I personally think the Tapeta surface is the best and the kindest. But I am biased as Michael Dickenson is an old friend!

Also I believe it is used in Dubai the City with the horse racing heart ruled by the WORLDS best rulers!

I thought you were being sarcastic thanking the response to "Strategic Thinking" as there were no comments here on bloodhorse.

I see that there is another blog at the NTRA web and you got 109 posts.

Still, since you asked for opinions, I believe your last paragraph should have been the first one. In the book by Carnegie you would find out why.

I don't talk about issues in racing in the USA because I've never been there, just read about it, I'm from Argentina and there are no synthetic surfaces here, for instance.

How about answer these questions a win a trip to attend the Breeders' Cup or the next Kentucky Derby?

Just today a farm owner's son told me what his father used to tell him a racing thoroughbred was like when he was a boy:

"A racing thoroughbred is like a crystal glass placed at the edge of a table at a kid's birthday party".

It seems our athletes are breaking down regardless the surface.

Mr. Waldrop, you have written two consecutive pieces about your concern and, as a leader at the NTRA that IS really something. It´s nice to know you are not just sitting on a big comfortable president and CEO chair, but you are caring, thinking, going places and talking to professionals yourself.

As regards getting feedback here, you said it: Money talks.

Like writer Dale Carnegie said: people don't care about what you want, the care about what they want.

As regards your last paragraph:

People attend the races out of passion, not out of will to help support the facility.

If you haven't read it, I recommend: How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie.

Yes da3hoss i agree all horses try to give us pleasure, so they deserve the best treatment possible!

If that means "kinder surfaces" and less or no medication then so be it! The horses and jockeys lay their lives on the line for our pleasure. Their safety and welfare must be paramount!

God bless all true horse and horse racing lovers as opposed to those who are only in it for the money or glory!

It's sad the "research" is studying the deaths of our equine friends...the lowliest claimer to the Queen runs because we ask and they deliver the best they can.

we find it interesting that the NTRA would take on the drug problems in horseracing but not the track surface fiasco. Politics you say? Certainly! The track surface issue strikes directly at the core constituency

of the NTRA. It will be difficult for them to dance around this issue when questioned by congress. Foresight, like common sense is hard to find and can't be injected with a needle. Hindsight reflects and measures judgment and in this case is hard to erase. What about it Alex?

You're right. Zenyatta is the dancing queen. I saw her run in the Milady and Vanity Handicaps and I can't say it enough. Zen is one gorgeous looking mare, all 17 hands of her. She really puts on quite a show before she runs.

As for Del Mar's track surface issue. I seriousley doubt her connections will run her if they believed her saftey was in jeopardy.

Please sort out Del Mar's surface. It is horrendous that all those horses died and jockeys were Injured!

I wonder what Del Mar's take is regarding six catastrophic breakdowns during a 10-day span that includes the first week of racing?

I hope Zenyatta's connections are concerned about the saftey of Del Mar's track surface.

I have never been racing in America but for me the safety of the track for the horse and jockey would be paramount!

As I am from England i don't like the use of medication unless it actually does help the horse!

i love the NTRA site too and TDN and Brisnet and the ATTHERACES site and Racing Post site and ...

It will be good for horse racing industry if all appropriate race tracks will be fully accredited by NTRA Safety Alliance. I just hope once they passed the Safety Alliance Accreditation, there will be a recurring inspections and reviews of the tracks to ensure that they are continuing to follow the safety guidelines, etc.

It will be beneficial for the tracks to participate in the data collection. Accurate data collection (e.g. number of injuries, fatality, etc.) will be crucial. This important information can be used to analyze problems and set guidelines (e.g. realistic fatality rate, etc.).
