But the family is top-tier and she's already a stakes producer. Does Charedi's Gold stay in the broodmare band or is she a classic cull?

re: Is This a Broodmare? -- Stakes Producer in Michigan

If she's healthy, I think this is the kind of mare a small breeder should pounce on. With no Northern Dancer in her pedigree, I would go with Canadian Triple Crown winner Wando ($5.000) and bring her to Ontario to foal. Then the baby would be eligible for all the Ontario-bred races at Woodbine. Even the claiming purses there are pretty decent. You could make some good money from this mare's offspring. Now if I only had the money to do it...!

re: Is This a Broodmare? -- Stakes Producer in Michigan

I love this blog site I find it quite challenging , So when is the next subject coming up ???

Since that cross has already produced a Grade 1 winner (Mass Media) and i'm just a fan of Touch Gold's breeding.

2nd choice = a son of Danzig like (Military)

Since the cross of Danzig and a Forty Niner mare has already produced the likes of Distorted Humor.

It could possibly work in reverse like the old well known crosses of Northern Dancer and Buckpasser did either way. And also it would give the hypothetical foal a seldom seen 4x3 to Majestic Light along with a little influence to Ribot, who sired Tom Rolfe.

Scot's reply: Good work -- you found an Unbridled-line stud that brings in some interesting pedigree influences. I like the double of Charedi and I believe Tom Rolfe is a super addition to this pedigree. I personally would avoid the cross of Mr. Prospector in the sire line and broodmare sire line that a match with Unbridled Time would create -- but we're seeing lots more of it and my colleage Alan Porter has been more willing recently to concede that Mr. P. is an exception to the "rule" not to inbreed to the sire line.

re: Is This a Broodmare? -- Stakes Producer in Michigan

I did some research on Equineline and the hypothetical mating between Charedi's Gold and Unbridled Time would be interesting! In addition to your reasoning, I love offering Forty Niner mares more Ribot (particularly Tom Rolfe inbreeding). Also, Lloydminister (Cure The Blues-Charedi) was a truly lovely young horse-he stood out the day I saw him in the walking ring. Although she didn't black-type, Charedi was a very gifted filly. Majestic Light, unfortunately, has been a dud as a broodmare sire. Not worth breeding any mare unless one believes there's a reasonable chance at producing a stakes horse. This mare appears a bit unlikely, but for me it would waver one way or the other based on this mare's looks. The potential cross with Take Me Out does, however, whet the appetite.

As I reside in California my choice for a possible sire would be Ten Most Wanted. She is free of Northern Dancer blood and with her two crosses to Raise a Native we all know how well the two bloodlines work together. Ten Most Wanted also has Raise a Native on his dam's side through his broodmare sire Criminal Type a son of Alydar which gives a third dose of Raise a Native blood and a nice plus is that his dam's dam is a daughter of In Reality giving the resulting foal a second dose of that line. On the top he is a grandson of Deputy Minister who proving to be a maker of top sires through his sons and grandsons and with Ten Most Wanted having won several graded stakes among them the Travers and being classic-placed in the Belmont Stakes (ran second) and his fee at a nice price of $5,000 I think this would be a very good mating and could result in a very nice stakes horse.

re: Is This a Broodmare? -- Stakes Producer in Michigan

I like her - she has a proven track record of producing runners, she has some solid bloodlines and would likely do well if bred to a sire who would pull her class up and she would be good for at least a couple more seasons. It is good to give the mares a break to build their system back up, but I would wonder why she's had 2 years off. I like the choice you've made for a sire. His progeny have done very well and, with that stud fee, sounds like a good investment. So would you be selling the foal as a yearling, training & then selling or racing yourself? With the economy the way it is and with 'hot' bloodlines selling well, but everything else not, would you be able to make a profit on this mating?

Almost all her foals are winners with black type. Shes not that old and has been "rested" for some time, which is healthy for mares. A stallion with an established record of siring sound/durable runners for about 2-5K would suit her well.

Charide's Gold is a past proven producer of winner's.

Myself, I would breed to New York Based "Chief Seattle" $5,000. 2009 Stud Fee.

I would also foal in NYS and take advantage of the breeding program for NY Breds.

The unnamed foal would have a Dosage: 22 DI: 2.67 CD: 0.91

Roman Dosage Profile: 11-0-10-0-1

According to the Werk Nick Rating

there would be Quality Points: 20

with a Werk Quality Rating of Q 8

As I said, if Charide's Gold is healthy, and if there is a physical match with Chief Seattle, for a small initial investment you have a chance at a big horse.

He's brilliant and classic, and she's classic with professional...looks like a winning outcross to me and he seems to improve his mares quite a bit...better hurry with the booking, though...;-)
