw MM's horse in there as well.  Good luck too.  Hey if you hit tomorrow and I hit then do you want to match me on $29 for the Barbaro Fund?  :)

Rodney...  The foal will be named when the Jackson's decide to name  him :) Prolly pretty soon.

Ragsy.  Hey.  The love birds are almost at their wedding day.  You ready for your trail ride on Rags2Riches.  Oh yeah and Greg you too.  Won't that be fun.  :)

Lastly Amanda thankyou for putting up with all of the posts that are negative toward these horses.  I imagine that it gets tireing having to sift through them.  Just imagine people what the folks at Bloodhorse and the Barbaro Nation think when they read those.  AND they do prolly read those.  Like aaaaaaaaaaahhhhh the Jackson's?  I am so sorry that you guys have to be subjected to such nonsense :)  Most of us love Barbaro and all the family and that is all that matters.

StardustyRose 12 May 2009 9:46 AM

Greg J.

5 HOURS!!!!!!!  I am getting ready to go on a trip too and I hate driving that long.  That is one way right?  Why don't you fly and rent a car?  Cheaper isn't it? :)

StardustyRose 12 May 2009 9:57 AM

Maybe our Nicanor will be a Turf King!

Run well for us Nikki!

AREM 12 May 2009 10:37 AM

I am one of the lucky ones when it comes to Nicanor racing at Delaware Park, I only live 40 minutes from there and will get to see him run too. I am only 20 minutes from where he lives at Fair Hill, I feel really lucky right now!

Berner05 12 May 2009 10:38 AM

FYI,

Yesterday, Mr. Matz had "Encanto" with Nicanor's new Jockey, "Rosie", come in second in race #9, So, Congrats to him, He came in second to??, A Larry Jones trained horse named "It happened Again" with G.Saez on board, So congrats to them. Hopefully, The tables will turn on Wednesday and Nicanor/Rosie will take Whistlejacket/Saez !!!

Stardust,

Yeah I am driving, I don't mind the 4/5 hour one way trip, I thought about flying, but should be an OK drive, minus the traffic in NY and the tolls(Ugh), Nicanor better not get scratched....

Watch out for Friesan Fire Saturday, He is going to shock the world!(Worked a blazing 58 2/5 for 5 F), Beat Papa Clem's Work by 24 lengths....clicked off fractions of :12, :23.60, :35, and :46.80 before completing five furlongs under the finish line in :58.40.

Jones said he is sound and perfect for Saturday...Jones said about his slight injury,"“If you didn’t know he had had a problem, then you wouldn’t know he had a problem.” “The main thing is that he’s sound and ready to go.”

I bet Fire will go off at 10-1, The underdog roll is perfect for him, No pressure, Rachel Alexandra better be looking in her rear view mirror, lol....

A Nicanor/Fire double would be Incredible, Bottom Line, Though, is for both to have safe trips.....

Greg J. 12 May 2009 11:07 AM

Stardusty Rose:

Yep, thats sounds just so good when do we start????

My GSD ( show dog )developed a chronic illness and it really is killing me.....no more shows or working for him, its ******* bad....

Go Nicanor!!! and ( Rachel Alexander )

Ragsy 12 May 2009 11:20 AM

Berner05

You are 40 minutes from Fairhill?  That would be nice.  You will be able to see all of the brothers. :)  Lucky YOU!   Have fun at the races tomorrow and good luck if you wager.  Let the horses all come home on 4 healthy and sound legs.

Greg J.  Question for you.  The drug they use to stop the bleeding in the lungs.  Lasix or however that is spelled.  Do you feel that it is OK to run a horse that hard?  I would think that if MY lungs started bleeding in MY sport, I would stop right away.  Isn't that a serious health hazard?  And another question.  FF has never wond a grade I race.  OK what is he 4 from 8?  That does not impress me.  Doesn't Mine That Bird have just as many wins?  :)  And we must remember that the good jockeys are very important here.  Would YOU put GS on your horse again? I don't think I would.  I just don't know.  Mixed feelings here and since I truly believe in you, I feel that you have not only the wisdom but the good heart to know what is and is not best.   :)

StardustyRose 12 May 2009 11:26 AM

All -  A friendly reminder that while of course it is okay for a little bit of Preakness talk to pop up here, if you are looking for indepth discussions about its contenders, please visit the Triple Crown Blog. That is a much more appropriate place for it. Thank you. Here is the link:

cs.bloodhorse.com/.../rachel-alexandra-excluded-from-preakness-it-could-happen.aspx

aduckworth 12 May 2009 11:32 AM

Ragsy...

