Maybe you should start by improving the product. What is the point of having gambling and media distribution to all points of the globe if the product stinks. How many 5- and 6-horse fields do we have to endure? Which trainers are using steriods in those states that do not control them? Why doesn't the NTRA get its member tracks to adopt a uniform medication policy even if the different states won't? The application of breakage exists today even though all payoff calculations are done by computers and the majority of bets are not settled in cash; but, by voucher or account. None of these fixes have anything to do with TVG, HRTV, RCS or any of the other hype-mongers that are basically covering up a lousy product.

TVG has the worst announcers of any sport on TV. I wish Directv had HRTV then I would never have to listen to those guys. I prefer to listen to the sound of the TV because it is 2008 not a 1932 silent movie. Hey TVG, do you really need the fake hoof sounds on the track? When I go to SA and stand about 25 yards from the track I can't even hear the hooves hitting the Pro-Ride surface. Who are you fooling? A 4 horse field would never sound like a 20 horse field. TVG is a joke and I am force to watch it with the sound off because horseracing is so unpopular that Directv will not get HRTV and yes I have called Directv numerous times to request they add it to their menu.

Sorry to Karen in Indianna. We are a small operation in North Carolina. There is no wagering or gambling in this state. We prefer TVG because they provide us the best insight into stallion & breeding information. More so than HRTV.

Would someone please just merge TVG and HRTV and be done with it. I am a DirecTV subscriber and nobody can adequately explain why Dish has both networks but only TVG is on DirecTV. I want to watch Churchill, Santa Anita and Gulfstream but they have not been made available to DirecTV.

Also, why are both networks so biased towards Cailfornia? Why don't we have an Eastern-based network that will actually focus on Eastern racing. I am sick and tired of heraing about Cali racing. I like TVG but they ignore Saratoga. For them not to even be at Saratoga for one day during the meeting should disqualify them from being called a racing network.

TVG does have the best production and TV talent in this space. But they desperately need to make a change in their existing model because they have a weak menu to offer from Nov to March. AQU is nice, but every other "main" track is the JV - from Turfway, Tampa (which is actually decent), etc.

HRTV, by sheer default, roars to the front of the line at that time of the year because they pick up HWood/Santa Anita, Gulfstream, Oaklawn, Fair Grounds, etc. They show the preponderance of quality 3 year prep races until April when TVG comes out of hibernation to show the Wood, Blue Grass, and Lexington.

Plus, I'm all for something radical to break the current horrendous model because it mistreats the most important element of this sport's success - the betting public. The treatment of their customer base is a case study for Biz Schools of what not to do...

Great idea! I do wish we could settle this and be able to count on signal. I would rather watch TVG than HRTV. I really miss the Derby Works show. I am not a gambler, but I love the insight.

was TVG the hub for Arc wagering? their posted prices showed that Soldier of Fortune finished third and It's Gino finished fourth. The tri was 329 and the super was 20,000. In fact, there was a dead heat for third place. Did those who had It's Gino in the 3rd slot on trifectas (most likely using the "ALL" key) get shafted here?

Sorry, Keenelandcat, I beg to differ. I very much enjoy the knowledge that the announcers on HRTV have about the horses, the trainers, the history. But then I don't gamble, I just like the horses. I also enjoy the programs like Inside Information that give more of a behind the scenes look at every aspect of horse racing. Isn't it a good thing to have a choice? Those who are more interested in gambling can go to TVG, those more interested in the sport can go to HRTV.

That's a great idea.Keeping TVG around would definitely be a plus for the sport of racing. HRTV pales in comparison. When Churchill switched all of their tracks to HRTV, it was a serious blow to fans who not only wagered, but were just fans of the sport. Hands down, TVG's anouncers are more informative and enjoyable than HRTV's. TVG does a better job nationally covering regional racing than HRTV. HRTV just can't escape the fact they are a Calfornia based racing product. I especially love it when TVG is at Keeneland in the spring. They know their stuff.

I play Lotto ($1.00) every week in hopes of winning enough money to buy more land and open a Thoroughbred Horse Rescue. It disturbs me how many horses are slaughtered every year.
