Thanks for the improvement, but, why is it so difficult to find information about the most important aspect of breeding for any area, and that is the Dams? So, many state and/or international breeding programs have begun by standing some "Star Stud", but, forgetting to import quality mares. Kentucky breds were highly rated because of their mares. Florida has begun to catch up by improving the dam side.

I looked up Cherokee Run on the Stallion register- it showed he was standing at Darley-however, they don't list him as standing there.

Where is he?

Scot's reply: The SRO currently shows stallions standing for 2009; it is switched over in November each year to the following year's stallions. As for Cherokee Run: he's pensioned following the 2009 breeding season.

I'd like to see all stallions inbred to Northern Dancer, Mr. P, or Secretariat.

Line Inbreeding is also very helpful.

Being a novice pedigree enthusiast, i've known of and used the "Advance" seach page quite often.

My own "Wishlist" is similar to LanceS', but possibly taking it a step or 2 further.

Being able to key in the name Nasrullah thru the 4th or 5th Generation would be a nice thing.

But, it might also create a 1000 name list of Stallions.

So my Wish would be to be able to key in 2-3 or even 4 different names since we know there can be a second, third or 4th influence in pedigree Nicking.

Being able to do it that way would also help narrow the list of Stallions to possibly a Top 40 or so.

The more names to search for in the same pedigree "Should" equal a smaller list ???

My question though, along these same lines is...

Is there a program like what my Wishlist would provide, already out there somewhere in any other pedigree consulting Co. ???

Or would it be a first of it's kind ???

Scot's reply: There are a few systems -- G1 Goldmine comes to mind -- that fulfill at least part of your research "wish list." I personally like the ability on Starquine (which is just horse sales, not a pedigree database) of being able to search for an ancestor in specific locations within a pedigree. But no resource right now combines (1) the ability to identify stallions with specific pedigree influences (other than sire, dam, and damsire) and (2) the complete registry of Thoroughbreds. Thanks for your suggestions -- there are some technical hurdles but the basic ideas are smart and something that we should be working towards.

Now all they need to do is improve the advanced function. How about adding an outcross section? or a function that you add in your mares name and it lists stallions that do not inbreed through 5 cross? Or maybe even a system where you select certain criteria and structure a priority as to what is important first, then second - thus funneling the selection to a few stallions for your mare?

The advanced search is really valuable - I'm glad it's now on the front page. The only addition that would be nice is to be able to find all stallions with a given horse in the five cross pedigree. Right now one is limited to sire, broodmare sire, and sire's broodmare sire. So, for example, one can't find all stallions tracing to a given mare, or try to identify linebreeding or inbreeding to a given ancestor.