Is he going to need surgery?  My dog just had it a couple of weeks ago and she still needs her stitches out but she is OK.  How bad is this :(

We will all leave on the trail ride after we get the Love Doves off after the wedding.  Greg aren't you on Chelokee?  I am going to have to do some up-dates.  Do I DARE put that wedding over here LOL.  Anyway Ragsy your dog can go on the trail ride too.  Rags is really exicited about taking you all over the northern continent. :)  She told me that not long ago.

StardustyRose 12 May 2009 11:45 AM

StardustyRose - Given how long your wedding plans are, I would kindly request you keep them in the post they started in. Thank you.

aduckworth 12 May 2009 11:47 AM

Trainers here in the US, use Lasix on almost all Thoroughbreds  because of the Speed that is bred into them. The horses are running at Top Speed, shortly after leaving the starting gate. The good horses are scooped after Workout or race & if there is even a drop or two of blood, Lasix from then on, during the rest of his/her career.

In contrast, Lasix is not allowed in Runners in Europe & many other countries. Most other drugs are not allowed either. Fewer horses brake down in Europe as they build up their speed slowly & usually run the fastest the last 1/4 mile.

I just purchased a share in a promising 2 yr old. The reason was good breeding, & I was told by the Trainer that this Colt would be a 2 turn horse & that he was very intelligent, was a quick learner, & he moved very nicely. I'm going up to Keeneland to watch him Train for several mornings.

I do believe that Nicanor will run a BIG race tomorrow & Win easy. We will see.

Clearwater Charlie 12 May 2009 11:55 AM

Stardusty Rose:

He cant walk very well for a 2 year old he is sidelined and I will have some decisions to make pretty soon... Paralysis is one of the major side effects....Amanda is sure right.....

Ragsy 12 May 2009 12:03 PM

OK Amanda. I was just gonna put them up.  Glad I caught that.  Actually I was going to put "it is your call" on the top of the message.  :)

StardustyRose 12 May 2009 12:09 PM

Stardust,

IMO, No, I don't like Lasix, Never did, Never will, BUT I believe, at least 90 percent of the horses here in America use it.  Nature didn't intend for horses to be competing on drugs. If they have problems, bleeding or otherwise, the proper treatment is rest. But Breeding is a huge part also, The emphasis today is on breeding speedy, precocious horses, the type that tend to flame out early. No one seems to want to breed a solid classic horse anymore, one who won't hit its stride until turning four years old.  Lasix may be a quick fix, but they do more harm than good in the long run. Every piece of evidence suggests that horses with problems who are pumped full of drugs will implode sooner rather than later.

But, Sadly, It has become part of this sport, If a trainer opted not to use it, then that horse would never be able to compete against the horses that were on it.  It has become a vicious circle, but, One can only hope, That it will banned all together one day...

Back in the 90's, There was talk of banning it all together(anti-Lasix faction), but that ended quickly, since then, Lasix, now is as common as can be, Sad...

Amanda,

Question for you, Somebody stated that Nicanor was on Bute in all of his races, I disagree, but am not sure, Do you happen to know?, Thanks, And sorry, No more Preakness talk(GO FIRE!, Sorry, Couldn't resist, lol), I will go to Jason's Blog for that.....

Greg J. 12 May 2009 12:16 PM

Greg J,

Sorry about that, hope your drive is smooth.  If you haven't been to Delaware Park before I think you'll enjoy it.  5/2 Eh? Be nice to get those odds tomorrow.....

Horsenut23,

Yeah it's nice that it looks like he'll be running at Delaware for a while.  Hoping he's there in mid July and running in the Barbaro!

Del Valley Bob 12 May 2009 12:18 PM

Clearwater Charlie

Well that clears that up for me.  Thanks.  :)

StardustyRose 12 May 2009 12:19 PM

Cassidy,

To quote Charlie Whittingham "I never got to see Man O'War, but he'd have to be a helluva horse to be better than Phar Lap"

So who really KNOWS who the best of all time is, but it would be cool if one of Barbaro's brothers turns out to be even half as good as it looked like he was going to be....

