I think Curlin is a horse for the decade. He is a horse whose races will be watched years from now, both wins and losses. HOWEVER, I don't believe he's a lock in the Breeders' Cup Classic, so instead of trying to come up with

re: What If There Was No Curlin?

It's quite obvious most of us don't watch too much Euro racing. I watch a bit of it.

No Curlin I would have to go with the Duke, and probably Go between, casino drive underneath.

The Duke because I think he will love the firmer faster surface. yes he has had a really long campaign but he is a quality horse. His Arc performance You could through out since he was not really being pointed up to that race and also because he didn't like the soft going. I think he is the best horse in Europe, He is a fighter and will battle any horse to the line.

Go between gets the second nod , because since the departure of heat seeker (my original favorite) he has bean the monster on the synthetic and has to be at least top 3.

Casino drive would be my pick for third because he is just so talented, and i see the race setting up much to his liking. I have him on the lead coming into the final turn and it would take some running for them to get by him.

If there was no curlin, but there is

All this said. I think Curlin is the man in this race regardless of the pace and am looking forward to seeing what he does.

What's wrong with getting beat by a filly? She was amazing, regardless of her gender.

IF Curlin wasn't in the race, I think I would say Go Between.

I don't want to!

GO CURLIN!!!!!!

The lone horse not in that group, Raven's Pass, got beat up by the top Europeans earlier in the year! So to make it short...I'm dropping all the Europeans! Not enough rest, they have never run on the surface, and I seriously doubt their overall talent!

I am surprised that you have basically left out the horses with proven records on Synthetic! Colonel John is certainly a better 3 year old than Smooth Air but I don't like that he trained up until the race. His first start after the Derby proved to me he needs a race to get into top form! Go Between is much the choice over Tiago. Yes he got a bad draw, but I still like his chances.

I find it funny that the type of race you discribed is the exact race that Casino Drive tends to run...staying near the pack and then having enough left to pull away. I don't think he is the one though.

If there was no Curlin, I would go with Go Between and box the exacta with Casino Drive and Colonel John. I would also throw Tiago into the mix for the Trifecta.

But reality says that Curlin is the horse to beat.
