La Ville Rouge, the dam of ill-fated Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, has been checked in foal at the 62-day stage of her pregnancy for 2009 and is believed to be carrying a filly.

Sent off as the 2-5 favorite, Nicanor ran off with the field Wednesday to post his second consecutive win and remain undefeated on grass with an impressive victory at Delaware Park.

On May 5, I was able to visit with La Ville Rouge and her new foal at Mill Ridge Farm near Lexington. Pictures included. Also, brief updates on Nicanor and Lentenor.

Several readers have asked if something is wrong with Nicanor because he has not had an official work since July 11. However, he is perfectly fine, and is simply going through a growth spurt.