Del Valley Bob 12 May 2009 12:32 PM

Stardustyrose,

Bleeding is a real problem in horses.  They have lungs that are so efficient at exchanging gases, that they also easily rupture little blood vessels in the lungs.  Human athletes also bleed in the lungs.  It is called Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage.

You check for bleeding by passing an endoscope down their nose and into their windpipe and look for traces of blood.  Unless you scope a horse, you really don't know if they have bled.  I would bet that almost all horses bleed at racing speed.  Bleeding isn't just a Thoroughbred problem--it is showing up in the endurance phases of 3-day eventing.

Episodes of bleeding will scar the lungs and eventually the horse will not be able to compete at the level it could before the lungs were damaged.

Lasix is a diuretic that seems to control bleeding.  They believe that it lowers the blood pressure in the arteries in the lungs.

It is not a drug without serious side effects.  Three weeks ago my own horse had a serious reaction to Lasiz given to him for the final breeze before his first start this year.  He ended up with arterial fibrillation, an arrhithmia and an extremely elevated heart rate.  We had him thoroughly checked out by a board-certified equine internist who put an EKG on him before he went out to train and immediately after he came in from a strong training two days after the incident.  He was perfect, and the cardio incident was attributed to having Lasix every five days for breezes and stripping the electrolytes out of his body.  The horse missed his first start of the year, but the most important thing is that he is fine.  He did start in his first race of the year a week later than we planned and had absolutely no problems.  Believe me, he was monitored very closely after he was given Lasix by the trainer and vet.  Now he gets IV electrolytes before his lowered dose of Lasix.

While it is true that the Lasix is not allowed in many places outside North America, those European runners who come to race in North America do run on Lasix.

JAJ 12 May 2009 12:42 PM

Clearwater Charlie,

Congratulations on the purchase of a share of your 2-year old colt!  Is this your first race horse?

Care to share his name and the breeding with the group?

JAJ 12 May 2009 12:46 PM

Greg J.

Thanks for the information on Lasix.  It is really too bad that the horses can't have a say in what is put into their body. I guess until it is outlawed by Congress (which it will be), we just have to have horses that are forced to run on it.  :(

StardustyRose 12 May 2009 1:06 PM

Ragsy.  I am so sorry about your dog.  I can't imagine how your feeling right now.  Sending you lots of hugs and prayers.  :)  Rags is crying too.  She is sad too.  She wants your dog to be OK.

StardustyRose 12 May 2009 1:21 PM

tommorrows your day nicky, run like the wind with spirit, our precious one! i hope it is televised in my area. love to you!

sandieh 12 May 2009 1:22 PM

Nonsense, good bye and good luck and take Phantom and Yawn and 2tvp with you when you go.

What do you all get out of ragging on us here?  Let's all just COMPLETELY ignore them and maybe they'll give up and go away.

Good Luck Nicanor.  We love you and are rooting for you tomorrow.

Saw a horse the other day, Speight the Halo, who is a 3yo and who took 5 attempts to break his Maiden, which he did impressively.  Good looking boy, too.

Marigold 12 May 2009 1:41 PM

Clearwater Charlie ,

Congrats on your purchase of your promising 2 yr old !!, I am Jealous...

JAJ,

Do you know if Nicanor was on Bute in his first three races?, I thought, maybe wrongly, that bute wasn't legal on east coast, but legal on west coast?, I could be wrong, though...Hope your Horse continues to be in good health...

Del Valley Bob,

I can't wait, No, Never been to Delaware Park, looking forward to being there, Should be beautiful weather, and of course, Seeing Nicanor break his maiden, And down the road(I hope) I can say that I was at Nicanor's first win, Which (I hope again) will be the start of many more to come, I honestly think Nicanor will surprise alot of people out there, it is funny, if you throw out his first race(Which I do), Having two close seconds for a late maturing horse is awesome, There is no looking back after tomorrow !!!

Greg J. 12 May 2009 1:42 PM

I wrote:

"Believe me, he was monitored very closely after he was given Lasix by the trainer and vet."

