Like all of us, Roy and Gretchen Jackson have been eagerly awaiting the career debut of Lentenor, and now that Barbaro's brother is ready to make his first start at Keeneland on Saturday, Oct. 31, they will probably miss it.
The Jacksons probably won't be there when Lentenor goes to post under Julien Leparoux in the 5th race, a $50,000 maiden special weight at seven furlongs. There are 11 other 2-year-olds entered in the race.
Roy Jackson said Lentenor has been ready to go for weeks and that as many as four other races they were considering for him on the East Coast did not work out. So now he's at Keeneland. He's sure to draw a lot of attention and betting money, considering the high level of interest in everything that happens with the Barbaro family.
Speaking of the rest of the family, Roy said that Nicanor, the other full brother (by Dynaformer-La Ville Rouge), probably won't run again until early next year, on turf at Gulfstream Park. Nicanor was scratched out of the Virginia Derby (gr. IIT) due to a bone bruise and has not raced since.
"He's doing fine. He's galloping. But with a bone bruise, you have to be careful with it. He's grown a lot. So maybe this was for the best. He's really matured."
Now, we just have to wait and see if Lentenor joins his brothers as a winner.
