Please stop marketing the "one of the few good guys saved a racehorse from slaughter" line. Sure that's great news, but if you read it over and over it translates into horse racing people are sending their horses to slaughter. It does not matter where you stand on the issue- this is not good marketing for Bloodhorse and racing. I could fill the pages of Bloodhorse with good stories about racing, exciting horses, accomplishments and incredible horsemen. If I can do that so can others- stop the playing into the hands of those who spread the message widely that "Racing IS Slaughter". It does not take 100 days to do this, it takes one day to wake up and stop the stupidity.

I wish I had a loud bullhorn to scream from the rooftops, but really it's not necessary. As long as Alex likes the idea that's all that matters right!

Gulfstream is now a mall that happens to have racing part of the year. Put another way, it has lost all the former charm of earlier days...I was at that track often & 1 visit to the "new & improved" Gulfstream was enough for me....Many people I know feel the same way.

On another note I see a price distortion between racing & breeding revenue. The lofty breeding income is not justified by earnings on the track. Some sanity must enter the equation on the breeding end where the purchase price of a horse must have a reasonable hope of recoupement from race earnings.The breeding game chases its tail....

I like the way you think. 100 days may be too short a period to accomplish meaningful change either in Washington, D.C. or in the horse industry but the NTRA Safety & Integrity Alliance should be well underway in the next 100 days. The Alliance will be the right forum in which to tackle many of the issues you address in your post. We will try to give you and the industry an update on our 2009 plans before the holidays.