Just to clarify, my trainer DID NOT give the horse Lasix--the racing commission vet gave the Lasix.  My trainer and my horse's vet watched him like a hawk after he was given his half dose of Lasix.

Greg J, there are a lot of treatments for bleeders, but Lasix is probably the best and most reliable.

JAJ 12 May 2009 1:44 PM

To any going to Delaware Race Track tomorrow (Wednesday) to see Nicanor's race (around 3:30 PM), is there a location any bloggers would like to meet to greet each other and enjoy Nicanor together?

Might someone who knows the track best suggest a great location?

Thanks, all! And sincerely hope Nicanor shows he's a turf horse with blinders on !!!!!  May he break his maiden on the surface that's in his blood...

Karen, PA 12 May 2009 1:48 PM

LVR's new boy is one of the biggest, if not the biggest foal I've ever seen.  My name for him is MUSCLENOR!  It would be something to see him go up against Curlin's brother but as has been already mentioned here earlier, don't count (or bet) on it.  But here's to a long and happy life to them both and to all Barbaro's (and Curlin's future) family members!

KMustang 12 May 2009 2:25 PM

Karen, PA,,

Great Suggestion!, I have never been there, but whoever has name a place to meet, say, @ 2:30???

Greg J. 12 May 2009 2:33 PM

Marigold, you apparently forgot how to read especially what I wrote.I'm betting Nic that's no joke like you seem to think .Valley your missing the boat on this one, no shreddar needed I'll have winning tickets. He's going to win but some of you so called fans don't seem to believe that why not?

The Phantom 12 May 2009 2:40 PM

Greg J. -- Excellent time: 2:30 PM at ???

Berner05 -- you said you knew the track and were about 40 min away.  Any suggestions about good location to view race and meet?

Karen, PA 12 May 2009 2:54 PM

Well Mr. Phantom, I believe Nicanor will win. And I hope for your sake that he does. My nickname is Sunshine, (Short for Solar Flare), so when I surmise that no one has ever called you bubbly or perky, I just might be right.

As I am on the other side of the US from Delaware, I will have to rely on Internet access to this race. I plan on placing a bet.

And I fully expect Nicanor to win, but if he doesn't, I don't want any crayfish packets from anyone, (3 + 1.)

Go Nicanor...go, go, go. Wednesday will be your day.

Kathy 12 May 2009 3:14 PM

Greg J --

I suggest anyone who wants to meet goes to the location around the wagering window #8 at 2:30PM. If they are not numbered, count left to right.

Phantom -- I think it's YOU and your sincerity about which they are dubiious; not about Nicanor winning tomorrow.

Being there for Nicanor's first win will be a good feeling!

Karen, PA 12 May 2009 3:43 PM

If I can 'tip' a site here for race viewing, youbet.net (NOT com) allows free limited (not sure if it's time or # of races) streaming. Basically it's good for those of us who have a virtual stable going and just want to watch 1 or 2 races on a given day.

Tony Cheval 12 May 2009 3:43 PM

Marigold, so who put you in charge of the blog, you seem like a very jaded woman who always wants her way-I won't go away, and who cares about some horse named Speight the Halo what has that got to do with Nicanor? He'll need a lot of luck to win, maiden's disappoint and I would advise you bettors to stop by Staples they have shreddars on sale and those losing tickets will have to be destroyed unless you want to keep them as a souvenir as money thrown away.

Del Valley B, Parlap was a fantastic ironhorse but the greatest season for a horse was 1948 when Citation won the triple crown ran 20 times and won 19[16 in a row] with a second because of a rabbit  never took more then 3 weeks off he was a sensational racehorse,Curlin isn't even in the top 20.They had very opportunity to take him to Cal and run on pro ride surface long before Breeders cup classic but stayed in NY. that was dumb.

If Nicanor can't beat this bunch forgetabout it.

2 time valley player of the year 12 May 2009 4:00 PM

Karen, Greg, Berner,

It would be cool to all get together to watch Nicanor tomorrow.

How about maybe meeting in the Paddock @ 2:30 Shouldn't be too hard to run into each other.  I'll be wearing my 2007 Breeders Cup hat.

