Poll 3: What are the effects of racing 2-year-olds

Breeding for 2 year old runners since there is so much money in 2 year old races as opposed to races for older horses. Also known as breeding for precociousness.

I think racing two year olds is the wrong way to go when the majority of quality racers are retired at the end of a three year old campaign. With many of them truly not yet two when they start racing, that puts the breaking of these babies around a year old. Way too young, as they've not fully developed yet. Racing a two year old is in the best interest of the owner and trainer, not the horse.

I don't think we should run two year olds. They are not ready. I feel too many really good horses get broke down, before their time. People should stop being so greedy, and think of the horse first. That is not being done, now.

Just take a look at number of horses that have gotten injuries and are either out of Derby or Triple Crown. In my opinion, that just lessens the competition , and a horse of lesser quality qualifies, which may have an detrimental effect on racing fans or monies wagered.

My personal opinion is that 2 yr olds should not start till later in the year. Ther are still developing and growing in the spring.

I believe in training 2 yr olds and hopefully getting them a start or two towards the end of the year. I have not an advocate of early running of two yr olds. I don't believe they're mind is mature and certainly they're body isn't either.
