Trainer Michael Matz has told the New York Times that Lentenor is "good enough" to compete in the Kentucky Derby, the race won by his brother Barbaro in 2006, but that "he'll tell us from race to race where he's going to go."

Three years ago today was one of the saddest in recent memory for a lot of Thoroughbred racing fans. It was on that day that Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro lost his courageous battle for life. But his legacy lives on.

La Ville Rouge, the dam of Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro and whose 3-year-old Lentenor broke his maiden impressively Wednesday, aborted her 2010 foal, according to an announcement from Mill Ridge Farm, where the mare is boarded.

The winning tradition of the Barbaro family continued Jan. 20 when Lentenor, the 3-year-old son of Dynaformer--La Ville Rouge, romped by daylight in a 1 1/16 two-turn turf race at Gulfstream Park.

Roy and Gretchen Jackson, who raced Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro and are continuing that horse’s legacy with his full siblings at the track, were encouraged by the developments over the last year and are looking forward to 2010.

If his progress so far is any indication, Lentenor should graduate into the winner's ranks with his next start after finishing second in his second start in Aqueduct's third race Saturday.

As most of you know, Lentenor was cross-entered for Saturday in races at Churchill Downs and Aqueduct, but will definitely run in the third at Aqueduct.

Like all of us, Roy and Gretchen Jackson have been eagerly awaiting the career debut of Lentenor, and now that Barbaro's brother is ready to make his first start at Keeneland on Saturday, Oct. 31, they will probably miss it.

October 4 marks the anniversary of Barbaro winning his career debut at Delaware Park in 2005.

Touching base with Roy Jackson this afternoon, he said things are going well for Barbaro's full siblings - Lentenor, Nicanor, and the colt foaled this year, as well as with dam La Ville Rouge.