Del Valley Bob 12 May 2009 4:04 PM

valley, Nic is a lock case closed,I'm going to make hefty profit won't have any tickets to  shred they all will be cashed! Greg, I don't care what they think I'm going to make money on Nic winning the race they should bet him big.

The Phantom 12 May 2009 4:22 PM

Great for me. See you in the Paddock at 2:30 PM all !!!!!

Karen, PA 12 May 2009 4:29 PM

Greg J. 12 May 2009 5:18 PM

Greg J,

I seem to remember (but can't guarantee it) that Nicanor ran on Bute and Lasix.  I was surprised about the Bute.

In the past, Kentucky had the laxest of all drug rules.  I don't know if that has changed, but it will.

Stardustyrose,

Congress has no business deciding on the medication guidelines in the racing industry.

Believe me, there is change taking place, but let the industry sort it out using SCIENCE, not the emotion of someone in Congress--or a blogger--who is neither a vet, pharmacologist, trainer nor owner.

Steroids are gone.  Next should be race day Bute.  Where I race, you can't even ice a horse's legs before the state vet inspects it on race day.

Let the industry do its job and get the medication issues right.

It would help, too, if we didn't idolize some of the noted cheats in the industry.  Where I race, Steve Asmussen's horses are in race-day detention for every single start.  Race day detention amounts to a joke since all it means is they post a guard in his barn.  So, Asmussen gets his own personal guard for his barn courtesy of the track.

JAJ 12 May 2009 5:19 PM

He's beautiful. So strong and handsome already! Whether he races or not (of course he will race) I will love him because he's already so awesome. I love his personality and everything, its just an added bonus that he happens to be Barbaro's little brother. Can't wait to see him grow up into an amazing horse. Now to the person who wrote about Curlin: Yes, I think we are all aware of the fact that Curlin is a good racehorse, although I believe I can speak for all the bloggers on here that Barbaro is one of our favorites as well. And to me it doesn't matter if Barbaro's little brother(s) win many races at all I'm just glad that we have them out there. Their breeding is amazing as well and I love their parents! Good luck little Barbaro I can't wait till I can call him by his real name. :D

Alexis 12 May 2009 5:56 PM

I'm sure Nicanor will get his Air Power too.  Michael Matz endorses Air Power on their website. www.finishlinehorse.co.nz/AirPower.html

Of course when Jeff Mullins used Air Power everyone in the world screamed "Cheater" and "Drug Trainer".

But it's fine when Saint Michael uses it.

In Reality 12 May 2009 7:27 PM

Safe race and good luck to Nicanor

MJ 12 May 2009 9:09 PM

After the paddock meeting, you may want to get finish line, [nice paded seats]. There are about 450 seats, @ $5.00 each. Good view of Nicanor in the winners circle.

Don 13 May 2009 12:23 AM

stardust/rose --

Curlin won his Maiden first time out, the Rebel and Arkansas next time out.  Curlin was never out of the money in any Triple Crown race, which is being donned as one of the greatest crop of runners in a very long time, and won the Preakness.  Curlin went on to win the Jockey Club Gold Cup at 3 years old, and again at 4 years old, a feat that only 5-7 horses could replicate.  Same with Curlin's feat of winning back to back Horse Of The Year titles.  Curlin went to Dubai and won by the greatest margin in history, which was broke this year by Well Armed.  Curlin's first try on turf he ran second in the Man O' War to the 2006 Breeders Cup Champ.  The list of Curlin's accomplishments are longer than this, but Curlin will remain America's richest race horse for some time.

For your information, there was a website dedicated to Curlin that was taken down after he retired.  But what you fail to realize, which is a lot (I've seen your posts here and in other spots of the Bloodhorse site, quite embarrassing to Barbaro and Nicanor fans as a whole), where you come off as an ill-informed, bias, and uneducated about thoroughbreds, and its loyal fans of all race horses...is that there is more that meets the eye here.

So you just keep cheering on your Nicanor, be proud of his blogs that are most likely filled with a great deal of nonsense, and good deal of information.  And keep cheering for Nicanor to break his Maiden.  Because us Curlin fan's had two years of greatness that a blog would never provide due dilligence for.  We won on the track, that is all us Curlin race fans ever asked for.

In my humble you need to more reading and less posting for the sake of this blog, and others!

Please.

