Knowing that I tend to get caught up in the fun – family, friends and food – I like to take a few minutes before it all begins to express my gratitude too.

re: Giving Thanks

Convene: As an added comment to the wealthy owners: I, being an equine artist, have gladly donated my works to silent auctions on many occasions (to benefit the retirement organizations). This is never done because I can afford it (I'm a "starving artist"), but, because I have a love for the horses and a deep concern that their lives continue as the Good Lord intended, long after their retirement from racing. If I can spend countless hours of my time; overlook MY financial gain; and donate toward the horses well being then I of course find it disgusting that the wealthy (many are multi-millionaires) owners can not assume some responsibility and committment. My point...RICH BOYS..TAKE YOUR PART IN THIS!!!!!

Yes, claimers too. When it's people, it's called a pension and we all pay for our own throughout our working lives. Should it be any different for horses? A small percentage of winnings would be a drop in the ocean but maybe enough to fund their future years ...

Winners, losers, claimers, Grade I winners - no matter where you fit in the hierarchy, you are all winners.

I give thanks too for more than half a century of horse-heroes to cheer for and the good, healthy mind to remember all of them, for God's beautiful little green earth and the diversity of life that shares it with me, for a roof over my head and a door that locks and supper, no matter how humble, for health and strength and friendships; for too many people, those things are all just distant dreams.

To everyone who shares this love of horses and racing, I wish you a happy Thanksgiving. Remember - altho it's great to be first under the wire, finishing the race is what matters most of all.

I'm thankful that there are owners like Mike Repole coming up in the ranks. Racing needs passionate owners who are in it for the love and not the just the money.

I'm thankful that Jerry Moss married Anne. She treats Lady Z like a member of the family. As only a woman could.

I'm thankful for trainers like John Shirreffs who realize that the way to attract the ordinary Joe to the track is to make the horses more available to fans.

I will be forever grateful if one day we have a single horse racing body that will oversee the whole racing industry.

To the jockeys who love what they do and face death every day to do it I give thanks.

To the horses, thanks just doesn't seem enough for all the fun and excitement you give us all, every time you unleash your power.

Racing is not just about Zenyatta, Rachel, Blame etc. It's about all those who participate and those that enjoy. Here's to much more in the future.

They are usually the first to the barn in the morning and the last to go home and they have a 7 day work week and long days, especially race days. They know every inch of the horse. Grooms are like nurses at a hospital. The grooms are usually the first to tell the trainer when something is amiss with their horses. By far they spend the most time with the horses than anyone else in the barn. A good groom can even help improve a horse; John Henry's groom is a perfect example.

Every person in the barn is vital but the grooms are often the unsung heros.

Now that she's retiring, it's such a letdown. I don't think I've ever felt this way about a horse, ever! I've followed certain horses, but I feel like Zenyatta is family! Also, high up there on my horse racing list are riders. They are the best atheletes in the world, bar none! And, I'm thankful for Santa Anita race track, the most beautiful place to go and take pictures of everything that makes up my favorite sport. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

There are very few owners that will race their female (filly or mare) against the best males in the Breeders Cup.

We won't see another female enter the Breeders Cup Classic for years. It's too damn hard to win it and owners know that.

Zenyatta - An equine phenom!
