GIven Honour And Glory would have a limited sample to australian lines it is hard to get a gauge on who might work against an H&G mare. AP Indy x Relaunch broodmare seemed to rate well and whilst Bernardini is unproven we thought he ticked the boxes for pedigree and performance. Unfortunately, so did Octagonal!! On his service fee; $70k USD v $38,500 AUD...might be as cheap as we get him down here if his first crop perform in the States.

I think if given better mares, he would surely sire some good stakes winners. He actually was bred to a mare by World Appeal, grandson of In Reality, to double and triple up on that Man'o War blood.

Relaunch was an excellent sire, and is a very good influence-all this without having had the best opportunity. As I recall, he returned from a bowed tendon to win a nice stakes in California...

But, it seems you've all somewhat missed the boat here, when discussing Relaunch and keying on his sire, In Reality. One can never know for certain, but I'd guess that Relaunch owes much of his success to his dam, Foggy Note. Some of you should check out her produce record, as well as her female offsprings', etc. You'll find-Glitterman, Rubiano, Tapit, etc., not to mention Relaunch himself. Quite a list of respectable sires, wouldn't you say? By the way, In Reality's other top U.S. siring son, Valid Appeal, is fairly well connected (female-wise) as well. Notice that his full-sister is Champion, Desert Vixen. It's only annecdotal, but what does this say for In Reality (and who to key on when considering line-breeding patterns)?

Relaunch is also known as a mud influence.

This is what I had to say about Closing Argument in my 2009 Guide to Freshmen sires at Iron Maidens Thoroughbreds (www.ironmaidensthoroughbreds.com):

“Both Successful Appeal and Mr. Greeley have produced winners over the turf and synthetic track, so there’s no reason to think Closing Argument won’t do the same. Successful Appeal also has a fantastic record as a sire of first out winners, which he could pass on to his son. Overall, Closing Argument’s offspring were well received at auction, selling for almost three times his stud fee and appeared to be good looking, athletic two year olds that threw down some wicked fractions at the OBS February Two Year Olds in Training sale over the Safetrack synthetic surface and worked comparably over dirt at the Fasig Tipton sale at Calder. Expect his babies to show speed from early summer on and most should enjoy longer distances.”

That's why I've followed Tiznow on and off the track & why I absolutely love Mr. Hot Stuff. He's going to decide he wants to win one day and then watch out!

I have looked for other male Man O'War lines continuing today. War Admiral had a grandson who stood in Japan from 1970-1991 named Hikaru Takai. But pedigree query only lists 3 offspring. There had to be more. It is interesting to think there was a male that closely related standing only that far back.

Vikki, you asked where the Relaunch-Slew stallions went? I'd say a good guess would be Japan. They really bought up a lot of the Slew stallions.

Scot's reply: Karen, The Jockey Club recognizes only four foals of Hikaru Takai, by far the best of which was the 1972 mare Begonia (JPN), whose first foal (Diana Tholon (JPN)) was a Japanese gr. I winner. I don't believe the male line continues -- the only male progeny listed was born in 1988 and doesn't have a produce record.

re: Thoroughbred Pedigree Review -- Relaunch Connections

Kent D. Thank goodness for In Reality --- his two sons Relaunch and Valid Appeal (especially Relaunch!) have, fortunately, kept the Fair Play-Man O' War sire line afloat. Tiznow, as well as being from the Fair Play sire line, is inbred to Northern Dancer, whose broodmare sire was Discovery, from the Fair Play-Display male tail line. You never know how or where the Fair Play stamina/speed combination (so evident in Man O' War) will turn up. Also --- Fair Play horses are usually better at 3 than at 2. --- Sorry to see that Pioneerof the Nile had to be retired. His sire, Empire Maker, is inbred to In Reality.

re: Thoroughbred Pedigree Review -- Relaunch Connections

Kent D.
I bought a Relaunch mare that was in foal, late in 2003.

May 2007, I was setting near the finish line on the First Saturday in May, watching her foal in the Derby.

You bet, I'm convinced that Relaunch was special. True, it seems that the progeny are best at distances less than a mile.

I am waiting to see a direct descendant of Relaunch, win the Derby. I don't believe this has happened yet, but with the kind of results Tiznow is showing up with, it could happen.

His first foals race this year and we'll see if he can give regional breeders a shot at a good horse.

I'll be curious about the speed factor from Relaunch, since I mistakenly thought our boy was getting it all from his mom, who was a 6-7 furlong whiz and seemed to pass her speed to her kids. I thought it was all Slew. Thanks for the great info in this blog!

re: Thoroughbred Pedigree Review -- Relaunch Connections

Wow doesnt anybody want to talk about Relaunch ? lol ! Anyways Ihave one more comment on this subject. Honour and Glory seemed to turn out to be a sprint/miler type sire .Im surprised that his son Put It Back has done so well ,though he seems to turn out the same kind of runners . I was doing some research and it seems to me that Relaunch seems to go well with Seattle Slew line mares ! Tiznow and Slew Gin Fizz seem to be good examples , What do you think ?
