I haven't felt so energized by a horse since Secretariat and Ruffian.

He captured my attention and affection. Can anyone tell me if he is still in Australia or if he has come back to the U.S. ? Ofelia, when did you see him?

Saw HS at Darley and he could not be more handsome! I think he will be a better sire than he was a racehorse and that is quite a high standard.

HS is my absolute favorite. I watched him race and have visited him 3 times. I can say he loved to race, but he likes his new job even more!

Like many here, Hard Spun was my horse that year. Loved the way he ran and was wild about his pedigree too. I particularly like that wonderful "Darby Dan" female family leading back to Banquet Bell. His pedigree, athletic ability and the superb book of mares he received should all contribute greatly to his chances of being a truly good one at stud.

I loved Spunny as a racehorse and really wanted to see him hit the track again as a four year old. But I'm glad to see that he's going to try to make his mark in the breeding shed.

That's my boy!!! I saw Hard Spun in person 4 times last year, Belmont, Haskell, King's Bishop, and BC Classic. He's awesome, my all time 2nd favorite thoroughbred.

I should say "that's Mr. Porter's boy!!" I urged them to hold a Hard Spun Day at Del. Park before he went to Darley but it couldn't happen for whatever reason. I liked his pedigree from the beginning and I noticed the Danzig line in Big Brown too when BB emerged on the scene. Can't wait to see little Hard Spuns and wish Hard Spun, Mr. Porter, and Darley all the best. Hard Spun has heart and ability and it is wonderful to hear he is a breeding favorite! Go Hard Spun!!!!! I miss him!!!!!!

I am excited about the possibilities. Hard Spun was a gritty, get it done, racehorse. There is no doubt that he would've been Curlin's nemesis had he raced in 2008.

To submit my vote, we bred our mare, Laun Shaw, to him. We anxiously await the arrival of a filly in late January.

I agree with all of the above. I had stated earlier if I was ever to breed a mare it would be to Hard Spun..can't beat determination and a rock-hard stallion to boot who was as sound a dollar. Glad to see he is getting his dues.

fave horse of 07..i had to like him...pa bred..im not far from philly park where he won the nursery. he had guts and ran with determination. got the derby robbed from him. street sense had a dream trip that should have never happened...being 19th in the backstretch and then weaving his way through the rail by the turn. watch the arial view...evey horse just backs away from him an lets him through..he should pass on his stamina. he was his best at 9 fur. hell be a nice sire indeed. i saw him race numerous times throughout his career, and hes got spunk. its rightfullly so that he attracts numerous breeders.

I'm glad to hear Hard Spun is so popular with the breeders and deservingly so. He was my absolute favorite in 2007. I never got a chance to see him race in person but was fortunate enough to see and get a picture of his sire Danzig in 2003 at Claiborne Farm. Every time Spun raced he gave it his all he was just so determined. I still think that if Street Sense hadn't had such an easy trip on the rail Hard Spun would have won. May he live a long and prosperous life and he offspring maybe someday get the Derby win for him.

I loved Hard Spun in the Derby and in his three year old season, he was a durable runner that ran with the breeding he carried some incredible ancestry including poleynesian and St.Simon who had incredible endurance. He was a whisker away from greatness.. Perhaps his progeny and the broodmare crop will catapult him to a great sire and extend the Danzig line even further I sure hope so.

Do you know about Any Given Saturdays stats compared to Hard Spun?

Scot's reply: Darley supported Any Given Saturday's first season with a good book. His fee reduction ($40,000 to $30,000) should help maintain interest in his second season. 2008 stats were 144 mares bred, 2.69 CI, and 4.21 CPI.
