Most notably, June 2007, I wrote a post called How To Save Horse Racing , and in February 2007 I wrote a piece called Thoughts On Track Takeout . In the last year, horse racing has

re: Horse Racing Must Drop Takeouts Substantially

Hi!

I have to live through the future closure of Hollywood Park. I believe the track needs to be saved because it is a part of Los Angeles history. I guess the city wants to build more stop and robs, condos and whatever the politicans feel like they can steal money out of the public.

Politicans had years to develope a great revenue generating machine with the help of the track, casino, and the forum. They couldn't do it because many of the politicians are incapable of evaluating the big picture. What really gets me is if the city couldn't generate enough revenue with that potential what makes the politicians think things will get better without the track.

My main concern about the downfall of horseracing is the status of all the horses. How in the world can all these horses end up in good homes or a change in their careers and not destroyed?

I continue to say my prayers and hope for the best!

Takeout has to be reduced substantially so your players have a fighting chance.

Another concern is the shrinking horse population and grim economics faced by owners.

Lots of problems facing a sport fewer and fewer of us love. I'm in my late 50's. I hope the sport can stay viable through my retirement years but I have my doubts. We'll probably end up with just a handful of tracks in another decade.
