Great article.

Back in 1995 I bought my first broodmare (whirling sun) who was in foal to tunerup. After she dropped a colt, I bred her for $500.00 to Sir Leon in Florida. Both Sir Leon & Whirling Sun trace back to Domino. This mating resulted in my homebred Private Leon who started 18 times with 4 wins, 6, places, and 4 shows, and earnings of over $135,000 which includes breeder awards and being claimed for $40k at Gulfstream in Jan, 2000. I have been trying to find the offspring Whirling Free who is a half to Private Leon. Whirling Free was a result of the mating with Fly So Free/Whirling Sun.

I know it's late but I just found this, yeah!

Domino was the first thoroughbred I fell in love with. I read about him in the Thoroughbred Record way back in a series called the great ones. To me a youngster in the middle of the bluegrass and thoroughbreds, to me he was a wonder horse. Domino's great son Commando also sired a small amount of foals.

Amazing indeed the line is around at all!

OMG! I loved Spy Song and had no idea that his sireline was still around. Do you know he ran in the Domino Stakes? What's the name of the mare you're breeding to Aladdin Rib?

Scot replies: Neat coincidence about Spy Song being in the Domino Handicap! The mare I'm probably going to send to Alladin Rib this year is Salambria (Pentelicus - Stem, by Damascus). It goes against my usual pattern -- which is to inbreed to a good female family -- but Salambria is already heavily inbred to Aspidistra (family 1-r) so an outcross could be successful.
