What a nice post! I own two ex racers and adore them both. What was great about your post is that your horses retirement was as important to you as everything else while the horse was in your care. Kudos to you and may other owners learn from you.

And a message to owners, those of us who have OTTB's, enjoy keeping up with you and your other horses. By handling retirement the right way, you can create new racing fans. Something the sport needs badly.

Sam is a happy and healthy horse! He is loving living a casual life. He seems to really love rolling in the mud! He has found a friend in one of the broodmares too. He has good taste! Many kudos to the Star of the North partnership!!! They are an example of great ownership. I am glad to be involved with them. Thanks David.

If all owners cared as much as you, we wouldn't NEED Old Friends, we'd just enjoy them.

You remind me of the stable I first worked for...the horse came first, always. Each of their horses was carefully campaigned, rested as needed and retired/placed.
