I don't like the female races on Friday, just because I think that's not really 'prime time' so to speak. I prefer the title 'Distaff' but know people don't get that. However, how many casual fans understand the difference between a filly and a mare, a colt and a horse or even a gelding, let alone a ridgling?

Rachel, as a matter of fact we refer to the f&m's in the barn as the girls and the colts, geldings and full horses and even a ridgling are 'the boys'. Haven't you ever petted your horse or dog and told them 'good girl or good boy' and for that fact haven't you told your kids "you're being such a good boy for Mommy'? Not that we can say that to the ornery boys too often. Once again the focus seems to be on finding fault with everything in the industry.

She has three Grade 1 wins at this distance, and the race should set up for her. Some of the others would prefer six to seven furlongs, and those like Dearest Trickski who like to be loose on the lead won't be on Saturday. Thanks for the stats--it's a really classy field with some terrific fillies and mares.

Of course, you are right, there is no downhill in this race. I have no excuse for that other than having the Filly and Mare Sprint on my mind, as well.

As for Magnificence, she just doesn't seem right to me. She never really came back like she was, imo. With the pace setup and her ability to keep coming it will keep her in my exotics, but, not on top. Not that you care, but, another opinion.

I apologize for the brain cramp on the hill.

The title was meant to be eye-catching and funny. The rest of the article I neither refer to them as Ladies or Women. However, renaming the Classic the Gentleman's Classic would be wrong because the race is NOT restricted to men. The argument that the F&M race on Friday and the Colts & horses race on Saturday is patently false. F&M on Friday, but Saturday is open company. Hopefully you'll read my other article written about Filly friday here at bloodhorse. Thanks for reading.

Three grade 1's means she fires on the big days.

My problem with her is I don't know if she is fast enough even with the speed setup in front of her. Her best two Beyers are 99 and both came on dirt ( 93 is her best Beyer on synthetic and it wasn't the Pro Ride ).

Six other runners in this race have bested 93 on synthetics ( Dearest Trickski, Indyanne, La Tee, Tiz Elemental, Tizzy's Tune and Ventura, albeit, none in a grade 1, as Intangaroo did, except Dearest Trickski ) and Magnificence has equaled the mark of 93 on synthetic, but, sports a 109 on dirt. 4 different horses from the aforementioned ( Dream Rush, Indian Blessing, Miraculous Miss and Zaftig all have crushed the 99 beyer that Intangaroo put up on dirt, in previous dirt races. I haven't even mentioned the two foreigners ( Lady Sprinter and Psalm ) who both show outstanding form. Some of these horses mentioned above do not show the good form of late of Intangaroo. Plus, as we all know, if the various speed figures were all you needed to get the winner we would all be rich.

I know the Beyers are only speed figures and their is plenty more too this game than that. I just found it odd as I was capping this race, that so many on their best days could stack up with Intangaroo.

As I said, I really like Intangaroo and I still think she has an excellent shot here. I just am a little concerned about what price she might bring. There are a few in here that stand to be much, much, longer and may have a shot as well....

Indian Blessing is going to be tough if she doesn't get caught up in pace, so you have too include her in exotics even at the short price ( at least underneath ). I still think Indyanne could be a play here. I know Ventura will be on most every ticket I have for this race.

Funny how you said you looked forward to this race the most, because I just got done saying that earlier to a friend. Speed, speed and more speed and some very good pressers and closers all going down the hill ( right, then left, then across the Pro Ride, then left again. You gotta love this race!