Curlin - Two Time Horse Of The Year 13 May 2009 1:06 AM

Valley Player,

Couldn't agree more about the 1948 campaign of Citation.  Wanted to let Nonsense know that he/she needed to look a bit deeper into history before anointing Curlin greatest ever.

Good Luck today Nicanor!!

Del Valley Bob 13 May 2009 7:04 AM

JAJ & others, who may be interested

I would rather not post names here as there are other partners. but you can go to Joan Scott Racing & view the Photo Gallery & the New Partnership Opportunity & see the 2 yr old Colt for yourself. I'm impressed with his Sire & his Dam. But its mainly his Looks, Walk, Confirmation, & his quickness to learn.

By the way, here in Florida, the trainer's Vet gives the Lasix shot, 4 hours prior to Postime.

I've got my fingers crossed for a big win for Nicanor today at Delaware. GO NIC GO...

Clearwater Charlie 13 May 2009 7:48 AM

In Reality - The reason Mullins was suspended had nothing to do with the product and everything do to with the fact he administered it on raceday, which is illegal in New York. Only Salix is allowed to be given on race day. Any other trainer would have been suspended as well if they had done the same.

aduckworth 13 May 2009 8:25 AM

Curlin.  I don't have anything against Curlin. I won a lot of money when I didn't bet on him and won money when I did.  I won more when I went against him.  As for my education in racing, I don't claim to have a lot.  I really don't like the sport that much.  I love horses. I love the Barbaro family but as far as racing?  Naaaaaaaaaaaa.  I just want the horses to be safe and sound.

Barbaro has been gone for over 2 years and his blogs are running pretty damn strong.  Curlin will be remembered but not nothing like Barbaro is.

Oh one last thing.  IF I want some education in racing, you will  NOT be on my list of people that I ask.   I don't trust a word you say and I don't believe that you know half of what comes out of your mouth/fingers.  I have plenty of people that I TRUST to ask questons to.  :)

As for Barbaro and the Brother's blogs.  They are pretty darn big and the Barbaro Nation is too.  Would you like the link to the Barabro Fund so you can join the rest of us and start donating for the horses?  Just let me know or ask Amanda.  It is really easy. IF you are old enough to have a CC or write a check, you can go and do it on line.  It is really simple to help the horses right from the comfort of your home.  Give it some thought OK?  It would be a wonderful thing for you to do. :)

StardustyRose 13 May 2009 9:20 AM

Oh yeah Curlin.  The Fans of Barbaro care about all horses.  A lot of them know nothing about racing and love these horses anyways BECAUSE of Barbaro. :)  Non-racing fans loving these horses is very very rare and it won't happen again.  The big Boss is the big Boss and there is nothing you can do or say to change the FACT!  :)

StardustyRose 13 May 2009 9:23 AM

JAJ

Congress may have no buiseness in changing the laws of racing but they have the POWER.  That is all they need. :)

StardustyRose 13 May 2009 9:25 AM

Curlin fan, your horse got dusted on grass , pro ride and in the Belmont by a Filly and in my opinion shouldn't have won that second horse of the year.Great horses of the year like Kelso[5 time] won on all surfaces with heavy weights[won at 142] and if there had been better competition Curlin wouldn't have won a second horse title, he was very good but nowhere near best ever and  he never even carried over a 128 lbs. These are Barbaro and family fans they don't like what your saying, I know they don't like my prediction on today's race.

2 time valley player of the year 13 May 2009 9:29 AM

Sorry I missed all the posts on meeting at Delaware Park today! I would love to meet some people and enjoy the race together. The time 2:30 at window 8 or the paddock. Let me know...

Berner05 13 May 2009 10:07 AM

I will be in the paddock, I will have on an orange cap with a Bernese Mountain dog on it. See you all then.

Berner05 13 May 2009 10:12 AM

All THE FANS OF BARBARO NO MATTER WHAT ANYBODY SAYS.  WE IN OUR HEARTS KNOW SHO THE BEST HORSE IS.  BETWEEN BARBARO AND CURLIN. SO NO MATTER WHAT.  BARBARO WILL LIVE IN OUR HEARTS FOR EVER SO WHEN PEOPLE COME ON AND BAD MOUTH HIM IGNORE THEM.  IF CURLIN WAS SO GREAT WHY DID HE LOSE THE BREEDERS CUP REMEMBER????? THEY TALK ABOUT HIS BROTHERS THE BABY COLT.  WE KNOW WHO IS BETTER.  CURLIN DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO OUR HEARTS BECAUSE BARBARO AND HIS BREOTHERS ARE ALREADY THERE.

