Has anyone heard of the following incident with Barbaro the morning of the Preakness? He was working out in the wee small hours of the morning and it was still dark out. The ticket takers were arriving (parking in the infield?) and one took a shortcut across the track as Barbaro was approaching with his exercise rider who had to pull him up abruptly in order to avoid the woman on the track. Anyone heard about this? I heard about it from someone who works for NBC Sports and they heard about it from someone else who works there who knows Michael Matz. Not sure how significant this is, but it caused a stir at the time, apparently.

surprised and delighted that Mr. Matz brought Nicanor out for us to see when we were there during the 2nd Annual Barbaro Celebration. Mr. Matz brought him out in the company of several other older horses to keep him calm and relaxed. Since he had been worked the day before, Peter Brett walked him around the track. It was so kind and grecious of Mr. Matz to do this for us, and being thrilled to see him, was and is an understatement. My prayers will be with him as he travels on his journey to the race track, or not.

We will love him and be proud of him no matter what he does. Lentenor is in our prayers also.

Nicanor is so gorgeous!

I see that he has some pink near his mouth as Barbaro did.

I hope he wins the Kentucky Derby of 2009.

Nicanor is sooo handsome! A little bit more white on the face, but he does look a great deal like his older brother. I have seen a couple of pictures of Lentenor. I keep thinking the three of them take after their mom more than their dad, in looks, anyway.

Just finished re-reading My Guy, as well. Thanks to all of Barbaro's family for their forbearance and generosity for letting us become part of this amazing journey.

Nicky seems to be coming along rapidly and well. Michael and Peter are nurturing him as they did Barbaro. They must detect talent and promise in this beautiful young colt. Well, whether or not that's true, we all love him anyway and it is a thrill to even get a glimpse of him.

And next year, it will be Lentenor's turn! Just reread Edgar's book and recognized many facts about Barbaro that are now true about Nicanor. So exciting!

I am so thrilled that, from the start, we have been allowed an ever widening "window" into the life of Barbaro's brother, Nicanor. It is not the norm that the public is granted so much insight into the life events of a yearling/two yr old. I am very impressed that the humans around Nicanor have recognized the tremendous love felt for Barbaro (and his family) and have not kept Nicanor secluded from us. Especially since his arrival at FH, I have felt very "in touch" with this young colt who we love so dearly. Thanks to all who have made this possible!

just a quick FYI. Barbaro was given the nickname Bobby because Peter's son (not Michael's) could not say Barbaro!

On one of the other boards, Slewreigns said he estimated Nicanor to be 16+ hands and about 1115 pounds. Perhaps we'll be able to get some more specific details soon. Regardless, he is developing nicely isn't he?
