Since Florida is my home state, I thought we might take a look back at some of the people and horses that begot the second

re: Sunshine Beginnings

Looked at the wonderful new photos on logging onto the Bloodhorse website, then decided to watch the U tube videos you so kindly provided for our enjoyment. They are all brilliant!!!! Liked the one about Dr Fager in retiremet best. Interesting to see that as in the case of Seattle Slew he continued to be ridden. Think that, that is a good idea if the Stallion will tolerate it!!!

More reminiscing! When in Newmarket in 1989 i spent many happy hours with stallions called Chief Singer and Salse. Interested to see that Midshipman is from Salse's family! Chief Singer was friendly but laid back. He would come over but not stay long. Salse on the other hand loved attention and stayed for as long as i did. He was so intelligent and could even count to 3 on request! I adored him!

God Bless

Best wishes

Thank you for the wonderful article. Being a native Floridian and having lived just north of Ocala it really was nice to learn this history of Fla breds.

Agree about the outside of a horse being good for the inside of a man or woman. I try and find a horse or pony to talk to if things are getting me down.

It was easier when The Cotswold Stud had yearlings in the fields at Lower Slaughter not far from where i live. I spent hours with them. One was Presenting who went on to be trained by John Gosden and run well in the Epsom Derby. He is now the top NH Sire in the UK and Denman last years ace Cheltenham Gold Cup winner is his son as was another Cheltenham Gold Cup winner called War of Attrition! Presenting was lovely as a yearling with good manners and a friendly nature! Made lots of other friends with yearlings and some went on to do quite well on the racetrack but not as well as Presenting.

Enough reminiscing. It's been years since there have been yearlings at Lower Slaughter but there are horses around in Bourton-on-the-Water to talk to!

It must have been great to see Precisionist. Horses can laugh/giggle. Dogs can too. I hate it when people make out that animals have no souls and are in some way to inferior to us. No way i think they are our superiors!!!! We cause pain; they do not generally. And most animals that are "bad" have become so because of being mistreated by humans!!!!

Heigh ho! i will be causing too much controversy here so had better stop!

God Bless

Best wishes