Jackie(Fan of Nicanor 13 May 2009 10:33 AM

Wow! Does this colt have 4 white feet? If legend holds, this is a very, very good sign. He sure is

frisky! Naturally, as we all do,

I wish him a good, long, healthy

life.

I do have to make one more comment:

I happen to think Curlin was a great horse, but this is a blog on

"Barbaro's brothers" and it seems to me that should be the subject. I have no idea why people go on blogs and discuss whatever they have on their minds, regardless of subject.

Barbara 13 May 2009 11:07 AM

In Reality: As Amanda pointed out in her comment on 13 May 8:25AM, the stewards handed down the ruling because he gave it to the horse in the DETENTION barn. The product itself has nothing in it that will test. Go to their website and check it out. This product has been around for many years and in fact I have used it years ago when my husband and I ran horses. We never had a bad test for it or any other over the counter products that are out there. Please do so reading up on this subject before you make statements like that.

Wanda 13 May 2009 11:10 AM

Barbara,

I think what you are seeing is the natural silvery color of legs on a newborn bay that will turn black when he gets a little older.  He looks like he might have a white sock on the right hind, but it is really hard to tell in the photos.

Four white feet is NOT considered a good sign according to folklore, but there have been quite a few who have proved that wrong.  The Minstrel is the horse that comes to mind.

JAJ 13 May 2009 12:31 PM

Jackie(Fan of Nicanor

Good comment!  :)  We GET IT.

StardustyRose 13 May 2009 1:13 PM

Barbara,

4 white feet is considered to be a flaw by many.  From olden times there were 2  (and more) "poems" about horse feet.

One:

One white foot, buy him.

Two white feet, try him.

Three white feet, be on the sly.

Four white feet, pass him by.

The other says just the opposite:

One white foot, keep him not a day,

Two white feet, send him far away,

Three white feet, sell him to a friend,

Four white feet, keep him to the end.

If you believe in this, fine, but the odds are still that the white footed one will not amount to anything, just as most of the 35,000 TBs foaled each year.

Back to Nicanor. If he doesn't beat all of the horses except Whistlejacket (the superior horse) Gretch and Roy should use him as a plow mule on their farm, or just a pasture ornament.  They put him in the easiest race they could find, hoping he could win.

In 2 hours we will know.

yawn 13 May 2009 1:38 PM

A prayer for Nicanor's performance today.

bengal bob 13 May 2009 3:06 PM

Nicanor is currently at 2/5 early in the betting, as much as I hope he wins I couldn't bet him at those odds.

Tony Cheval 13 May 2009 3:12 PM

Nicanor wins by about 10 lengths after being hung wide around the first turn battling for the lead. Well done.

Tony Cheval 13 May 2009 3:33 PM

YES !!  He broke his maiden by 10 lengths

joe 13 May 2009 3:34 PM

good job Nicanor, impressive win! good job... we hope we see you in Stake races like Belmont, :)

kalesa 13 May 2009 3:37 PM

NICKY WON BY 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEPEEE!!!!!

Windy City 13 May 2009 3:39 PM

Just watched Nicanor's race! He looked like Barbaro in his early starts! Didn't wait to hear the official margin of victory, but it was at least ten lengths. He looked like "a race horse"!

Karen in Texas 13 May 2009 3:41 PM

HE DID IT!  He's a maiden NO LONGER!  One-forty-six and one, by at least TEN lengths!  There was everything to like about that race--he was in command from the start and he took Rosie N. for a real nice ride. I think Nic is in his element on the grass, although I still think he'd do fine on dirt. But one thing we all know now--he's got it figured out!  Barbaro probably reared for joy!  I haven't yelled that loud since the '07 Belmont!  Wish I could have been there to see this in person.  Way to go Nicanor--and many, many more!

KMustang 13 May 2009 3:46 PM

Thanks Amanda for setting In Reality straight on the facts. It needed to be said.

