in the october Fasig sale hip #772 is a Posse colt out of Deputy (a daughter of Sherriff's Deputy) and it brought $3500. Same family. I didn't look at the colt or check out his vet results so I have no idea if there was a problem.

Take Curlin out of the equation and you are looking at a very risky proposition.

I believe a person can walk away from this sale with a lot more quality than this mare. ??Will it take another 4 years to get her in foal again??

The only value is the Scat Daddy foal she's carrying. With her questionable produce record I'm not sure she's even worth the stud fee given she's 50/50 to carry it to term. Something less than the full value of the stud fee. She's probably a $5,000 mare if she's open. $15-$20K at best in foal.

you certainly have to wonder if this mare has a reproductive problem, or was poorly managed, or the owners just couldn't afford to breed her. If she wasn't bred for the last 2 years, then why does she have such a late cover date this year? It would help to know if she was bred multiple times this year or just once, late. and if they spent 30K on her, why not go to english channel??? It's possible with her poor repro record she wouldn't be accepted to english channel. Or possibly the scat daddy is a mare share.

she'd have to be a really nice looking mare and a low price for me to take the chance - 12 yo mare with no significance produce and questionable if she'll carry this foal to term.... at least, that's how i see it.

I love the scientific approach that breeding has taken on. I'm sure they can start college courses on this subject. Keep up the good work and thanks for the article.
