She has a nice catalogue page and her pedigree is full of excellent bloodlines. As always tho, it depends on what kind of money we are talking about here. Did Majestic Beauty sell at auction anywhere? Do we have any idea what kind of money she sold for? And why did the mare not get pregnant for '07? Probably not terribly important since she had a live foal in '08 and is back in foal, but its always good to ask those questions. I like Tale of the Cat but I wouldn't want to pay much more for the mare than what the in utero foal should bring. The City Zip or the Tale of the Cat really need to race well to make this mare's future foals profitable. As always, just one person's opinion....

Well, I'd sure take a chance on her. I see a lot more to like on this pedigree page than I ever did on the one for The Green Monkey, LOL.

There's enough decent black-type in the first couple of generations of Majestic Trail that she would likely make a very reputable member of a broodmare band, particularly if one were looking to breed to race for themselves.

I would have to voice similar concerns, and say that it's a bit too much... I'm probably one of the biggest advocates for crossing back to influential mares, but as gorgeous as Purim is, having both might be asking for trouble.

Ofelia - Of course there are exceptions. Hundreds of them. Actually, thousands of them. But statistically, we're going to do better with offspring of mares who were successful on the track, and all we can hope for is to tip the odds in our favor.

Nothng wrong with unraced mares. Somethingroyal was an indifferent racer and we all know who she produced. Genuine Risk, Lady Secret - all superior racehorses and they NEVER reproduced themselves or any foal that raced.

Bloodlines and family are more important.

I do not like the cross with Dynaformer as the family is to close and this cross has not produced any major winners.

She has wonderful bloodlines and would probably do well with Street Sense! Now there is match!

Despite her good pedigree, I'd be wary of Majestic Trail as well. As noted above, soundness is a concern.

Also, Majestic Trail's full sister, Glorious Girl,has raced six times. Granted, she was in the money five of those times, and earned just over $56,000, but she didn't earn any black type, so it would benefit anyone interested in Majestic Trail to research her sister's race record and also check to see if she's still racing or was retired due to injury.

I am going to the sales to buy this mare :) How could you not like her. I am not scared off by the 3x3 to Roberto, but temperment might be a little tough. I would like anthing from the A.P.Indy line for this mare. Crossing her with so Saddler's Wells blood would be interesting also. I would shy away from Storm Cat as he is a tough line and mixing him with another tough line might not be the best thing. You might take a shot with Nobiz Like Shobiz where Storm Cat is on the bottom line. Tiznow also should like this big stout bred mare. Good luck.

Two concerns about unraced mares:

1. Most horses are relatively unsuccessful at the track, regardless of how well bred they are...so you've got to start out with the assumption that unraces mares would likely have been average (not very successful).

2. As keenelandcat said, why didn't they race? If its a soundness issue that they might pass along, then you'd have to downgrade them even further.

Based on all that, I'd never get very excited about a broodmare who hadn't raced and didn't already have a VERY impressive history of successful offspring.

So I'm going to go with a definite 'thumbs down' on Majestic Trail.