Just wanted to let everyone know Rosie N. rode a winner for Mr Matz yesterday, so let's hope all goes well for our boy. Good racing luck Nicanor!

For some of you that claim one horse is greater than another, may I suggest The Top 100 Racehorses of the 20th century by the staff of the bloodhorse publications. You may not agree on their placings but you can get a great education on the Greatest of all time runners and maybe a little more incite into why most of the horses today don't belong in the same catagory. Curlin was a very good horse but he accomplishments pale in comparison to those listed like Kelso, Citation, Native Dancer, John Henry  or Native Diver. Look at Miesque, she's rated #82 and a repeat winner of the Breeders Cup. She won in Europe and she beat the best colts in a mile here. Her second Breeders Cup win was on a rain-soaked turf at Churchill Downs. She was truly great.

As far as Pharlap, he lost the  Melbourne Cup carring 150 lbs, giving the winner a 50lb advantage. That's a reason not to run your best, not because you don't like polytrack. He won that race the year before, carrying 138 lbs over the two-mile course. They said he was something out of "the equine world". We now know he was poisoned deliberately, due to the amount of arsenic in his system. Too much to have been accidential. 19-1-1 out of 21 races for the age of three alone, that's  better than a lifetime achievement for most horses. n'est-es pas?

In case we forget, Barbaro was unbeaten. He won on the turf, dirt and in the mud, that's what was so devastatingly unfair when we lost him. He never got the chance to show just how great he might have been. Losing a horse like Barbaro is beyond the grieving for a magnificent animal, it's the loss of what might have been that cheats everyone, even the history annals for future generations of racing fans. Charles Hatton wrote in the Daily Racing Form on the death of Native Dancer, some have said that "for the great, death dies".

Dona 13 May 2009 4:11 PM

What a gift this race was,a lock like you see once in a lifetime.Nicanor has made my prediction come true and a ton of dough feels so good.

The Phantom 13 May 2009 4:58 PM

We are all soo proud of Nicanor. He truly is a special horse, just like his big brother. He may not fill his shoes but he'll come close enough for me. I think he was whispering in his ear today, "Fly like the wind". Congratulations to MM, the Jackson's and all the prople who work with this special horse. Rosie, you're the best for keeping and guiding our special horse to the finish line safely. God Bless You All. You all deserve the best.

Lou in TX 13 May 2009 5:01 PM

Stardust: Thank you in re: my dog, he has been quite a winner in the circle but this has ended everything.  So many hours of training, events and blessings with him now this.....

Nicanor the great!!! what a victory for his owners and trainers, they must be overwhelmed with his sucess today.......proud am I for them!!!!!!I knew he would do it just should have bet more money...........Nic was so cool with his race today, way to go sweety.....

Ragsy 13 May 2009 6:27 PM

I watched Nicanor run on TV and I swear, not once did I see a whip used unless I missed it and as he won by more than 15 lengths I know his big brother Barbaro was watching over him and nickering "good job little brother".

BigMommaLovesHorses 13 May 2009 7:15 PM

Big Momma, she whipped him a couple or 3 times, I think just to keep him focused. He looked great out there! Very professional. Looks like he loves the grass! :)

Concerned Fan 13 May 2009 7:52 PM

what a beatiful, big baby boy.

horsefan4ever 14 May 2009 12:35 PM

I'm wrong about the whip, sorry.. there is something flipping up on the left side as he nears the finish, Rosie looks back and then there is something that flaps on the left side, it is either the reins or she is showing him the whip, I can't tell. But she never whips him, that I can see. I feel kind of dumb to have said it.

Concerned Fan 14 May 2009 9:38 PM

Concerned Fan, don't worry... I saw something flapping too but I watched the replay a few times as I taped it on HRTV. I made the comment that she used no whip as I thought it was amazing he ran so good with no pressure put on him with a whip. I was in shock she didn't have to use it and he just ran like he was out for a fun run. He was amazing!!!!

BigMommaLovesHorses 15 May 2009 3:53 PM

Nonsense: You're in the wrong blog! Go to Curlin's and stay out of Barbaro's!!Why are you posting in Barbaro's brother's blog? This new baby looks exactly like Barbaro and will be the next Triple Crown Winner!!
