I guess I am more interested in the discussion of Hard Spun as a sire than the mare. I agree the potential is tremendous for him to outshine the others in the breeding shed and just hope his grittiness comes along in the package.

And since you mentioned the other 'big guns' - how about a very hypothetical discussion of - of the big 3 colts of last year - which one would you send Rags to Riches to? I know this is way off your original topic - but may be worth another discussion. You know that foal from her and one of those 3 would be a huge attraction to the more casual fan.

Scot's reply: Way back when, I had the opportunity to decide which hypothetical mating to use as an example report for the TrueNicks system. I decided on Street Sense - Rags to Riches (see it here). Like you, I thought this was a nice sentimental choice!

What do you like about this mare's catalog page?

She's proven as a runner and she has been given the opportunity with some very nice stallions.

How do you see Hard Spun's influence as a new sire?

With the book of mares that he had on the first year and considering that he was highly regarded as the one of the top sires to go to stud in 2007, I believe that his first couple crops could be exceptional. This may boost his chances early, as a son of Danzig.

Would you send her to Tale of the Cat (SRO) (sire of Lion Heart) with the idea that that sire obviously works with this mare's family bloodlines?

This may be a consideration, but I would do quite a bit more research prior to sending her to Tale of the Cat.

They may have gotten the best of him on the track, but I think, as a sire, Hard Spun is going to outshine them all. I just think he has all the ingredients to be the next big thing. As for French Satin, I would definitely send her to Smart Strike.

If I could own this mare! I would take her to Elusive Quality.

You have Mr. Prospector, Northern Dancer and Secretariat which Tale of the Cat has, but you get Northern Dancer again on the bottom plus back farther is Sir Gaylord who is from the same mare as Secretariat, I like that.

I love Hard Spun. As a race horse and think he might be a good stud. If they intend to sell...send her to Tale of the Cat. It is a very commercial plan, and a nice pedigree.
