Congratulations to our Lentenor. He and Julien did very well considering they got caught in the traffic jam. Maybe a post position in the middle rather than the ends may help, that way as soon as the gates open they rocket to the front of the pack. Lentenor showed a very strong finish as soon as he got out of that jam. The horse has a lot of stamina and is a strong finisher. All in all he did very well and is learning the ropes.

I think Mr. Matz wasn't looking for a win so much as a good first effort to see what Lentenor's style and capabilities are. So, he probably told the jockey not to push him, just to let him do his thing but keep him out of trouble. These debuts are probably as much for the trainers edification as they are for the horse.

All of the comments above are very interesting and informative and I am happy to read all of them. I think Lentenor did well for his first race, third is not bad. He learned a lot and will race better each race. He is beautiful and charming and most of all healthy after the race, which is the most inportant thing for all of us.

We all want him to win, I am sure.

He does look his mom quite a bit. Just like Barbaro did.

I just soak up the pictures-Keep them coming!!!

Good job Lentenor!!!

I was wondering if they might not rather put him on the grass next time out, because of how Nicanor disliked the surface. Barbaro had the grass before the dirt. What is everybody else's opinion?

Horse didn't show much and the rider didn't do much.Horse looks very skinny almost like a oversized pony, put him away for a few months to grow.Third is better then 4th but the jockey has to be aggressive not passive like the first race.

I checked back and found that Dynaformer took three tries to break maiden.

Saratoga 8/23/87 Race 2 Maiden Special Weight

Belmont Park 8/03/87 Race 4 Maiden Special Weight

Belmont Park 7/17/87 Race 5 Maiden Special Weight

And La Ville Rouge also took three tries to break maiden.

Belmont Park 10/09/98 Race 1 Maiden Special Weight

Saratoga 8/30/98 Race 2 Maiden Special Weight

Saratoga 8/16/98 Race 6 Maiden Special Weight

And maybe one of the experts can chime in, but it doesn't appear to be very easy to find just the right jockey for a horse's first race.

And since Sire and Dam of these Barbaro Brother's managed to eke out very nice careers and continue to do well for themselves, I still have faith in all of them. Didn't Headley Bell say that Dynaformer produces high quality foals with Carson City mares?

I read a historical chart on Barbaro's maiden. He apparently was hard to load, broke sharp to chase leader outside. Kind of interesting that the brothers like to take the lead early and go outside.

I need to clear somethng up. It has been said that Edgar Prado requested for me to make that video. This is not correct. I asked Edgar what his favorite song was and that I would make him a video to that song. It was ME that asked him. NOT him that asked me. He sent me the song after I offered to make him the video, he did not request for me to do it. Just wanted to clear this up. :) Here is the vid again. Remember I ASKED HIM what he liked. ;-)

Here are the comments from Sally, the mamger, at Fair Hill about Lentenor:

"For those of you who don’t know, Lentenor, Barbaro’s 2 year old full brother, ran very well to finish third at Keeneland on Saturday in his first race. He has already returned to Fair Hill and later this month will be leaving for Florida for what promises to be an exciting season."

Just wanted to share. It comes from someone who knows what's going on at Fair Hill. I imagine they will ship both Nicanor and Lentenor together to Fla. We already know Nicanor will race at Gulfstream next year.
