I became a horse racing fan when I watched Barbaro win the Kentucky Derby in 2006 and have been a fan ever since.

I am turned off when I read about the neglect, abandonment, abuse, and the slaughtering of race horses.

Look what happened to Dyna King, who is a half-brother to Barbaro (same father - Dynaformer). He was found abandoned in Arizona.

It is a tragic story.

Thank you!

I'm a 15 year old and I've loved racing since the day I first went to Monmouth. From that day, 4 years ago, I've researched everything about horse racing, and am an avid fan. I try my best to educate my friends on this sport and have succeeded numerous times. Newspapers promote horse racing as an evil sport. Breakdowns, drugs etc. I find it sad that most Americans can't enjoy it like they once did. We have to promote horse racing to younger audiences, and focus more on the horses. That's how you're going to grow the fan base. I know that wagering is necessary, but when I read articles it's almost always about handicapping. We need to go back to our roots. When a good horse comes our way, we should do our best to promote him/her. A good example is Zenyatta. She may be retired, but through her, horse racing gained thousands of fans. A better may wager once and forget about the sport. However, a true fan follows the horses, trainers, and jockeys. Basically, educate the american population. Most don't even know horse racing exists.
